  1. I'd return it and get either the ice 55 by hummingbird or a lx-5 from Marcum. I have the ice 55 its super easy to use and accurate. I've heard nothing but good things from the marcum camp as well. That's my opinion though I've never used a vexilar but I think they are lagging behind in tech

  2. just wondering how everyone cooks up their crappies got 12 nice chemong crappie last saturday and just wondering the best way to cook them. we ate saturdays crappie on sunday trp up north for trout on the ice. we just cooked them in oil cause thats all we brought i have used the fish crisp which was delicious and i seen on here to use crushed up sweet chili heat doritos which was delicious any other ideas/

  3. every ice rescue call in kawartha lakes requires 3 halls to respond.(dont mean to piss ppl off its the facts) you need your resuce crew and a backup crew and a R.I.T. (rapid intervention team) as well as ppl to set up equipment cause you cant do it in a rescure suit as well as ppl to help you into the suits, line handlers, incident commander and a scene safety officer. as well as medical crew and general equipment operators. it sounds like alot but ontario has lost a few FF's in the last few years due to ice rescue situations and protocols have changed big time it used to be a one hall 5 guy operations but workplace safety boards and section 21 guidlines have fire depts across ontario by the balls. ive been a volunteer for 7 years now and the changes have been drastic. we have never fined anyone for needing help though that just bad PR. mistakes are mad all the time!

  4. heading out onto simcoe for the first time ever on saturday. we are targeting whitefish/lake trout (hoping to catch my first of each.) are plan is to just head towards ice huts and hope for best. were should we launch from? we are coming from lindsay side i think it come out near beaverton any ideas?

  5. my ice 55 is not working well wont pick up my jig on screen anymore. when i drop it down in my buddys hole his works fine im thinking its the transducer. even on max gain it just wont work. ive sent it back to get repaired because sail in oshawa wont do a exchange. (it happened 2 days after i bought it last year). they sent it to north bay for repair it came back and they left a note saying nothing wrong should i just spend the 80 bucks on a transducer or does anybody no how to fix this or whats going on with it ?

Oh went to partridge lake near carnarvan today with no success. two nibbles. marked about 20 fish on buddys flasher though not sure what they were but prob brookies.:wallbash:

  6. went for a walk back to the lake today with the dog and brought my auger and a couple jigging rods. there was open water around a beaver dam behind my house and the beaver was chewing a stick on the ice so i walked down the shore a bit were it was froze over and punched a hole believe it or not 4inchs of ice so i walked out 30 ft drilling along the way and dropped a line in and jigged for 10 or 15 minutes didnt see anything in the hole water was about 7 ft deep. just as i was starting to get the feeling something was about to happen the dog scratched my leg and he was shiverng so i packed it in for the day. the channel in the lake was open so i wouldnt venture very far out.

i am a trained ice and water rescue tech so i have a good feel for ice conditions. if you head out fishing on thin ice always carry ice picks i carry them in my fire gear and they make climbing out of the ice possible for 10 bucks its worth every penny. if your near the ice at all they are worth it.

  7. I recently bought a 2012 sportsman 500 ho that i plan on using to ice fish this year this is my first atv. i have been told that to use it in the winter i have to take the plastic gaurds of that cover the a arms and axles so that snow and ice does not build up and rip the cv boots. i took the rear covers off and it looks fine after removing the fronts though it looks like there is not going to be much protection for the front axles so i put them back on. Anyone have any ideas or do anything like this to their quads for the winter? thanks for any advice.

  8. i fish a bass tourny on that lake every year in august and this is one of may favorite lakes just last year we caught a 6.5 pound lm and a 4.5 lm as well as 3 2 pounders for a wiegh in around 17 pounds and that was only good for second place. i have found that the bass are not being eaten as much as in other lakes because of the lack of large numbers of pike or musky. fishing shoreline cover including docks lay downs and weed beds is how we produced are big bag last year all on hard baits no soft plastics which is weird for us. This year i thin we will be using live target blue gill cranks that dive 6 to 8 feet as well as spinnerbaits. good luck
