Does this set precedent for other locations that have issues with littering and other fishing infractions? Man, why can't people respect the opportunities that we have before we lose more options.
-
Well, they passed the law that there is no night fishing on the Ganaraska in Port Hope from 8 pm - 6 am. Heard it on the radio this morning. I understand people were leaving carcasses, but don't salmon die naturally after spawning??? LOL I'm sure the other reasons included public urination, drinking and littering They said they were going to increase enforcement and if caught fishing, it will be a $150 fine. I'm sure it will increase if you're doing other illegal activities. Not sure I like these kind of moves.

The wetskin from Canadian Tire is a good one for occasional use. I did the research when I was looking and just could bring myself to purchasing the more expensive brands for what I do.

I caught a lm bass about a 2 weeks ago that got stung in the gill. I tried to let it go, but just laid on the surface and wouldn't recover in the livewell. I couldn't waste it, so I brought it home, filleted it, and sprinkled my special fish spice I brought home from St Martins on both sides. Left it over night in the fridge then prepared it as I do panfish. It was amazing. I sure hope that bass don't become the next table fair target though!

I just saw a guy was fined $2500 for taking one hen turkey out of season with a .22 calibre on private property. Karma was he got in a car accident leaving where he shot the bird and the police found the bird and his gun. I guess fish and birds aren't comparable.

Duck Blind? -
The administration involved in the fines and court costs was probably more than $1300.

Great news! -
I have been avoiding all Kawartha lakes and surrounding ones on the weekends (I live on one). It can get crazy out there. I did go out last night for a quick fish, thinking that most headed home. Wrong, I was standing quietly throwing a nice surface bait. I heard a boat coming my way and turned just in time to see a 18-20' cruise come within 10 yards at full throttle. I would have went over the side if I didn't sit myself down quickly. I did avoid Dalrymple, but thought about it when I drove by there. So, did you catch that bass?

Met a guy today who said he eats the musky he catches. ....
jimmer replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Muskie are always a hot topic. They are loved and abused at the same time. However, they are also one of the few native fish in the Kawarthas, so they should be protected to some degree in that area. Not sure who decided to stock them in Haliburton. Having a slot doesn't really cut it; my belief is that they are hoping that all muskie will be able to spawn at least once. However, if someone wants to eat or mount a legal fish, it's within their right to do so without prejudice. -
I try to do all my own repairs and oil changes, getting older makes it tougher, but I still try. I get more nervous when I have to bring a vehicle in with something I can't do, than when I get result from a medical test. No disrespect to the licenced guys on this forum, just had way to many bad experiences over the years. Oh, I also won a battle with a dealership in the 80's when I did my own oil changes and the release bearing went in my manual transmission. They didn't want to honour the warranty, because there was no record of oil changes with them. I just stood up to them and they honoured it, but what about the others that don't stand up to the dealer. This is what really gets me. I also wish that Dan would move his business east of Toronto and into the Kawarthas!

This can't be why the Freedom of Information Act was put in place. This guy's request is jeopardizing someone's privacy for gods sake. I can't believe the MNR has even gone along with it this far, unless they want to set a precedent like someone else mentioned and nip any future requests in the butt quickly. We're here for you Mike! -

I saw a report last week that a group did well with resident walleye. Just trolled the shorelines out in the reach.

Taking them out of cold water is the trick. I wouldn't eat a summer bass out of a shallow lake; taste like mud. My buddy likes cooking them with the skin on.

Finally checked out Mike's report on his trip. I hope the MNR doesn't reveal the locations to this guy, it could ruin that lake fairly quickly. -

The real sad part is that Mike just might stop sharing his adventures with the rest of us. What a jerk....... I wish the MNR would have told the guy where to go, which would be the proper response in my books. -
How about a category for "Thread Killer". I just mention that because I have a complex about being the last post on a thread.

That makes sense to me. I wasn't suggesting that minor offenses face jail time, but illegal netting, importing Asian carp, selling game fish, continued illegal action (limits or out of season fishing) could be threatened with jail time.
-
So, it's about making money and not necessarily protecting the resource??? That's sad and naïve thinking on my part I guess.

I couldn't even finish watching that. People are nuts and that guy was harassing them. Those guys showed a lot of restraint.
