always use a wire or fluoro leader for pike or muskie. they will slice through braid like a hot knife through butter. it may not happen tomorrow, but believe me it will happen and when it's a trophy that you've just lost you'll be kickin' yourself.

downeast salty s-10. they will outlast your boat.

"Paint" 2-3' of the faded part of your braid with a permament black marker. I've not found either species to mind braid but that's just me.

use a thicker line on a baitcaster 12+lb mono or 30+ braid. I find it helps and its easier to pick out the birdsnests. also, start with heavier lures. other than that, practise practise like the others have said.

yep, you really can';t go wrong with any of them http://www.tackletour.com/menuarchive.html has some head-to-head comparisons; shimano vs daiwa to confuse you some more. i find daiwa spinning reels have the best drags. that is just me. you might be able to get a capricorn or laguna around that price if you shop around.

Daiwa are my #1 choice for spinning reels. Just find the model in your price range. They've a few that will suit your needs.

try any of the kawartha lakes and yes, you'll likely need a boat. shore opportunities are few and far between and those that know some spots are pretty tight-lipped. i've never fished it but the provincial park at balsam lake apparently rents boats or canoes.

i like my 6'9" st croix premiere for this. a lot of guys like the shorter rods for jerkbaits, but that would depend on your height obviously. i am 6', throw everything from suicks to gliders with it.

If you are going to do it, I would take ecmilley's advice and have them properly cleaned and flow tested. I don't have much faith in these additives either. I've had the service done at Rovan Diesel in Mississasuage. Took 'em out, dropped them off and picked them up the next day. They'll provide new o-rings which is a good idea as they tend to get old and crack causing air leaks. I thought seafoam was a combustion chamber cleaner not injector cleaning product.
