Been a hot year for muskies in general. I have close to 30 in the boat so far this year. Close to a 3 fish a day average for me this year. And 3 over 50 this year alone on Kawartha lakes.

I love to hate topwater muskie. Love the strike but I always manage to have the craziest fish strikes that produces lost fish. Like last month when a 50"er torpedoed my weagle at mach 10 and lauched about 4ft out of the water 10ft from the boat edge. My hook up ratio it just terrible. I think I am somewhere in 2-30 range lol

Turns out there is not part number for the foot alone... It is considered non fixable and needs to be replaced. However since the 400 series is discontinued, there are not available chassis.

So, I think I may try to JB weld the bottom inside arch to see if that will stiffen it.

It is just a 400. I have 2 other TEs and they are all the same piece.

Just hope they can press them in. They are a pressed in rivet for sure.

Ya Lew... I have been there a few times this year. I have been trying to call them but I cant find their number. When I called shimano in Peterborough they transferred me to some place in Washington.

Does anyone know if the reel foot is replaceable of fixable?

Bent it on a large muskie the other day and the reel popped right off the rod. I have bent it back, but the next fish I hooked, it happened again. It is pretty awkward to say the least.

Bryer is nice, but their docks cannot handle a boat bigger than 17ft imo. My Lund Predator 2010 stuck out like 4 ft past the end of the docks. I tend to go to Wolseley Lodge, but Harold can be a little over the top on... well everything

I have yet to try Chaudière lodge. I have heard a ton of good stuff about it, but I usually do so well in Wolseley I have trouble leaving the area

I have stopped using the Muskie shop because of shipping rates. I have found Cabela's to stock almost anything I need muskie wise.... other than good leaders.

Sparrow once upon a time was a great fishing lake. Im sure it still is at times.

We have caught monster pike and muskie out of Sparrow. The walleye population seemed to dwindle but largemouth and smallmouth are abundant.

Interesting that outta 15 follows, only one fish committed.

 

Were they aggressive follows or only out for a look ??

Had a few instances where the muskie would follow to the boat inches from the lure and litterally bump the lure from behind mouth closed. I would say about 5 encounters like that. All on different spots. Mainly 30-40" fish. Another boat we met up with said they saw that too... kind of stumped.

The rest of the follows were all early morning; fish were fast at the lure by late on it then seemed to shy away from the boat. Between 7-8:30am. I chaulked it up to just missing a feeding window, but really not sure.

Biggest fish I have had on my line came just the other day on the French on a top raider.... lost her bait side. It was a terible feeling. I find to have a burtal hookup ratio with any topwater I throw, but I use them often because the action I get on them.

I was with a large group, between 40-50 at Wolseley Lodge 2 years ago...Everyone felt they were treated badly! I have never seen such bad treatment of guests anywhere.

 

We now go to Totem Point.

Harold did say that the large muskieCanada group is still going to stay at his place. We talked about it the first day we were there. Maybe he is confussed or maybe someone else changed their minds on the accomodations?

We had a good time up there, mainly because of the group of guys we met. Like I said, its a prime spot, but thats about all it has going for it. The updates he is doing is not adding to the accomodations. But he is re-shingling the roofs and building huge party decks on almost all the cabins. Still plywood walls and floors inside.

I find Harold difficult to talk to and a bit condicending. He likes to joke, but at your expense and has little to give back. The other group we met ran into and issue with the docking. They paid for a boat slip with power, but they didnt have enough space at the dock. It wasnt a big boat but Harold didnt want to move any boats to the other side. It took the entire day for Harold to finally move a boat so the other guys could park and charge their batteries. But not until he went into a rant about being too busy to look after the little problems.

As for fishing, the pike seemed to be over running the prime muskie spots for whatever reason. We caught about 35 pike on large baits, and managed about 15 muskie follows. We only got one fish in the net (a 43"er) in the last 30 minuted before we had to leave for home; so that saved the trip. But I have a sour taste in my mouth after loosing what would have been my new PB muskie boatside on thursday evening. I have caught enough 50" fish in my day to know this fish was well over that. That one is still an ouchy.

I always hit up the French.... maybe one of these days Im going to have plan a trip to West arm.... Youre consistancy out there makes me jelous Lew.

Its in a prime location. Thats what keeps me there. I have been there 8 years straight and some years more than once a season. I tried the Brier just up the river a little but the docking is not that great for my boat.

As for the fishing, I seem to always do well up there. Supprised Harold doesnt have any of our muskie pics up on his wall of fame.... but we do have a picture up there of a 90lbs sturgeon on my buddies lap we caught fishing for muskie.

Hope we get into one of the monsters I have seen in the last few years... and shes always on the same spot!!!

We I dont know about that. I have been fishing there for several years now and there is some awesome stuff around. I have fished through that area only to have moved a few fish. Maybe I just like fishing where there isnt any cottages lol.

But there are some good looking spots near by there.

There are spots that I make the 20minute trip for.... at 60mph.

I'm in a black 20ft Lund predator.

Ya, I made the mistake years ago not maxing out the boats max rated power. It might seem great the first few rides, but you quickly regret not maxing out.

Sweet ride for sure though.

I dont know with such a light weight boat that a 4 blade prop is going to give you the best performance. I would stick with a 3 blade IMO. Something with a decent amount of cupping for bow lift and to hold the water in a turn trimmed out. That light load with a 90hp shouldnt need a 4 blade. but if you have the oppertunity to test props, thats always a bonus.

Not sure about the Yami breakin either, but with my mercs, the max rpm changed once the motor broke in a bit, I would wait to see where your rpms settle in before choosing a prop.
