  1. I find that regular garden worms are much tougher than night crawlers and so less likely to come off the hook. I've never caught a bow on worms but caught lots of small brook trout on them when I was a kid.
  2. JB---they are starting to run right now in Huron rivers. Fishing conds will vary with rainfall and, acording to some, onshore winds.
  3. I try not to hi-jack threads on here but this one seems pretty well played out. So at the risk to sending this thread in a very different direction, can I ask you what you mean by a 'light cure"---borax, salt, or bought mixture of some sort? It's a bit odd that the eggs turn white faster in cold water. Normally things (e.g roe 'juice'') dissolve faster in warmer water.
  4. Mike, I know you catch lots of bows so was wondering---do you chnge so often because you are getting lots of hits, or because the roe is 'milking out'.? If milking out I assume you're using unured eggs.
  5. Thx. I guess I was watching the wrong guys.! I've seen them being used on the Bighead--I shall give them a try. Re "flossing": seems to be more or less a GTA thing. I understand that the fish really congregate in shallow pools there. It's hard to imagine folks flossing on the lower Notty where I usually fish. No shallow pools, murky water.
  6. Most everybody on the lower section of the Notty seem to use just roe bags w/o beads, although some do use worms..
  7. Oh, no!! We have it bad enough here in Canada but we sure as hell don't want to emulate the American system. . From the frying pan into the fire!!!
  8. Ah to be 14 again and have the 'gear' I had then!!
  9. Do they have to dig up your lawn? What are the permits for?
  10. We were in Jasper 5 years ago and there was a group of 6 or that had stopped traffic on the TCH. Mule deeer were everywhere. Also saw 2 caribou while driving.
  11. Gettin' my ice auger sharpened up for sure!!! Need to look for a pop-up ice hut though. If you live in Canada you might as well get used to winter!!LOL
  12. Ricks Happy Hooka in C'wood and Wasaga sold bulk roe last year. Not sure about this year.
  13. The MNR guy came by on Sat checking licences and I asked him that exact question. He said it was illegal to 'strip' or 'milk' the roe from a fish.
  14. I'd keep it for the next time I saw fish in a barrel.
  15. as someone said in a different context--"A victory of hope over experience" LOL
  16. No kiddin'. Just a bunch of guys horsing around and bullshttin', as I see it. Crappin' on the Leafs is close to a national sport. Time for GTA folks to smarten up and join the chorus!! Maybe then they'll get a competitive team.
  17. Fair point. But if the pic is more than a few days old, which it often is, then it's a bit late to rush out in hopes of 'hitting a run".
  18. Eggzakly, FF! Naming a river will bring new people to the river, showing backgrounds won't.
