It is a huge system to fish. It was probably 10 years ago that i was there and it was tough fishing. Watch out because the lake gets rough fast and the shoals are very random. I think your approach sounds good and you should bring all your tricks to that lake.

Yes, that is what i was talking about. Seen lots of videos and info from the States but not much from Ontario. I just got a drift boat and want to try it. Can you do it any time in the fall or is it better on winter steelhead?

Anybody ever try back trolling plugs for steelhead? Mainly out of a drift boat on a larger ontario river(with shallow and deep pools). Not asking for spots or anything just wondering if people do it in Ontario. Thanks.

I have caught them on twisters and just minnow under a float. You hook into a lot of Gar but it is mainly luck if they stay on.

Fished the Grand below Caledonia all my life and have seen some good Pike caught. I wouldn't say a lot but enough to keep it interesting. I have caught good numbers right at Caledonia Dam in the spring. There is way more Gar around then Northern's.

I am a fly fisherman and fish creeks that are single barbless with no live bait. I don't mind seeing spinner fisherman that are following the rules and i always find it interesting to see what technique is doing better that day. We are all there to fish and enjoy the outdoors. I started fishing a local creek that is special regulations and i couldn't believe how many people were fishing live bait in a no live bait section of the creek. It was sad to see but i know these guys don't represent all spin fisherman. If you go by the rules any technique is good in my book.

2050 Crestliner with a 300 Mercury Verado. Four guys with fuel and gear 55 mph. Had it going 65 mph lightly loaded.

We use almost all Talora rods on our boat for Erie and Lake Ontario fishing. I like the medium heavies and think the mediums pull to hard. (just my two cents but i have fished both) The medium is fine for walleye because it is like hauling in a bucket of sand. However, if you are ever going to use Mag Dipsy's and you have a big salmon or bow on you will be happy for the extra back bone. Again this is just my two cents and i am sure others prefer the mediums.

Our old boat was a 17 ft Sylvan with a 115 Johnson on it and we never needed the kicker. When we went to the 20 ft Crestliner with the 300 Merc we put a 9.9 Merc Pro Kicker on it. The thing is louder than our 300 and much fussy to start. However, you can adjust speed and save on fuel nicely. If you are doing long off shore trips on the Great Lakes i believe it is an important safety tool in case of main engine problems.

All i can really talk about is walleye since we don't perch fish very often anymore.We actually fish east towards Port Colborne and Maitland. When we first started targeting Walleye we would fish off the hydro plant to the tip of Long Point. Just head out and start covering water and you will find patterns. Keep a journal of where, when, temps and fish. When it comes to strategy your best bet is to comb the water. i do outside boards high with 20 jets and way out. (200 ft of the board) Then 10 to 6 colour on the inside boards, dipsy divers and riggers. Cover the water from top to bottom tell a pattern shows. I like to run stick baits but also do well with worm harnesses. In the end it is all about time on the water and bringing everything you have learned together to catch fish consistently. Good luck.

Early in the year we start at the river mouths and mud lines. If you are new to big water fishing this is a good way to start because it's close to shore and the methods are a little simpler. Just run cranks behind boards of different colours and distances to start. Find the warmer water and start from there. Remember it is a learning curve and have fun.

I use Scotty riggers and release clips. I use two rods with Charter Special reels that you can preset the drag so you can lower both lines hands free. Trying to thumb two reels and lower the ball at the same time is tough if you don't have them or don't have another person to help. i always put the lower line out further than the one above it so when it releases it doesn't catch and have never had a tangle yet. I like riggers for fishing deep but if you are shallow or wanting a spread for walleye you need all the methods to really rake the water.

i fished Kipawa about eight years ago and it was an interesting lake. First off it was a rough lake because of it's size so be prepared to fish in some heavy seas.(we were in a 19 ft Starcraft) We downrigged and flat lined for days and didn't have much of anything to show for it. However, when we went back in the summer we caught lots of smaller lakers of of the riggers. As for the spring the majority of the lake trout were caught by casting dead herring off the docks into deep water and just letting them sit on bottom. If you bring downriggers be careful because the lake bottom is crazy. You will have 300 ft down to 50 ft in no time.I should mention we marked tons of fish all the time on bottom but couldn't ever get them to hit a thing. If the main lake isn't producing there are some good brook trout lakes in the area. Good luck.

Thats a great fish! We were out sunday too and got one salmon about 18 lbs and seven browns. Never seen so many boats out of Jordan so soon in the season.

I was looking for a new boat and decided to go with Crestliner (21 ft Rapter with 300 mercury) I think they are the best designed boats around right now. I picked it over a Lund, Alumacraft, Sylvan and G3. Let us know how you like it!

Hello again sorry for not replying sooner, I was fishing in Bay of Quinte. This engine will be going on a 1850 Crestliner Raptor TE from Proctor Mairne and they can get either engine put on the boat. Right now we have a Sylvan 17 ft with a 115 Johnson 4-Stroke( a great boat and motor but getting old). Thankyou for all the info! Quinte Report. We got 6 walleye (10-2 lbs) all on pink or purple baits and 220-250 ft behind the boards. Most were caught at the ferry crossing area.

Trying to pick out a engine for new boat. Looking at Evinrude E-tec 200HP or Mercury Verado 200 HP. Any opinions with either would be helpful. Thanks
