  1. Can't go wrong dropping in to see Steve in Lambeth - great guy, great store! Harv
  2. Well said Mike!! Kudos on another stellar day on the river. And I am with you 100% regarding the Riverkeeper - quality reels, quality guy!!! I am not so sure about letting that Wallace dude fish out of your back pocket though... cheers Harv
  3. Ya, Tuesday was a tough day - NO ONE on the river caught fish that day - EVERYONE caught fish on Wednesday - just one of those things!!! One thing is for sure - there will be no more of those reports!! Still no need to be naming rivers!!! Thanks for deleting the post Bill.
  4. So I guess even those who couldn't figure it out from the pictures now know where those fish were caught.......
  5. I had a Stream Runner 1 for a few years. Other than the fact that it was on the heavy side, it was a good reel. I sold it a couple years ago - in MINT condition - for much less than the one you are looking at. With a little more money you could pick up a brand new Islander or since you are looking at a Chinny outfit it might serve you well to look at a 5" like a Raven Matrix. Just my opinion though!!! Good luck, Harv
  6. I am going to be in the Bradford area camping next week and was hoping someone could give me some helpful hints on where to take the kids fishing. I won't have access to a boat so shore fishing is the only option. I am not familiar with the area at all so any advise on "kid friendly" spots for bass, perch, crappie etc would be greatly appreciated. thanks Harv
  7. I have built a couple multi piece rods for friends and they seem to perform well. The specific blank is a Rainshadow SB 720 and it is a 6' 4 piece spinning rod rated for 4 - 8 lb test. I would have to measure to be exact but I believe each section is around 20" long. I can tell you that Batson (Rainshadow )also has a great warranty. My buddy broke the tip section of his while in Algonquin this spring and they replaced the top section of the blank no questions asked. I don't know much about telescopic rods aside from the two I keep in the trailer for the kids to use when camping. They pack up real nice but are not of the quality that I would fish regularly with. 8. Looks like you had a pretty stellar day on the Muskegeon there Mike. Last Wednesday we ventured over to a river a little north of that and had a pretty decent day ourselves. We did not have the benefits of a boat but we did a little legwork and were rewarded with some fresh chrome. Great deal you found on the guide - there are a lot of drift boats over there as it really is the best way to cover much of that water. Timing is everything and I think last week was Michigan's first real big push of fish this Spring. Fails miserably in comparison to your photo gallery, but here is some of what we found. Harv
  9. Go for it! As a hobby it is lots of fun ( especially in the winter months ). The best advice I could give you is to find a good mentor and a good book. If you want to PM me I can steer you in the right direction for both. There are also a few good forums on-line that are very helpful. I started with ice fishing rods as well. Good place to start since there is little invested. Practice is the key to a nice wrap!! Once I put together a couple of ice rods I picked up a couple cheap spin blanks and tied em up - stipped em down - and tied em up again. AS you get more confident and pick up some tricks of the trade you will want to build nicer rods. I have only been at it for less than 2 years but I am now to the point where I have built a couple spinning rods for friends and a few nice rods for myself including 13' float rod that is just a joy to fish with. It is very cool to fish with a rod you built for yourself!! I have found that I have been busier with repairs. I have a couple buddies in the Charter business and their equipment gets abused regularly. Good luck HArv
  10. All I ever use is Italian bread crumbs. I dip the filets in milk (or water) and then into the bread crumbs. It makes a nice dry batter that fries up nice and golden. When the fillets come out of the grease I spice them up accordingly. I love the Lemon and Herb Clubhouse spice as well as the Cajun. Have a great trip. HARV
  11. That was simply a great read. Thanks for posting. Now I am even more excited about our trip to the Park May 3. It must be wonderful to share a trip like that with your dad. My dad and I fish together 90% of the time but Algonquin is one trip he won't come on with us. He is not much for canoes or sleeping on the ground. Good luck this year and I think we are all looking forward to another photo essay. Harv
  12. Actually, I did hook up with Dom through the Quest Board. He made the cork for the rod in my Avatar picture. It is funny because he is making me another grip right now for a short spin rod and I had him do it with green burl something like yours. I saw the picture of yours on his website and thought it looked very sharp - especially with the green reelseat and butt cap. When I saw your post and pics from the 'Geen there was no mistaking that grip. He does very nice work. Again, great pics Mike. Harv
  13. Great report Mike, Do I recognize that grip? Looks like one of Dom's creations??? Very sharp indeed. Harv
