Carp replied to dsn's topic in General Discussion
Good to hear. It coincides with the Tyler G2G on L.Simcoe Feb 24th. -
I was reading about the show in the paper. Sounds like a great time. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

anyone built their own sled for ice fishing?
Carp replied to BFSC Kevin's topic in General Discussion
I collected a pile of old skis for making a sled or two. Cleaned out the garage and tossed most of them. I think I still have at least one set. One of these days I'll actually get off my tush and start a sled project. -
You're absolutely right Pete. The safest thing is to refrain from transporting "any" baitfish from the affected area, alive or dead.
-
I would think the fact that the minnows are dead plus the salt's disinfecting qualities would eliminate the virus from being transfered to live baitfish. From what I understand, MNR is concerned about transfering live baitfish only.

Welcome to the OFC family Lake Simcoe message board members. I'm actually a member too, but I only visit from time to time. This is my home at the OFC.

Speaking of Music - Anyone going to see Billy Talent?
Carp replied to Joey's topic in General Discussion
Enjoy the evening Jo. How about a report after the show ? -
ROCK, ROCK and did I mention ROCK ! Although I'll listen to anything....ONCE !!! Saw Deep Purple a couple of years ago in Toronto. They were great, even though Ritchie Blackmore (guitarist/songwriter) had retired and wasn't touring with the band. He's an unbelievable talent and I was disappointed he wasn't there, but the show was still great. I've seen Goddo in concert along with a bunch of other lesser known bands. Some bigger names too like Scorpions, Quiet Riot, Triumph (2x), Stones (2x), Paul McCartney, Black Crows, Deep Purple, and dare I admit I attended a Celine Dion concert (against my will). I'm exited to hear tickets for Heaven and Hell (AKA Black Sabbath) go on sale this Friday. Ronnie James Dio is doing the vocals in place of Ozzy Osbourne. One of the greatest rock vocalists in my opinion. He did a couple of albums with Sabbath. (Heaven and Hell / Mob Rules) Two of my favourites. I would have loved to have seen Queen, with Freddy Mercury. Dang AIDS. He was one of the best vocalists and entertainers in the business. Taken away from us far too soon. Iron Maiden put on a great show too. Disappointed I missed them last year. Bruce Dickinson is another amazing voice in the rock world. Would have loved to see Lynard Skynard before the plane crash took Ronnie Van Zandt, but if they roll into town again, I'll certainly be looking for tickets. (I think they were here recently) I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Underrated ? Hmmm ? I suppose there are many. None that pop out and bite me on the nose right now.

Speaking of Music - Anyone going to see Billy Talent?
Carp replied to Joey's topic in General Discussion
Not a Billy Talent kinda guy, but.... I hear Heaven and Hell (a.k.a. Black Sabbath) are coming to the Air Canada Center in Toronto. Megadeath and Down are the opening acts. Tickets go on sale this Friday. I believe the concert is in March. Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Vinnie Appice and Ronnie James Dio is doing the vocal thing. He's one of the best rock vocalists in my opinion. Dio did a couple of albums with Sabbath after Ozzy Osbourne left. They were Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. Yes, I have them both. Sorry Jo. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Sounds like you're a Billy Talent fan. Do you have tickets ? -
Ice fishing ? Hey, anything is better than working on "The List." Did I mention anything is better than working on "The List."
-
Hey, great news Sam. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Glad you had some co-operating fish. Keep at it.

Pirahnas chewing at your tinkle tinkle. Crocs/alligators snapping their jaws on your legs. Anacondas looking for a snack. Spiders the size of plates ready to sink their fangs into you and inject a little venom. Then, when the paralysis sets in, they'll drain some blood to satisfy a draculan thirst for the red nectar of life. Aw heck, if he can do it, so can I. .....and I can leap tall buildings in a single bound too.

Once again, your updates are much appreciated skevys01. Tanks much.

I knew it would be near impossible to take a decent picture with the kids if we got down to the stadium level to check out the trucks. That's why I didn't bother, but rather went to Parts Source in Mississauga to see the truck and driver. There were a few people hanging around, but we had opportunities to take as many pictures as we wanted with the truck. Inside, the Grave Digger driver, Randy Brown, signed personalized free souvenier pictures of the truck for the kids and jumped out of his seat in an instant when asked if we could get a photo with him. Very accomodating and seems like a genuine "nice guy." My right ear took a beating yesterday. The trucks were loud, but the kids behind me leaning forward and screaming just inches from my ear is what did the real damage. I think I might have some permanent hearing loss. The right ear has been kinda funny all day. Might have to go see our bud hearingfish and get it checked out.

I respect the decision to pull the thread. We should be doing this by e-mail/pm's. We have to understand and respect the heads of state not wanting the OFC name associated with this kind of thing. That's cool. Doesn't mean it can't happen at all. I wouldn't want to be involved in anything that could jeopardize the future of this site. It's a lot of work to create and maintain the OFC and our governing body has the right to be concerned for the reasons mentioned. Fishinonthebrain seems to be taking the bull by the horns on this one, so send him you e-mails and pm's as he has requested. We can have a decent game of cards without ruffling feathers.

Thanks for the info Gerritt. I'll see if I can figure it out, but right now, the bed is cold and waiting for me to warm it up.

I haven't watched a single game this season. Not really a huge american football fan. I'd rather watch the CFL. About the most I'll do is see some NFL highlites because I'm watching a sports program or the news. It would be nice if both teams in the championship could win, but we know that won't happen. I say " GO COLTS ! "

I attended the MONSTER JAM show at the Rogers Center today. My two oldest (5 & 7) are crazy for these monster trucks. When they first started mentioning the Monster Jam show was on T.V, I thought it was some sort of cartoon. It was a good time watching (and hearing) these powerful machines. I couldn't believe the decibal level. It was probably as loud a rock concert, but the noise just wasn't as consistent. Some kids had hearing protection on. Didn't help that we had front row seats and were about as close as fans could get. I managed a few pics, but the dust and smoke makes them look a little fuzzy. Oh yeah. A couple were just due to being a dorky photographer. This is one monster truck called Superman. .....and the fan favourite Grave Digger. The driver was O.K. His name is Randy Brown. We met Randy at an autograph signing in Mississauga last Thursday. Nice guy. He signed a couple of souvenier pictures and I snapped a couple of pics of him with the kids, but the high resolution I used doesn't allow me to load them on this site. I'm not very good at re-sizing. Well, that was my Sunday afternoon. Much better than working on "the list."

Thanks again for the updates skevys01. Good to know someone is looking out for the BOQ anglers.
-
Thanks for the report and pics Clampet. Nice that you got out, but walking on 2.5 inches of ice is just a wee bit too adventurous for my liking. I actually don't venture out on foot unless there's at least 5/6 inches and I usually follow someone who is heavier than me.
-
Welcome (welcome back ?) to our OFC family Mike. Congrats on the new rig. Sounds like a very nice boat and I'm sure it'll give you many years of adventures.

has anyone built their own ice hut/shanty/shelter before?
Carp replied to BFSC Kevin's topic in General Discussion
I'm working on it. Bought a permanent 8x8 ft. (plywood sides and roof) Roof needs re-design. Aspenite (wafer board) for a floor, but that has to go. Too thin and weak. I want to make it come apart in panels to facilitate storage and transportation. I'll post a pic if I ever get it ready for this winter. Good luck with the project.
