The boat is rated for 40 hp. It's a 16' aluminum.

I suppose I could build the transom up. I'm shy by 7" or so. as for removing a section, not sure if that motor has that. How can I tell if it does? thanks

Has anyone tried a jack plate ? Someone on i-boats recommended it.

I measured 22" from bracket to cavitation plate... transom is 16" - so definetly too long..

So it is a 20" shaft, therefore long?

Anyone want a 2000 Johnson 25hp ?! Otherwise a nice clean engine... electric start...

Darn. Can I use this on my current set up ? The other motor is a short shaft. Or is this not possible?

Well I hope It does have a charging system... here is a pic of the motor I am going to pick up soon: Also, when it comes to tanks I know that metal tanks have that classic durability to them but some of the used ones I've shopped for online seem to have surface rust in many cases. I'm concerned that rust might be internal as well. I came across this plastic tank that seller has a fuel line for a merc but says I could switch out the line for an omc and it should be compatible with the Evinrude. Here's the pic of the tank. Is it a compatible tank as long as I get the right fuel line? Thanks for the help, guys!

I'm looking at two engines. Both early 80s models and both OMCs and equal hp. The electric start is $250 more (without tank and hose). The manual comes with tank/hose. Is the electric start worth the extra money? Do they tend to break down and require more repair? Less reliable? I'm just thinking manual might be more reliable because there's less to break down. Electric is nice and convenient though. Thoughts? Thanks

hey folks, where can I launch on the west side of Simcoe and specifically Cooks Bay for free? I remember there being a mediocre launch near Gilford.. my boat is smallish (16') so ism't too hard to launch... thanks

One of the best motors (most reliable) I've ever owned was a 1960 envinrude fastwin. That was 15 years ago so that motor was close to 50 years old.

What are your thoughts on the 1960s Johsons/Evinrudes?
