  1. While most of Ontario is still thawing out us here in the banana belt will be hitting the open water. The river is a lot of fun vertical jigging for eyes. Boat control is the key to catching fish. The month of April leading into mothers day weekend is prime time. As the fish migrate back to Lake Erie things will heat up in May for the trollers.

  2. Bob I noticed that you use Otter boards. I've heard about them and they look like thewy track well. What are your thoughts on them vs other boards?

I like the way the Otters track and they store beside my seats without scratching the fibreglass on my boat. I have used others, wood ones could scratch with the bolts and rods they are made with. Large molded boards did not seem to track well or were too long to store. I was happy with the performance and storage of the Otters and have used them for about 11 years.

  3. Great show guys congrats on the fatty

Thanks Mike and others, you never know when you are going to catch a "big" fish and you want it to come at the right time. This one did! I prefished for 2 days before the shoot and we could not break 40". As you can tell it all worked out with a mix of fish from 32"-??" lol.

  4. We trolled a number of "local" baits and the Shallow Raiders. They all caught fish, but one "local" bait did better getting 5 of the 9 bites we had during that day of filming. Yes it was all done on 1 day from about 10am-430pm. As was mentioned in the show there was a front circling the great lakes and we had a little bit of, sun, wind and rain.

  5. I tie mine too, 6' long for my open water Lake Erie fishing. 15# floro, orange, chartruese, purple, white, red, or green beads, quick change clevis, single hook for the front and

treble on the rear and a I put barrel swivel up front to prevent line twist. I wrap my harnesses on a swim tube like others but do not add the blades. Each tube has its own color of bead. I will add the blade when I put it in the water. I included a picture of the blade boxes that I use to organize my blades sizes 4 5 and 6 mostly Colorado's.

If anyone is interested in a blade box $20 I will have some at the Spring Boat and Fishing Show in Feb.

  6. Good to know.

I would think that updates will also be phased out, but easily added for a fee to your device.

Any updates will be updated almost immediately since you will not have to wait for a new print. Once the data is developed the info can be updated and it could be as quick as the next day for the new dive curve.

For those who do use their book I have laminated the pages that I use the most, Reef Runners, Rapala DHJ 10-12, Tail Dancers and Smithwick Rogues and placed this laminated paper on the lid of my Plano 3700 for quick reference.

  7. I was with Mark Romanack author of the Precision Guide to trolling book this wknd and there will be a new APP coming out this spring using the droid system. The "book" will no longer be published so if you're not a techie or like paper I suggest you purchase one soon. The books that are out there now are the only ones left.

  8. I am going to be purchasing a new trolling motor this spring, it is either a Fortrex or a Terrova. I had a Powerdrive a few years back and I didn't like the whining noise when steering. Are the newer ones any better in regards to the noise? The I-pilot makes it more attractive for buying but is it worth it when you take into account the steering whine? Is Motorguide any better? I would really appreciate your opinions.

Both motors and brands are good. I have both a Terrova and a Maxxxum-pre Fortrex. I like the Maxxum for vertical jigging the river as I dont have to look at where the motor is pointing. The Terrova is a trolling machine with features that will make your job easy. Cruise control, anchor, track record and auto pilot all with the use of a hand held remote or the foot pedal.

Once again it willl be a personal choice, preference and the type or types of fishing you do. The shows are coming up and 2012 products will be hitting the shelves you may score a deal on last yrs model.

  9. Saying LSC was an impressive fishery would be an understatement. I've never seen a sonar show so much activity over miles of water. BIG props out to Bob Devine, this was the first time I've ever had the pleasure of fishing with a pro and can say with confidence that it definitely won’t be my last. Spending a day on a boat with someone with that much pedigree in the fishing world is an incredible learning experience. Picking Bob's brain on the water was almost as much fun as hunting down these giants.

"If you wanna take in scenery and mosquitoes go north; if you wanna catch fish come to LSC"

    Bob ROCKS!

    :clapping:

Thanks for the kind words and I look forward to fishing with you and Mike again.

  10. Call me lucky but my backyard has just about everything I need. Walleye jigging on the Detroit River, trolling lake Erie for walleyes. Musky fishing on Lake St Clair, bass fishing on Erie and LSC, perch fishing on Erie and more open water fishing with steelhead on Erie.

There are 4 Ontario records from the area, one of the crappies- white or black, yellow perch, sauger and white bass striper cross. Yes there are some great areas but to have so many choices in the Windsor area its hard to leave.
