  1. Hard to argue against trout on light gear too
  2. Those are nice reels you picked up I was looking at them too. All depends on what style of fishing you do but I would get another 7' MH 1pc, stick the quantums on the 7'ers and maybe a shorter softer M or ML 6'6" for your BPS reel & 20# braid. The 7' are versatile rods, you can use em for bass, pike, bottom bouncing for walleye amongst other things.
  3. wire - no stretch, you will feel every headshake. next would be the no stretch braids.
  4. shimano tdrs, cabela's depthmaster are examples of dipsey rods that don't break the bank. I don't know what the bps house brand is. you don't need anything fancy.
  5. straight pipe + header, problem solved.
  6. for the shore bound angler the spring time is best. fall fishing can be good however access to a boat is pretty much a neccessity as the fish (at least ones with any size) will generally not be in the shallows
  7. i would use a weedless presentation
  8. Saugeen smallies can be a bit bigger.. I would use at least a 6.5" and 6 or 8lb mono. Wire leaders are an idea as there is a population (depending where you are) of pike and muskie in the river. As Lexx stated the water is usually stained althoguh I've not fished the extreme upper portion of the river.
  9. Ohh I'm not interested in eating them. You called them EVIL and great fighters, that's all I needed to hear.
  10. ...adding bluefish to long list of species on the 'to-catch-list'.
  11. I think the fellow at Angling Specialties may repair reels as well. Not positive. I DO know he repairs rods (guides).
  12. angling specialties - dont have the exact address but they are at Central Pkwy and Confederation.
  13. really depends on where and when you fish. i like blues and whites when the water's cold or fishing deep. white is also a great dirty water colour. blues and purples when overcast/raining. i like hot colours in shallow water, sunny days. perch has been a staple in my arsenal too and I find it and other natural finishes are a good all-round type of colour.
  14. Cutting the hooks allows you release the fish that much quicker - the less time it takes you to release the less chance you or the fish will get hurt. In some instances the fish will swallow your lure or be hooked in such a way (ie. jaw wired shut) that makes it impossible to free it without doing serious damage. Snip. Get the lure out of the way. Once the hook is cut it is very easy to remove the remaining bits out of the fish. Lures with single hooks like mikeh mentioned help a lot when compared to trebles. Some people also go barbless on their hooks... and yeah dont forget the jaw spreaders.
  15. a pen style net (ie. beckman or frabill) hook cutters (knipex makes a great pair, but you can get away with a pair of large Crappy Tire cutters) long nose pliers it's not a cheap sport to get into.
  16. nothing cold beer wont heal. 2-4 more weeks in a brace and still possibility of surgery.
  17. that yella jacket needs to be retired. look for a guy on the limp too. cold beer is always welcome
  18. i think this site's 'visibility' on the net is what draws new people here. it is easy to find in a websearch. we'll discuss my cut this wknd TJ.
  19. it may be an incorrect observation but my opinion is that the vast majority of the membership here is new to or re-discovering the sport and would be the target your friend is looking at. sure there are quite a few 'experienced' people here who would not use his services but by and large this is a community of people new to the sport.
  20. might get out saturday but I too have heard something about a West Arm trip next wknd that I am lookn forward to.
  21. nice pics & report that's some fancy flying on the water bomber pilot's part. thanks for putting that up.
  22. the gas comes from the same place. you will see imperial, suncor, etc trucks filling the tanks at many independant stations. ethanol actually increases the octane rating of gasoline. premium is likely to contain more ethanol. mix 10% into 89 octane and it becomes 91.
  23. legend baits and drifter tackle I'd say.
  24. i'd go barefoot but I forget to apply sunscreen on them so I usually just fish in socks until the cold weather arrives.
  25. Looks like we're following you around Lew.
