  1. It's getting bad all over, my step daughter was renting in the Church and Niagara area of St. Catharines, I was relieved when she moved, we take our dogs everywhere and I had to be super vigilant when we went for walkies there.
  2. At least my year end dividends were reinvested at bargain prices . ?
  3. Went to U of T, Sept 69, remember his passing , I loved the blues back then even, he was a local legend back then.
  4. Dried navy beans, couple of strips of bacon, brown sugar, molasses, ground mustard, diced onions, tomato paste, Worchestershire and water and voila, baked beans in a little over an hour in the Instant Pot.
  5. Some more Popa, just killing it here , probably IMHO one of the ten best blues guitarists out there playing today
  6. Put a small wind turbine on the roof and you would never have to charge it. ?
  7. Born 1950, grew up with the original Woodstock generation, Popa does the very best covers of Jimi's stuff
  8. One one the best things about modern hearing aids is that they link to your phone via blue tooth and you can talk hands free while driving, text messages are like email to me, notifications is turned off and I check them at maybe once a day, NO TEXT CONVERSATIONS for me ?
  9. Yes Coopers, great pics, both Coopers and Sharpies terrorize my feeders, most of the time ID is just an educated guess based on size. Years ago I had a Shrike hang around for a few days using the feeder as his personal buffet, that was kinda cool.
  10. The first thirty years of my life we were in a period of " Global Cooling " culminating in some pretty horrific winters in the 70's and some pundits forecasting a " Nuclear Winter " , next we entered a period a " Global Warming " with some pundits forecasting the melting of the polar icecaps and rising ocean levels, looking back on almost 70 years I see it as weather. ?
  11. Morgan Reilly is a keeper.
  12. Left overs tonite, made this in the Instant Pot last night, it is pretty hearty but a touch bland, I add a table spoon of chili powder and a teaspoon of cumin to the recipe and a squirt of sriracha to my bowl. Weight Watcher friendly especially if you sub turkey for the ground beef. https://www.skinnytaste.com/chunky-beef-cabbage-and-tomato-soup-instant-pot/
  13. At one time I built 4 blanks in that catalog as riggersticks GFL-108 -8F ... 9foot 8weight flyrod paired with a Ambassadeur 5500 and 12 pound test for spring shoreline trolling on Lake O and pickerel on Erie GFL-108-10F... 9foot 10 weight flyrod paired with a 6500 and 14 or 17 lb test , this was the same blank as the commercial Riggerstick according to Lorne GFL-108-12F..9 foot 12 weight flyrod paired with a 7000 Ambassadeur and 20 pound test, this was a Fenglass blank and Lorne marketed it as the "Kingstalker" as I recall in his catalog Also built the Fenglass SH 1262F 10 1/2 foot steelhead blank with a grip for a mooching reel loaded with 20 pound test that I ran in the riggers.
  14. Ran across this this morning, https://www.fishingtalks.com/fenwick-rod-catalog-1982-16901.html , in those days there was always a rod in process of being built, usually on the coffee table as I was single ? and frequent trips to L.G. Custom Tackle . A few guys here may be interested in the classic Fenwick Glass Rod Line up and the numbering system.
  15. The only permanent jobs today are unionized civil servants. ?
  16. Historically Canada's economy was built on natural resources as well, mining, pulp and paper, lumber and oil still a majour component of our economy compared to most industrialized countries. At one time newsprint was the sole economy of many towns , then the fall of the daily newspaper probably put more out of work than the fall of the auto industry.
  17. Got hauled off to see this guy last weekend, he was entertaining at an event at a group my step daughter belongs to, he really is a smooth singer and classy entertainer. I kept having flashbacks to the Dean Martin show of the sixties, half expected Foster Brookes to come out and do a drunk skit. Most here would not remember the airline pilot and the brain surgeon skit, classics.
  18. Might have been me, that exact thing happened to a buddy of mine, but it happened in the late 70's.
  19. where is this shop that only charges $60 a hour for labour ?
  20. Forget about lead near water where there is a chance of waterfowl ingesting it when feeding, heck, we even have to use steel on woodcock in a woodlot or field shooting waterfowl in grainfields miles from any waterbody.
  21. The big factor that no one is mentioning in the loss of manufacturing is the high price of electric power today , historically cheap power starting with the development of Niagara Falls was the drawing card here. I worked on an environmental assessment of the Nanticoke site before the power plant was built many years ago, watched as Stelco and others were drawn there for the power, that era is over.
  22. this seems to be working well at this point , time will tell https://cyberflixtv.xyz/
  23. You are never going to reduce the population enough by shooting them to have any effect on numbers but by being able to shoot them we will able to discourage them from colonizing sensitive areas and maybe reduce the breeding success by forcing them to abandon nests.
  24. Shot and cooked a Merganser ONCE?, these would be worse. I was 15 , mom wouldn't let me cook it in the house, had to do it outside, smart woman.
  25. They are harvesting the icewine now, probably the earliest ever, many years it is not cold enough till after Christmas.
