  1. jimmer, thanks. I get up there this Sat. Im hoping that the cool weather translates into a few lakers on the line.
  2. Thanks, I've got a few 3 way rigs ready to go. Have you had any luck with perch or muskie on Kennisis?
  3. I'll be staying with the family on kennisis lake in 2 weeks and was hoping you all might have some insight into fishing this lake. I've spent a few weeks later in the summer on Redstone and never saw anything but small mouth. Tried looking for lakers down deep but never got a bite and I suspect this may have been due to the warm water in August(and me a newbie lake trout fisher). Whats the best way to try and get into the lakers during June?. Also what is the prospect of finding perch, walleye ect.. as bass season does not begin until the 22nd. Thanks for any help. -Adam
  4. Trying to plan our trip up to Red Stone lake next year. We typicality make it up mid summer and by then the trout have gone deep and stopped biting. What is the best time to go in the spring and fall? Right now im leaning towards September. What do you guys think?
  5. BWT I have a chart of the lake i picked up in 2009. Unlike lower buckhorn lake where I know right where to fish this lake is relatively new for our family.
  6. thanks! I was up there about 2 years ago and we caught a lot of smallies. Today I picked up a rig similar to a large crappie rig and several hookless spoons to hook up on the top and bottom with swivels. I was then thinking about hooking up a leader to the middle hook to trail the bait about 6 inches behind the rig. What size of hook is preferred for lakers? Im thinking this would be like a small gangtroll rig. The cottage were staying at is on redstone and close to the entrance to little redstone.
  7. Thanks for the reply I will take a good look at the lures that jonnyb suggested. I've bee fishing since I was a kid but I'm new to lakers so I know it might take a little work.
  8. Was up at Redstone lake a few years back in July trying to find my first laker. I know that summer can be tough and was fishing with a 3way swivel set up and minnows at around 40-50ft deep. unfortunately we had no luck all week and ended up bass fishing just to put fish in the boat. Im heading up with the family this August 6th and would like to take another go at it. Any suggestions? Because I didn't have any luck last time its kind of a mission this year. Id even be willing to take someone out with us to show us the ropes for an evening of fishing.
  9. One more question about Redstone, are there any good resorces online that track average water temp on that lake? Trying to get a feel for what it will be like come July. If any of you know first hand, let me know. I know Lower Buckhorn heats up really fast due to shallow water, and since Redstone is much deeper I'm trying to get a comparison. Thanks.
  10. Thanks, Looks like we will be at Redstone this coming July. This will be our first time fishing for Trout, and I can't wait.
  11. Looking at taking the family somewhere new this year for a lot of fishing and fun on the water. For 30 years we have fished the Kawarthas and loved it, but this year i want to explore somewhere new. How does the fishing compare on Redstone and Kennisis lake? We typically spend about 75% fishing and the rest wake-boarding and tubing. Any insight would be great, as we are looking at places on both of these lakes. Thanks
