Sounds like fun. I'm in.

Local Brook Trout guru and friend Gord Ellis posted this on his fb page today, and with his permission... Well, I'll let the picture do the talking.

Then you shoulda signed Alfie. The greatest hockey player in the history of the universe. I think Alfie left Ottawa just because of you.

I really want to see Kadri on the team this year. But his contract expectations are way off. He came into the shortend season on fire, but he was already in shape from playing for the Marlies since the season started. No other Leaf had that advantage. He scored a couple of hat tricks. Great. But when the rest of the league caught up with him (in the playoffs) HE WAS A NO SHOW. The kid has 99 NHL games under his belt and he is demanding a Phil Kessel like contract. Not gonna happen in Toronto.

Some might suggest that there's a big difference between training camp and the actual season, when they start playing for keeps, which starts Oct. 1.

Well it is undeniable that the Leafs will be talked about here, so I've edited the title to make it a Leafs thread. Anyone not interested simply does not have to click. Any Leafs topics posted eslewhere will either be moved or deleted at the moderators discretion. Fair enough?

Bottom line here is that everyone is happy with their brand of choice. Clearly your $15.00 polarized glasses from walmart can be beat, but I don't think that you need to spend 2 or 300 bucks on a pair either. For the record, I'm a fan of Skeleton Optics. Zeiss lenses, and when on sale are dirt cheap. Look them up and get on their email list. Lots of 50% off sales which will get you a set of good glasses for about 50 bucks.

If I'm looking at that correctly Roy, and I think I am, I'll be running some ducts right down that aisleway.
-
Well you are a man well connected with things Roy. I'm impressed.

Brookies and Grouse. September 15th. One of my favourite days of the year.

Times have changed CPH. The old hatchery is still intact and in fact still houses the brood stock Brookies. The facility that I'll be working at is brand new and right around the corner. Come hell or high water I will be making my way over to the old facility to see what goes on in the brood stock Brook Trout holding grounds. Being so close to egg stripping time, I'm gonna do my best to be over there to catch some of that.
-
I am Roy. That is exactly what I'll be doing there. Curious. How do you know about this?

Found this shot from a few years back. Pretty much a twin. No weight taken.

I know it's a long weekend because I looked at my calender.

It's a man made lake that was stocked with fish that didn't belong there in the first place from what I'm reading. An aquarium. You can put whatever you want in an aquarium as long as the conditions will support it.

Today we had our "start up meeting" at the fish hatchery in Dorion Ont. Much of it was in an office environment going over legal stuff. Making sure that all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed. When that was finished, we went for a tour of the actual job site. I wasn't sure just by looking at the drawings for the job, but it is in fact right over all of the fibreglass fish tanks. Bingo!! A couple things surprised me. First of all, it was quite dark in the tank room. I was instructed that any lighting that I need would have to be placed on the floor below the tanks and aimed at the ceiling. I'm not sure if they try to simulate actual outdoor lighting, but it was quite dark for the time of day that I was there. Second thing was cleanliness and sanitizing. We had to wash our hands with disinfectant and also had to step on a spongy pad with our boots to disinfect our feet. Makes sense I suppose. It wasn't long through our tour that I explained to the manager, who came here from Peterborough when the plant opened in 08, that I was pretty much obsessed with Brook Trout. I showed him a few photos on my phone and then he pretty much took me under his wing and started showing me parts of the hatchery that had nothing to do with my job there. He showed me the egg disinfecting room, which will be used in the next month or so. He showed me they're oxygen producing facility and explained it in detail. He told me that he had a fin clipping crew coming in next week. I think that we're going to get along just fine. Becaused it was dark in the tank room, I couldn't tell what I was looking at, except for the brood stock Laker tanks. They were pretty big. 15 to 20 lbs. I'd guess. He explained how they had 6 different strains on Lake Trout on site. "Seneca" is the only one I remember right now. Anyways, as I head into the twilight of my career, this might become my favorite job ever in 36 years that I've been in my trade. I'm sure that I'll get some decent pictures as the job progresses. It's about a 3 month job. And Brook Trout egg stripping is right around the corner. Can't wait!!

My LCD recently crapped out on me, so I did some research (on a tv junkie forum, not on a fishing forum) and ended up with a Panasonic plasma. The die hards there liked plasma probably 10 to 1 over LCD/LED. That surprised me a bit, but that's the way I went and I'm very happy with my choice.

Brand names that have stood the test of time for me. Too often have I bought a crankbait from an unknown manufacturer that looks great in the package but runs like crap out of the box.
