the 250 new jobs are most like low paying call centre type jobs. The MNR is not the only place to layoff/buyout expensive long term employees and replace them with low cost employees. Look at what some manufacturing corporations have done, the government is no different. It's all about the bottom line, management will always save their own ass first by cutting people under them...

Knock on wood I haven't had anything go missing in a while, but at our trailer park in the spring some punks broke into 44 trailers! The year before our brand new trailer was in the park less then 12 hours before someone tried to break into it... Still cost 1500 to get the door replace, but they never got in... I would love to catch one of these guys, but in reality you would most likely be charged with assault for pounding the crap out of some scumbag... It's happened before and I'm sure it will happen again.

yeah, both times I thought I was going to lose the whole motor to the bottom of the lake, it's really only held on then by the cables!

I got a new bow mount last year, Minn Kota Power Drive V2 with ipilot... Love it! However... Two times it has become unlocked will I was travelling at a high rate of speed. The first time it was a little bumpy, but not too bad, I was still going about 25 mph. Second time, lake was calm, I was doing about 32mph when it came unlocked. Both times it broke the lower housing and bent the pin badly. Parts aren't very expensive, and it should only take me about half an hour this time lol What I want to know is anyone else have a problem like this? I want to get something that will hold down the head of my motor to the gunnel, The guy from Aikman's told me to make sure I always adjust the locking collar down, but I don't think that will stop it from becoming unlocked, it will just stop it from hitting the water at 30mph which might stop it from getting broken... I've looked at the Ram Mount trolling motor stabilizer, but I'm looking for other opinions. Thanks!

Probably the best fishing boat ever built. I have a 178TC and love it. Now, I did have some issues because the guy I bought it from put a 4 stroke on it. I had to replace the transom. On the newer polarkrafts they are rated by weight rather then HP

On lake st. clair I just use a tube. I will tie a stand out hook on about 18 inches from the tube. It's been quite deadly on the smallies this year. The ones that can resist the tube, can't resist the powerbait 4 inch minnows!

We are going to the Kipiwa are in Quebec once again. Can't wait to get chewed on by the black flies... And then of course I'll be in fishing heaven on weekends this summer as long as the water is high enough to get my boat out of the channel of the Ruscom River and into Lake St. Clair Going to try and beat my personal best of 50.25 and the boat's best of 52.5!!!

My sister in law decided to have my nephew Christened the same day, I get a month notice for that, but knew about the Oddysey a year ago, decisions decisions lol

I've done all right for pike in long point inner bay. It's probably pretty tough to find them this time of year though as they head deeper. I would also recommend Mitchell's Bay in Lake St. Clair. You may end up with some Musky though. I also second the Moon River....

I fish on Lake. St. Clair alot. I always have my uhf radio on, and pretty much everytime out I hear the Coast Guard responding to Maday calls. Usually they are in the Detroit river, but I've picked them up from Lake Erie and Lake Huron before to. This is a blog post of a first hand experience of how easily and quickly things like this can happen. Sorry if it's already been posted, but I thought should really link this. I myself rarely wear a life vest, I always have them handy but just don't wear it. I think I've put it on maybe 3 times, all three times when I was on Lake Erie. I think I'm going to look into getting an inflatable soon though... mostly because of this story. Link to Story

For such a big fish that's a ferocious predator they certianly are wimpy! The water get's pretty warm on Lake St. Clair, but like was previously said, it's usually much much cooler a few feet down. When(and if lol) I catch them when it's warm I will just try and either leave them in the water, or get them back in the water as soon as possible. Lately I have been releasing all of them boatside.

Stayed there last september, cottages were nice and clean. Fishing was really tough. The water was WAYYYYY down and we never really did catch anything to speak of. Just a few little small mouth. A really nice camp, but not a fish camp atmosphere and I didn't find the owners were really too concerned about your comfort. Several propane tanks were empty on 4 bbq's, and if you bring your own boat there you maybe hard pressed to find suitable dockage. I ended up having some trouble with my trailer lights and I had to leave my boat there. I tried to wake the owners up but they are heavy sleepers I guess, left if there anyways, and before I got home from work the next day had several not so nice messages on my voice mail. I would try Wolsey Bay Lodge or Lochaven next time. Just my two cents...

The river has been really dirty, I've only heard reports of walleye so far, and nothing spectacular as the dirty water has kept alot of guys off the water, but it is(was) starting to clear up. The silver bass are usually not to far behind, water is still very cold though.... last I heard 46 or 47 degrees.. BRRRRRRR

I did try to contact polar kraft a couple times, no response, left a voice mail yesterday, no help. I spoke with Jim from J&J Marine and as it stands I have an appointment to take my boat in to see him on Friday. The boat came with a mercury, not sure the horsepower but all the controlls are Mercury. There is a history of problems with these boats when 4 strokes started to hit the market, they are so much heavier they caused problems like this. I bought the boat used with the honda on it... even though I have this issue I wouldn't change anything about it... I could try and whine to polarkraft and maybe they fix it, then I send my boat away and get it back just in time for NEXT spring... It's a rivetted hull but some pieces are welded to it......

thanks for the reply Sled... The damage is basically due to the motor being too heavy, the skeg is good shape actually, but the prop does have a few little dings on it from some rocks I found in Wollesley bay last year :/ I have a friend that wants to swap me motors, but I'd rather just put that motor on a newer hull I think... Love the honda... it's an absolute gas miser!
