i too think there's a time and place for mono still. two situations where I think it is superior to braid are a] ice fishing (i know i know only ice in AZ is in your drink ) - unless you're in a heated hut, braid absorbs and holds water, freezes, and turns into an unmanageable mess on your reel. B] long lining trout in the spring. the stretch and springiness give the fish a better chance at hooking themselves. tried braid in this situation and it resulted in many dropped fish. I don't know if it's the way they hit or what, but I like mono in this situation.
