  1. Hey Guys,

    Headed out for the opener this morning and despite the weather forecast, the rain actually held off for most of the morning. The walleye were hitting but not on fire, my grandpa and I caught 7 total, with 4 of them being keepers. Overall decent opener but no monsters an not a lot of fish but definately way better then getting skunked. Tons of boats on the water and despite the boat traffic the walleye were active chasing down our jerkbaits. Hope all the other guys on the water also had some luck for the opener!

  2. I am a Russian Fan and watching the last 3 games seemed unreal! Comeback against Finland, Comeback against Sweden, and the most epic comeback against Canada! These 3 wins showed that hockey is a 60 min game and that even when down you are not out. Russia wanted it more and outplayed Canada in the 3rd period and it is as simple as that. Congratulations to the Russian Team for playing with all their heart throughout the tournament and never giving up. Tough game to win being down 3-0 in the third period and having 20,000 Canadian fans cheering against you and Russia played some of the most amazing hockey I have ever seen in the 3rd period! Russia and Canada are both amazing hockey nations and congrats to both teams and I can't wait for the next showdown in one of the best rivalries in sports! Russia Baby!

  4. Hey guys,

    I have a question I really need some help with, I am planning to rent a uhaul 6 x 12 ft trailer to pick up 2 sleds from the states and was wondering if a 2004 Yamaha RX1 Warrior and a 2005 Yamaha RX1 Warrior would fit into this trailer? The trailer also does not have a ramp and was wondering what method to use to get them in there if they fit? Any help or advice is really appreciated

  5. Hey Guys,

    Hit the Kawartha lakes with my grandpa today for a few hours, the wind made casting a little difficult so we decided to do a little trolling. Trolled some Rapala Super Shad Raps and Believers in 12-17 FOW for some musky and ended up with one small musky and a very aggressive walleye. Not the best day of fishing but still much better then sitting at home!

  6. That laker is a Tank! Congrats, I went out for lakers today in Haliburton and got skunked. I was flat lining rapala taildancer, and other spoons and nothing, do you need downriggers to catch lake trout?

  7. Are you sure its not just the foot pedal on your power drive that's on the fritz? I go thru one pretty much every season. I just got another new one yesterday at LeBarons. I'd check that out before I bought a new one.

    I don't see any reason why the edge wouldn't work though.

    I wish it was the pedal, but I took it to the Minn Kota warranty shop in Mississauga and they said it was something internal in the motor.

  8. Hi Guys,

    Need some advice,

    I have a Legend 151 Viper just like the one below and have had a Minn Kota Motor electric powerdrive motor on it which broke, I now wanted to get a wire trolling motor like this Minn Kota Edge 45lb thrust but was told it would not fit or work properly with a v-hull boat. Just wondering if anyone has a setup similar to this and let me know if it can work or if it is impossible because I really prefer the wire trolling motors and wanted to get one for my legend.

    This is the exact same boat as my legend

  9. Hey Guys,

    Got the small boat on the water for the first time this year and headed out for some early season action with my grandpa, and it felt great to hit some open water. Went to Dunnville and fished the Grand River yesterday hoping to hook into some monster cats! Got there pretty early and saw fish jumping so we immediately knew they were there but the low water levels, high current, and strong winds did not make for an easy day of fishing. We got 5 cats in total and the biggest one coming right before sunset near the dam. Will give it another week or so to go out again and maybe the water level will rise and the current will let up.

  10. I'm pretty sure minnow knows the difference between a pike and a Musky.

    But I think they should close pike fishing until may 14 also in the Kawarthas. Anyone fishing for pike will be catching mostly everything but pike. Unless you are fishing Canal lake, or Crowe.

    Thanks Johnny Bass

    I completely agree on the opening pike all year, since most of the kawartha lakes are filled with walleye, bass, and muskie and that is what you will be catching while targeting pike. I don't think the season should be open on these lakes where you might catch one incidental pike once every season.

    That is why I asked if anyone knows any predominantly pike lakes like Canal, and Crowe that I can get the boat out for some early action. Thanks for the tips guys and see you on the water!

  11. Minnow;

    Thanks for posting;

    I am with Muskies Canada and would be very interested in confirmation of Pike either caught or sighted in any of the Kawartha Lakes.

    We are currently working with the OMNR to precisely identify lakes where the Pike have managed to invade the system.

    Up to now we have only been able to comfirm that they are in as far as Balsam.

    Please PM me with pictures if you have them and the locations where they were caught. (location does not have to be exact GPS coordinates but that would help)

    along with time of year.

    Thanks

    Hey,

    I caught one in Sturgeon near Goosebay on a weed edge during mid May right after opener. The fish in Scugog was caught off of my friends boat in July and not really sure on the location as I am not really familiar with the lake, but pretty sure it was the norhtern part of scugog. Both pike were hammer handles not bigger then 25". I obviously did not take pictures of the fish as they were hammer handles and I can say 100% that they were pike, since I catch muskie all the time on sturgeon and other lakes and was shocked to see pike had already made it down. I hope they do not take over like they did in other lakes such as Elephant which I fish often, this lake use to be muskie exclusive lake and is now over run with hammerhandle pike.

  12. I hope you weren't keeping the "pike" that you were catching out of Sturgeon and Scugog...

    If you are implying that the "pike" I caught were musky, I can assure you they were 100% pike, I know scugog and sturgeon are musky lakes but these 2 pike I caught in each lake were incidental catches during walleye openers. I hate catching pike in these musky lakes since I know how a pike population can over take a musky population and to know some pike have already reached these lakes really worries me.

    Anyways Thanks for all the tips guys!

  13. Hey guys

    I noticed that Pike is open all year in zone 17, I have caught a few pike on sturgeon and scugog and was hoping to get out on the water as soon as possible. Just wondering if there are any pike lakes or chances to hook into some ice out pike in zone 17 in April?

    Thanks!

  14. Hey Dave, Im a big fan and try to catch all your facts of fishing shows. The best part about your show is the excitment that you bring to every episode and I feel that you definately brought the excitment this time! You started off the 3rd season with a BANG, 600 lb test and 450 lb Goliath Grouper, are you kidding me! A couple of critiques are that you went a little light on the line and took too long fighting the little guy next time just power him in! JK. If this episode doesn't get you pumped you gotta check your pulse. One comment I want to make about the fact of fishing the show is that I love the variety of fish and places that you visit and fish, and I think it is a great balance between exotic and local is great (local meaning places us ofners can fish without flying in on a float plane). Congrats on the 3rd season and keep up the great work and can't wait for more episodes!
