Thanks guys. Ill be going out with somebody who knows the area a lot. I just want to be sure ill have the right gears before making the 5hr drive, without having to bring everything (will be carpooling with a few others). I'm thinking of a ML rod, spinning setup with 8lb mono line. Think that'll do? Or should I go braid? I guess I'll bring a few small cranks, few senkos, few small spinners, jigs. Any comments?

Heading up to the French River for the first time in a few weeks for some walleye action. I've never targeted walleyes before so not sure what to use. Any tips on equipment, techniques, and lures? I'm thinking of bringing my 6' ML stcroix. Any tips will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Well I took out the eggs from my fridge just now and noticed the eggs now have a white center (most, not all) can anybody explain this to me? Thanks!

I want to rinse the skeins... but don't have access to any distilled water right now. What are the effects of using filtered tap water or bottled water?

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll take it off him and defrost them. If it smells funky I'll toss them. If they seem okay I'll try to cure them..

Hey, I have a question regarding some old skein. I have a friend who went salmon fishing for the first time back in early September. He took home a hen since it was his first and was really excited to cure the roe and fish the runs. Long story short, he's never been out since. I asked him if he even cured the roe and he said no. If the skeins were frozen since that day do you think it'll still be good to use? If it is I might take it out of his freezer and cure it to use. Don't want to waste it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi all, Ive been wondering for while... For those who fishes both off the pier and in the rivers for salmon/steelhead, when would you guys go pier fishing and when would you guys do river fishing? Both seems productive for the sport of fishing in the fall. Regards, D

Lol well hopefully that's the case anyways, now that I found the small ones hopefully I'll be able to find the bigger ones. New to fly fishing lol, any tips will much much appreciated (:

Haha agree, although I'm sure nobody intentionally targets smolts.

Awesome! Used barbless hook, and fish never left water until he hopped right when I was talking the picture. Haha, had a great time

Thanks for the input. I did that today, went all the way up two creeks. The map shows the creek continues but when I got there it was dried up haha. Better luck next time I guess!

Thanks all for the input! I wasn't really expecting anybody to answer full out where I can catch them, my main question was whether or not the east tribs are too warm for resident trouts. Just thought itd be worth a shot to throw the last part in there. Haha And I agree, respect the fisheries. I've only practiced catch and release for salmon/steelheads and plan to do the same for residents. I think you all indirectly answered my main question already so thanks! (:

Hi all, Went fly fishing for resident trout for the first time yesterday on the Grand. Had an awesome time! Had around 6-8 browns. Nothing big, but it's a start. The biggest from yesterday was around 14"?? Anyways, Had some time to go out today.. Thought I'd practice what I learned on Saturday at the Grand but didn't want to go too far. I dropped by two east tribs but no action. Are the east tribs too warm to hold any resident trouts? I followed one of the creeks all the way up today, and the creek just disappears. Any tips (either here or PM) on trout streams east of Scarborough close to home will be much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks, I looked at that atlas but not really sure how it works. If I zoom in around the southern ontario area, a huge chunk of it is in grey (private area). This includes all the kawartha lakes and lake ontario east tributaries. Since I've fished those areas before without issue of trespassing, I'm not sure how I will know which sections of a stream/river is considered private where I will have an issue if I step into it.. Any ideas?

Hi guys, Whats the difference between crown land, conservation area, and provincial parks? How do I know if a section of the stream/creek/river is on private or public land? I plan to do some exploring this weekend and don't want to get in trouble for trespassing... Is there an easy way to determine from looking on google map which parts are private and which are public? Also, is fishing allowed in all conservation areas? I'm looking at TRCA under fishing and I only see three conservation areas listed. Can I fish in any conservation areas, or just the specified ones? I contacted TRCA today regarding this and they didn't really give me an answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to explore the many streams/creeks/rivers around me but I'm afriad of trespassing without knowing. Thank you in advance. Regards, Dan

Hi all, I've decided that I want to try exploring new waters further up north, but I have no idea what to look for. For example, I'm looking on google maps and see a million small lakes by muskoka, but are all these fishable? Do all these little lakes have streams that water can flow in and out of? If a lake has no in-flow or out-flow stream into a larger body of water, will it still contain fish? Or will it be dead water? And about dams. If a river has a dam, with no fish ladder. Will there still be fish beyond the dam? I've fished for many species of fish before and really want to try for brook trouts up north, which is why I'm looking to explore new waters. I love the feeling of being out on a lake or river/stream with nothing else around you. Just you, your fishing gears, and the beautiful environment. Any input will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks. Regards, Dan
