My 10 year old son’s baseball team is having a fundraising raffle, first prize is a pair of tickets to a Corporate Suite for a Raptors game...1st round of the playoffs! Food and drinks included.

There’s ALSO a day of fishing for two at The Franklin Club! We actually have a really great list of prizes: Blue Jays Tickets, Argos tickets, Restaurant Gift Cards, Canoe Camp, Gift Baskets, Sports Collectibles, and so much more... Really, there's something for everyone!

Tickets are just $10 each, or 3 for $20. If you can pay by EMT, we can fill out your contact info on the ticket stub, and email you your 4 digit number. Please contact our Team Manager via the form on the website, or email Michele directly: "fundraising AT stingers DOT team"

  2. Pickerel Hunter > I built one out of oak, just like the one in your picture, and have had no problems like you are concerned about. There is a little twisting at full speed, but like BillM says, it just wedges it in. I don't use a motor often, but it's great to have it available, should the occasion call for it. I had an extra long cable put on the Minn Kota so the battery could sit up near the bow.... Good Luck with the test!

  3. I went ice fishing for the first time in my life yesterday, Cook's Bay, Lake Simcoe.

Thanks to a tip I read here, I went to Family Ice Cabins, Dave is a GREAT guy, that's him on the right...

Lots of fun, lots of small perch. Only three keepers.

Needless to say, with wind chill and all, they were flash frozen. I kept them in the white bucket, put them in the backyard when I got home last night.

What do I do now? Do I have to let them thaw slowly in the fridge, then clean them when they are nearly thawed, and cook them right away?

  4. I picked up a used motor off kijiji with the thought of building a mount, putting it on my canoe.

I'm having some trouble understanding what my options are for a battery.

Has someone here used one of these on a canoe or dinghy, can point me in the right direction?

Even a link that explains battery choice would be helpful.

    Many Thanks

  5. My little guy is just in awe of the Wheelchair basketball team...

He believes that they *are* the Pan Am Games! They're heroes to my boy.

They kindly let him in to watch their practice this morning, and were more than generous with their time.

My wife just happened to grab a few pics of Adam in action...

Anyhow Adam, I have to agree that either Toronto Island or the mouth of the Rouge might work for you guys...

I try to fish from shore myself, but haven't had much luck finding bass in the Rouge, I do believe that they are there, they are just smarter than I am.

  6. My buddy inherited this old rod, possibly a fly rod, from his grandfather...

We are just curious as to what it might be. It seems like it might be a fly rod, perhaps a spey rod. It has two tips, one of which looks like it was repaired at some point. It was stored in a cloth bag.

He stands about 6' 4", so you can see the length... and he's about sixty, so his grandfather is long gone, I'm afraid. His grandfather was originally from England, but was a butcher in Fergus, Ontario... being a prime fishing area, it's possible someone down on their luck may have traded this to him for some reason, but who knows?

Anyhow, just wondered if this would be a good place to ask!

    Cheers

  7. I have a 2007 Caravan.

I bought the standard kit at MEC... it has the necessary foam blocks for starters. The two ratchet straps go from side to side and are all you need for short trips, IMHO.

I have a tow bar at the back to hook the rear straps onto. Of course, the strap you really need for highway driving is the one at the front, and there is absolutely no way to do this on a Caravan. You have to either buy or make fittings/straps that will be inserted under the hood. I got mine at MEC as well, but there are lots of "how-to's" posted online.

    Hope this helps.

  8. I was in my Crappy Tire last night, and despite the fact that I thought I had bought similar stuff there in years past, was unable to find anything. That's actually part of why I thought I would ask....

I was going to try again at the big one at Leslie/Lakeshore, and I guess the referral to West Marine gives me a couple of great options. Thanks guys.

Mrpike> will marine paint actually stick to the fiberglass the, and jazz up the appearance of the exterior? Just use a regular brush? Does it add much weight? Thx.

  9. I've been trying to sort out how I would spend more time with my young son this summer, and was toying with the idea of renting a cottage here and there, but decided to spend some time camping (more my style) and keep an eye out for a good deal on a used canoe....

Well, my little guy (who's just 3) and I went out this evening and got a great deal on this new (to us) canoe…. just $150!

The previous owner ran the keel over some rocks, and repaired it with "fiberglass foam" and say it's watertight, but I will rip out their repair and fiberglass it properly at some point in the next couple of weeks. The boy and I are very excited.

I can't tell you how many times in my life I have gone out and bought a couple of paddles, because of a new canoe, and here I am, at it again!

Oh, so, btw, any advice on where to buy the marine fiberglass stuff, do the repair right? I'll probably try and do a little reading on the internet, of course.

    Cheers
