  1. Cliff, I have had the privilege to meet both you and Sue. You are good people. My condolences to you Cliff, she was a great lady.
  2. Fire plug is the name......it registered once I read that. I have one in orange from years ago!
  3. I believe the top one is a QuikFish (not sure of spelling) and the middle one is a Beno which was made by Mill Run tackle. Not sure of bottom one though.
  4. Good to read the problem has been fixed. Incredible how we get to feeling lousy in small increments and then, when things are fixed, we realise how awful we've been feeling for so long!
  5. Your son is doing a good job of guiding it seems, letting the old man win the big money! Glad you had a good trip.
  6. I apologise too for taking it off topic, sorry about that. I had been following the migration of pike from Simcoe to the east, but of course they are migrating from both directions! Sure makes for some pretty looking fish though.
  7. Tom, what strain of muskies were stocked in Lake Simcoe? Can they co-exist with pike? In theory, if they can, they may follow the pike down thru the Kawartha lakes chain. It might not help the Kawartha strain of muskie but would ensure a viable population of muskies.
  8. Love the idea of giving up the GTA for Buckhorn! Glad you were able to make it happen!
  9. Hank it was a great time sharing a boat with you guys! Watching kids land their first muskies is something special......having your own kid console you with offers of him hooking another and passing the rod over to help me out just made the laughs even better. The kids held up well casting muskie baits, and it was good to see their patience and determination paid off.
  10. Amazing what hides in a skid! A lot of work to bring it up the way you did. We heat with wood here and a friend dropped off over 100 skids of mixed woods. Always a heartbreaker when you see good hardwood in them but it always seems it's full of nails and staples. Nice to see someone with the vision to take "garbage" and make it into something!
  11. Strange how as the article speaks of funding issues at the same time looking at her picture made me feel sick and in need of a doctor! The irony was amazing.......
  12. Good to read that after the heart issues you got out fishing and had success. Just being on the water is the best therapy, a fish in the boat just speeds the healing! That tiger is a pretty fish for sure. I fished Wednesday too and had nothing in the boat, must have been the weather.
  13. We get both the blue and green herons on our pond, never at the same time though. Amazing to watch. Have never seen the green ones catch anything though. Was amazed how big the fish was and how easily he got it down!
  14. No where else I'd rather be. Always easy to find the flaws, but we are so lucky here in so many ways.
  15. As a kid my dad took me fishing, and while we didn't always catch a lot, he taught me to love fishing. I remember not being able to lift his huge tackle box as a kid, and he'd have me carry light weight stuff to the boat. Years later when his heart went bad, it was me carrying all the stuff to the boat and me just getting him into the boat. Complete role reversal, but I miss it. Even now I look to the front of the boat for him, and he's been gone 15 yrs. Since I'm fishing the same waters with my boys now (Buckhorn lake) I love it when my kids will say "Isn't this where Gramps caught that muskie?" Even though he was gone before they were born, it's as though they know him. I'm sure he smiles at the thought, just as I do.
  16. Isn't #1 evening primrose? Spreads nicely. I think #5 is dianthus. I would have thought #6 is one of the hardy geraniums? Most of my info is based on root divisions given to me by others who have said "Here, do you want some of ....." and I take them at their word it is actually what they call it! \ Nice stuff you have there!
  17. Love that bit about sleeping the sleep of an angler. When the kids are thoroughly exhausted like that, you know it's been a great day.
  18. I burn the lesser woods like willow during the shoulder seasons too.......just enough to take the chill off. The "good" stuff is reserved for the depths of winter. As for the water, it will dry out eventually.
  19. Friends of mine had a kitchen wall blown out but eggs were still sitting on the kitchen counter after the tornado blew past. Strange things happen.
  20. I lived in Barrie way back then and was on my way home from work when it hit. Didn't know it was a tornado at the time but pulled over due to such heavy rain and hail. Thought windshield would be broken for sure. Wind was rocking truck back and forth. The weirdest and scariest part was that green sky. That was just creepy.
  21. What a relief for all concerned! With spring here Cliff it could be allergies affecting the eyes too!
  22. Cliff, sorry to read that lengthy list. We all seem to get dealt stuff, but you have been handed more than your fair share. At least in the midst of it all, those on your list have a man of your integrity and fortitude to lean on. Hang in there, though I wish mere words could fix stuff like this.
  23. I can change mine.....and have even changed them for others when they couldn't!
  24. Flack for doing the honest thing? I'd do the same. I would also expect the store to make good on it if it had gone the other way and I'd been double charged!
