  1. Hi Eddie, I first took my grandson fishing when he was 2 years old, then unfortunately they moved away, he is now 11 and I certainly have missed out on a lot of years with him. Now we have moved here to Canada and sure as hell I mean to play catch up. Can't wait for the next session, you never know I might even give him a run for his money....
  2. Hey Radar, It was an awesome day and great to see my grandson catch fish however big or small, it always gives me so much pleasure to see him catch stuff and I can tell you he was pretty chuffed.... The blurred out face was actually at the request of the Carp...., he was obviously very embarrassed at getting caught....lol.....
  3. I took my Grandson fishing for the first time in years and he certainly showed me how to do it with a little help......The first Carp weighed in at a little over 5 lbs and the second at 17 lbs, both were caught on two grains of coloured maize in 3ft of water. I managed one Large Mouth Bass that went about 1 lb...????
  4. Hi Everyone, I've been invited up to Murphys Point near Perth which I think is on the Lake Rideau, Hoggs Lake complex. Has anyone fished here and could give me some information on species and tactics. The drive up is about 4 and a half hours from where I live so I really want to make it worth the journey. Cheers and thanks for any help.
  5. I hope the weather improves and you can get out very soon.....
  6. Hey Terry, Work stops me getting out all this weekend as well I'm afraid but I'm going next weekend for sure, not sure where to go and with out a boat venues are limited.
  7. Me Neither, itching to get out there...
  8. Hi Everyone, Just a quick note to wish you all every success in the coming Bass season. Tight lines.... Colin.
  9. Hi ehg, Many thanks for the info, I heard it gets kinda crowded early in the year for Steelhead and later in the year as well so getting there very early in the morning is a must. I'll certainly give it a go for the Pike, Bass and Carp during the summer months and let OFC know how I get on in the near future. Thanks again. Colin.
  10. Hi S, Thanks for the info, I did wonder if I was in the right place as it was in the Wilmot nature reserve but I found some photo's and it looked as though people were fishing from there. Will give it a serious go over the next few weeeks. Colin.
  11. Hey Camillj, That's cool, thanks for the info and will certainly give it a serious go. Colin.
  12. Hi, I use the Shimano Crucial and find it an excellent rod, its well balanced and a pleasure to use, coupled with the Shimano warranty I think you'll find it hard to beat.
  13. Yes I was there today and it is very deep and slow running, there is also some nice looking water to the right of the opening which is surrounded by reed beds, looks very good for Bass and you could get to them in a small inflatable boat.
  14. Ok cool, I'll certainly give it a go, thanks for the help.
  15. Hi, Thanks for the reply, yes the Bass season opens 4th Sat in June I believe and it was more the Bass I was going to target. I was told they also catch Steelhead from there early in the year on float tactics fishing with roe bags..?? Colin.
  16. Hi Everyone, I took a drive to Wilmot Creek today after someone said it was good to fish, I found the creek by the Hatchery site and walked along it both ways but it was very shallow, 6 inches to a foot in places and no signs of any fish. I then took a drive in to the nature reserve and walked along the path towards Lake Ontario and came out where the lake enters the creek, there were lots of reeds and the river was very deep and looked very nice and fishy. Can anyone tell me if this is where your allowed to fish or was I in the wrong place/area, I also drove down Mill St South and took a look around the marina and the lighthouse. Thanks. Colin.
  17. Hi Joey and Paul, Congrats on the PB and also on a great days fishing. Colin.
  18. Hi N.A.W I'm glad to, it was a long time coming but was very enjoyable. My pleasure in sharing and hope there will be many more to come as well. Colin.
  19. Hi Naffeal, Welcome to OFC I was a newbie a short time ago and can certainly vouch for the guys on this site, the people I have had contact with have been genuine and very helpful on all aspects of the sport. Tight lines. Colin.
  20. Hi Art, Nah I'll stick with Catfish thanks........ and it was nice to catch a few fish. Colin.
  21. Hi Roy, Many thanks for the kind words and for the fish recognition, at least I know what they are now and they remind me of a fish I used to catch in Europe which was called Barbel. Tight lines. Colin.
  22. Hi Everyone, I returned to Earle Rowe over the weekend and fished the river at the back of the camping site, this was my 6th fishing trip since moving to Ontario, the first 5 being fishless. I found a nice spot where the river was running hard on the far bank but there was a nice little bay and slower running water on the near bank. On Saturday afternoon I spent about 3 hours and float fished hard on the bottom, I had 3 carp between 8 and 14 lbs and a couple of fish which I'm not sure what they are but they had the same coloring as Carp but where smaller, thinner with a funny shaped head and an underslung mouth, maybe someone can tell me what they are. On Sunday morning I returned to the same spot for about 4 hours and caught 4 carp between 6 and 9 lbs. So all in all a very successful trip over a great weekend, none of the fish were monsters but all of the fish were very welcome, it felt so good to feel a bend in my rod again. Colin.
  23. Hi Danbob, If your thinking of selling your unit I'm looking to buy a second hand one and would appreciate the heads up. Cheers. Colin.
  24. Hi Bucktail, Thanks for the info, and a 50 inch Pike is a big lump, my biggest Pike so far is 31 lbs and nowhere near that long. Cheers Colin.
