  4. I admit I don't completely understand the levels function either but do play around with it. Here is a link that explains it http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/levels.htm

interesting.. which one? should i be asking for royalties or at least a shore lunch & cerveza from darryl?
  8. i too think there's a time and place for mono still. two situations where I think it is superior to braid are a] ice fishing (i know i know only ice in AZ is in your drink ) - unless you're in a heated hut, braid absorbs and holds water, freezes, and turns into an unmanageable mess on your reel. B] long lining trout in the spring. the stretch and springiness give the fish a better chance at hooking themselves. tried braid in this situation and it resulted in many dropped fish. I don't know if it's the way they hit or what, but I like mono in this situation.
  9. did i mention it was nice to have ya back garry? excellent advice. spend as much as you can afford. as for the advice you rec'vd. the stradic is a great reel, i would consider a 2000 series reel althoguh the 2500 is a good all-round performer. if you're going to go with mono, i would pick trilene xt over xl if you plan on fishing in cover. it is a much tougher line and has less stretch than xl does. personally I am not a fan of fireline (find it frays too easily) and would suggest power pro or tuff line over it if you are going to go the braid route - the salesmen i beleive gave some bad advice there. i am not familiar with that rod. shimano's clarus or compre lines are good bets however. fenwick also has several rods in that same price range.

  12. Hi Garry! You must've heard us talkin' about you this wknd.
  13. too funny Paul. What about sheephead? Nice report. I like the look of the dark smallies too.
  14. The spoon will twist your line pretty good. I would suggest at least a quality snap swivel and attaching the lure to it. A mono or fluoro leader with a good swivel on one end and a snap on the other would be a good idea too.
  15. Congrats to you and Gillian Clive. I am sure it was a great moment and there'll be many more to come.
  16. You should be fine for a full day no problem..
  17. Who has room?
  18. we actually replace all the trebles on our minnowbaits with single siwash's for spring lakers. more to do with the quick release and well-being of the fish but the hooks are stronger. i honestly have not perceived a difference in hooking pct vs trebles.
  19. always doug. the 'stock' trebles on the raps don't hold up well. it probably wasnt your drag either, just the fish twisting the beejeebus out of the hooks.
  20. thanks for planting that seed (song) in my head.
  21. bring ear plugs in case... ahh nevermind.
  22. I'm with Lew, jig is not my style either. Spinnerbait is about the most versatile bait out there.
  23. that clock needs to be catapulted into orbit. you will feel much better, trust me now get another clock.
  24. I like braid for a lot of things just not ice fishn for the reasons mentioned. Maybe if I was a hut dweller it'd be a differnet story.
  25. Anywhere but your couch and OFC.
