  1. Hello All,

Well for years my Uncle has been trying to get me out on his annual fishing trip to Lady Ev. He goes in mid-late September and stays at Mitchells camp. So I have done a little research but am unable to find the location of the camp they don't have a website , short of calling I thought I would ask the board if they knows its approximate location, I know its a little hike from mowats landing. Is it close to red pine lodge or garden island? Looking to get into some smallies and search for any brookies in local streams or lakes. If anybody has any helpful info that they would be kind enough to share, feel free to PM me, and of course mums the word. Thanks

Mitchell's Camp is located on an island in the NE portion of Lady Evelyn Lake, between Ellen Island Camp and Red Pine Wilderness lodge. These coordinates will give you a rough location on Google maps.

    47.391355, -80.065136

I've stayed at Mitchell's camp 3 times since 2008. As compared to the other big 4 lodges (I believe Red Pine is not operating again this year) Mitchell's is a more rustic experience; specializing in their "housekeeping" plans. Personally, I love it there. No website, just a phone number. Carolyn is very nice and helpful on the phone. It's a beautiful lake with amazing scenery. We usually target walleye, and it's been amazing some years and slow in other years. Weather seems to play a big factor when you're up there. I'll be going up mid June with my wife. There are others on this board that may be able to add more information.

Edited to show rough GPS coordinates - original map link didn't work correctly.

  2. It's sad. I learned to fish on Eugenia Lake.

My grandparents have had a small cottage on the side near the causeway since before I was born, and eventually retired there in 2000. I have dozens of childhood fishing pictures which were taken on this very lake, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Of course as kids, we were happy to catch anything. Hours and hours fishing off the dock catching perch, sunfish and rock bass... Then as we got older we would venture out further in the canoe. I also have memories of BIG bass everywhere - now some of my favourite areas are completely choked out with dense weeds.

The "cottages" that have sprung up around the lake are astounding. What was once a quiet little lake with pontoon boats at almost every dock is now a whirlwind of wakeboard/ski boats and sea-doos...

  3. i use an old eagle 320 up front.. you can get a bracket that you attach a regular transducer to which has a band that wraps around the trolling motor.

or you can go low-tech (like me) and just use regular ole elec. tape and a small piece of wood wedged between the ducer and motor to hold it at the right angle, then make a few wraps with the tape around the ducer/wood combo and motor.

    X2 on the low-tech.

To save some money on a fancy trolling motor transducer mount, I just "modified" a regular transducer mount and attached it to the trolling motor with a large stainless hose clamp. Works great and is very strong.

  4. Great new prop is on order, lol. Guess ill keep the old one around as a spare.

If you haven't done so already, I would suggest ordering a basic map of the lake to get your bearings. I have one from http://www.adventurefishingmaps.on.ca/psd1.htm and it's rather helpful to get a general idea of the lake. These maps are not intended to be used for navigation, but I usually order one for any new lake I'm visiting - just to get the lay of the land. These maps also include fish species found in the lake and a general idea on where to find them. :canadian:

  5. We've camped at Mikisew PP twice over the last 3 years and still love it there.

We usually did well for smallmouth bass fishing topwaters in the evenings, but there's pike in there too.

The lake is VERY rocky, with your typical weedy and sandy bays. They mark the main channel with buoys, but there is plenty of rocks, points and shoals throughout the lake. There's a great little store at the narrows with very friendly people and a sandy beach for swimming.

Do some exploring and you'll find fish in the usual spots. Especially smallies!

Hopefully others will chime in too.

    Have fun and enjoy!

  6. For people that don't haul around 10 rods with them I always suggest spooling with 10lb braid. Here's why, you can fish is as is and it is great for spinnerbaits, etc. around cover OR throw on a 6lb length of fluoro and finesse clear water walleye or smallies. Especially because it's a one spool reel out of the box.

Good advice, as this would add a lot of flexibility - which is what I'm hoping for at this time.

    Thank-you.

  7. You should be able to buy a second one but it's not necessary.

That outfit it fine for what you discribed. The only issue would be if the bass are in cover. One thing you might be concerned about is that this might be the start of a serious tackle accumulation addiction that many of us are afflicted with. :thumbsup_anim:

No kidding! I can already foresee this happening in my near future.

I think I'll end up spooling it with the 8lb Trilene XL to get the feel of it and avoid the heavy cover for now - then upgrade to braid later.

Thank-you for all the replies, hope everyone can get out the water and on fish for this long weekend! :D

  8. If that reel came with 2 spools I'd have one of each. A braid, or superline, on one and the mono on the other. There is a bit of a learning curve with the non-mono type lines but it in the end it is worth it imo. And yes a floro or mono lead would be used.

The lead length, type and pound test can be adjusted to suit a particular situation and presentation.

Just one spool for the new 2500FE... I know. I was kinda disappointed when I opened the box.

  9. 6lb braid would work just fine.

I like/use 8/30 power Pro braid. Some claim it doesn't work on spinning reels very good, but I'm 3 years plus on my spinning unit with zero issues!Plus the added benefit of no memory is great.

Thanks guys, so that's 2 votes braid right away. I'd assume you'd run a flouro leader with that setup?

  10. Hi guys,

Finally bit the bullet and upgraded my spinning outfit! I ended up with a new Shimano Sahara 2500FE and a Shimano Clarus 6'-6" Medium Fast "Worm and Jig"

I'm a weekend mulit-species fisherman on a budget so I was looking for a quality "all-around" combo without breaking the bank. It seems as you reach the higher end of the gear lineup, the term "all around" starts to fade.... However, this is a HUGE upgrade for me!

I mainly plan to use this outfit for chasing bass with soft plastics and jigging for walleye, so I'm planning to keep the line fairly light for "finesse".

My thought is spooling with 8lb Trilene XL Mono.

I know the line debate has a lot to do with personal preference and type of presentation. I have a bad habit of running too heavy line for fear of breaking off, however I'm trying to concentrate of finesse and sensitivity.

I appreciate any opinions and advice.
