I bought a used Suzuki DF6 at a decent price that I intend to use for trolling and as an emergency backup. I haven't used it much yet and it took me a while to get it running right. But it seems to purr like a kitten now, once I found a tiny speck of dirt in one of the jets that I located only after taking apart the carb a couple of times. I do agree that parts can be a little tough to source, as Suzuki dealers seem few and far between compared to some of the other brands. Even Amazon doesn't carry as many Suzuki compatible parts as other brands. As a result, if I were to buy new and the prices were similar, I would likely pick a different brand. Something with more dealers (especially locally) and more parts availability.

I had set aside a Pescador by phone, but when I got there it wasn't in stock. So Al at Sail in Cambridge upsold me to the Radar 115. It was quite a bit more than I had planned to spend, but they cut me a deal. Don't be afraid to ask for a break on price. No one wants to keep a kayak over the winter. The Radar was shorter but wider. It had the better seat, more like a lawn chair. I sat in the Pescador too, it was also comfortable. But I'm 55 yrs old now and I am really beginning to appreciate things like a good seat. The days of sitting in a canoe all day or sleeping on the ground are over. I really like the Wilderness products, I don't think you can go wrong with them. I bought one of those Scotty gear head adapters and a Scotty rod holder. It's gonna work great. Good luck.

I just bought a Wilderness Radar 115. More options than I now what to do with such available options such as pedal and electric motor. But I just want to paddle. I had it up to Georgian Bay last weekend and it was great on the water. A super comfortable seat. You are not gonna win any speed races, but it is very stable and it tracks pretty good. Nice and wide at 34.5 ". It weighs 82 lbs. 10'8" long. I have a Ram 1500 with crew cab, so short box. With the tailgate down it hangs over a foot or two so I just strap it down and put a small flag on it. I haven't fished with it, but so far I'm pleased with it. Andy

I have a two bank Minn Kota that I have mounted in a front compartment for my two Interstate trolling batteries.The batteries, boat and charger were bought new by the first owner in 2006 and I bought it second hand with the original batteries in it about 6 or 7 years ago. The batteries are still going strong, although one of the banks doesn't always switch to a charged state unless I unplug it and plug it in again. I'm not sure if it's the battery or the charger, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Minn Kota. I can run my trolling motor pretty good over a weekend and I think that I'm doing pretty good to get 10 yrs plus out of a set of trolling batteries. Andy

I have a 2012 Ram 1500, crew cab, hemi, SLT model. It has been an awesome truck. Great power when you need it, gets 28 mpg on long trips that mix town and country. Fuel economy really shines on the 401 where the RPMs seem to find their sweet spot. (And you're not spending too much time in the right lane.) The ride can't be beat. I was always a GMC guy. Now I would likely consider the Ford number 2. It has a flat floor and an amazing amount of room in the back of a crew cab.

Yes, I've had a few scary rides in as well when I swear a storm that I thought had missed me curls around. Ya feel pretty lonely out there when the clouds get dark and the wind really starts to blow.

There are musky in South Bay. But they elude me almost all the time. I stay at Nipissing Lodge. A great place to stay. I have a 16.5 foot StarCraft with a 90 hp Optimax. I fish the Gull Rock shoals for pickerel most of the time. I just came back from a weekend there and marked, and caught, lots of fish on the endless shoals. Two keepers. But there are days when the wind keeps you off the open water. That's when you fish amongst the islands.I spent a couple of hours on a large, beautiful weed bed in South Bay and saw a big fish surface four times around the edge of the weed bed. It was huge, definitely not a bass or anything like that. It was just tormenting me. I have seen Musky Hunter and Fish Finder episodes where they troll the shoals in open water for musky. Years ago I had a huge fish on trolling the Gull Rocks, but I messed up. The fish straightened out a hook and that was all she wrote. You really need two guys on the boat when trolling those shoals. One guy to manage the rod, the other guy should have his eyes glued to his electronics as there are some nasty rocks just under the surface in that area. I have actually only landed a few smaller musky there myself. But I have seen fish over 40 inches landed by a fellow from the US who used to fish the islands in South Bay every fall. He would show up every September on the week of a full moon, head out with a bag lunch at 6:30 am and you wouldn't see him at camp again until dark. There were trips he didn't land a fish. But other trips he would land four or five big fish. Not being as dedicated, I usually give up after half a day and cast for bass or look for pickerel again. It's a beautiful area and I love going there. If you have never been, I would highly recommend that you go and have a look for yourself. As I mentioned, I stay at Nipissing Lodge. Good facilities including good docks, which is so important to guys with boats. Andy

I have both reels and I have to say that I find the 400D to be the most uncomfortable baitcasting reel that I own when it comes to palming the reel. It's so undersized on the palming side that my fairly large hand envelopes too much of the reel. The whole reel seems so off balanced on the rod. I actually find the 400B to be a far more comfortable reel to use. Maybe I'm just not used to the 400D. It is a smooth reel, and the handle design and outside star drag are nice enough, but that's about it from what I can see. I can't really notice much difference in casting distance when using lures weighing an ounce or more. And I didn't think that I would care, but having to remove three slotted screws to adjust the casting brakes seems odd for a reel that costs that much. Anyone else kinda scratching their heads about the 400D?

I've successfully used JB Weld to fill holes and dents in metal, never to try and piece together two parts. I would just put the skeg guard on. That's what I did when I broke off a piece of my skeg years ago. If you don't have enough skeg left without the broken piece, I would get it fixed by a welder. That being said tho, I suppose there is no harm in trying, you only out a few bucks if it doesn't work.

I have Folbes. Ordered them from the US. Cabelas (US) and Rollie and Helens had them. I have both the bigger and smaller sizes for musky. I prefer the smaller one overall. Compact and tough, doesn't rattle and it holds your average handle like TDRs nicely. If you have oversized handles like some Shakespeare Tiger rods, you need the larger size.

Deepwater Horizon, Hacksaw Ridge. Both real life events, great effects. Really enjoyed them both.

I know what ya mean re; lures and pike when fishing for bass. I have used a braided line on my pike spinning rod set up, but the brand I tried was too noisy for my liking so I went back to mono. I may try Spiderwire Stealth braid on my spinning outfit as I use it on my heavy baitcasters and it's one of the quietest braids I've used. What I've started using on bass lures in pike waters is micro leaders. For example, Cabelas.ca has Danielson thin wire leaders. They come as light as 12 lb test and only 5 inches long. I think that these leaders have less impact on a bass lure than a piece of heavy mono or flouro. You may need to replace them more often than heavier wire leaders, and a big pike can pop open the smaller snaps if you horse it in, but's it an option that I like. Or make you own thin wire leaders out of something like that Knot2Kinky stuff in a light test with whatever size snaps and swivels you want, although I find it a bit awkward to work with.

A Google search shows that StarCraft and Smokercraft merged in 2006. Sylvan is part of that group too. And I believe other companies occasionally use hull designs from other companies. I think Smokercraft built the hulls for Legend at one point. And certain companies like StarCraft have had a number of owners over the years. I had a 15.5' Smokercraft. A great little boat. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, but it would depend on price. Not up to the standards of some companies. I have a 16' StarCraft with a walk thru windshield and it's a very solid boat. 90 hp Optimax. Unless I do something really stupid, it should last me my lifetime. It's decent with three adults, four is too many for a full day on the water. I have a friend who owns a camp. He has a Smokercraft and a Lund. The Lund is definitely the better boat, but costs more. He had a Princecraft. I thought it was better than the Smokercraft, but less than the Lund. I tend to place Lund at the top, StarCraft and from what I've heard Alumacraft as close behind. Then Princecraft. Legend, Smokercraft, Sylvan come after. No experience with Crestliner. Good luck.

I find it scary because like Old Ironmaker said , it can cause more damage than a pellet gun or .22 at close range and no licensing is required. And from what I can see, at 450 fps it's considerably more powerful than the old fashioned crossbow. And don't get me wrong, I too find our firearms regulations completely screwed up. Like you said, it's hard to get an answer from the people who should know. As an example, replica firearms that can't fire at all are prohibited under the Criminal Code. Yet air soft hand guns that look identical to a real hand gun with an fps of up to about 360 fps can be bought at Canadian Tire or online without issue.

In my view, it's firearm. That's going by the definition of a firearm in the Criminal Code. There is a reason that they kept the power at 450 fps. It's like all pellet guns that are 450 fps or under, you don't need a licence to buy it. I find it a little scary though. An arrow will sure do a lot more damage than a pellet at that velocity.
