  1. They're out of control up here Joey. Darn things are everywhere and nobody fishes for them. Seriously. I can't remember ever hearing anyone that I know saying that they're "going for bass" this weekend. Or Pike for that matter. There's tons of both up here but few people target them.
  2. Sensible reply RAF. Thanks.
  3. The difference, as I see it Rick is that OOS fish are most likely spawning, congregated and vulnerable. An out of slot fish can be caught at any time during the open season, and it's immediate release is less of a concern. Legal or not, release any OOS fish asap without a photo IMHO. If there's any time that we should not bother them, it's when they are reproducing. The future of fishing depends on it.
  4. Geez. A new sharpie and a pack of paper should cost about 5 bucks or so. You could make 1000 signs with those tools.
  5. Personally speaking, I wouldn't want a picture of an OOSF caught by me. It was (most likely) caught accidentally and really means nothing. There is a reason that they are OOS. Usually because they are big fish and they spawning and congregated to very specific areas and they are very vulnerable. In other words, easy to catch. Keep the cameras in the tackle box and let them go asap.
  6. Geez. You two certainly put your time in and are rewarded for it. That's at least half the battle. Congrats on a fine fish and for your persistence. And yup, it's a Steelhead.
  7. You said it GbayGiant. I play (for fun) several times per week and I don't think that there's such a thing as a good poker player. Just a lucky one.
  8. I remember Black Cat gum, but not Black Jack. I also remember when doctors made house calls.
  9. Definitely go with solid pipe over flex, but going aluminum is an unnecessary expense. Galvanized pipe will last a couple of decades at least at a much cheaper cost. I took apart and cleaned the lint out of my galvanized dryer vent last summer and after 18 years, it's as good as new. A tinbanger friend of mine told me to do this.
  10. I'll be getting a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. I've done my research and this is the one that I want. I have to wait to see how our contract vote goes first though. April 21st. I don't want to spend that kind of money and then find myself on the picket line a week later. We'll see how it goes.
  11. I won't be getting an H9 anytime soon Roy. I've got my mind set on a rather expensive GPS at the moment. I like my electronic toys. Darn microchips anyways!!
  12. Sony's newest "H" series camera is due out soon, the H9. 15x optical zoom amongst other bells and whistles.
  13. Cork liners on the inside of a bottle cap.
  14. Sweet looking fish and a fantastic report Tom. Until your last report at this lake, I wasn't aware that there were stocked Rainbows in the area. They'd fill a frying pan nicely. Too bad you fell asleep so early last night though. You missed the best COPS episode of the year.
  15. I thought Ricochet played a good game for the Habs. I didn't watch, but I heard his name mentioned lots while I was listening.
  16. Al this drama for a team that hasn't actually made the playoffs yet. And if they do, they'll get their butts kicked in the first round anyways. And for the record, I'm a Leafs fan. Or at least I try to be.
  17. You did OK chilli. Besides the pressure switch, that would have been my guess. I stayed out of the conversation because of the safety concerns of offering trouble shooting advice to gas burning appliances over the internet. I would have tried to light the pilot light or burner with a match and if it indeed lit up and ran through a cycle, then there's your problem. The problem with newer high efficient furnaces is that there's lots to go wrong with them. And repairs aren't cheap. $200 isn't too bad I suppose. Have a warm, safe night.
  18. I'm not sure how you'd apply, but the forest fire fighting business is booming in Northwestern Ontario, and with no end in sight. We have had almost no snow this winter and talk of a very busy fire season has already started. Check with the MNR. That's who you'd be working for.
  19. Like TJSA mentioned, Bald Eagles are a dime a dozen up here. I've seen as many as 20 in a quarter mile stretch on a river during the fall Salmon run. But I never get tired of seeing them. They are an awesome bird.
  20. So does this mean that you can only pick Smoke 3 more times this year?? :clapping:
  21. Nice shots Joey. You'd better run and hide!! Here's a few shots taken literally minutes ago from the door of my house. We're supposed to get up to 25 cm's on this white stuff by Thursday with winds up to 70 km's/h. Yuck...
  22. Cabelas brand rod holders here. But then again, practically everything that I use is Cabelas brand. Good quality. Good service. Good price. Good warranty. What more can you ask for??
  23. Nice report Joey. I can't wait for my first open water trip of the year..
  24. Personally I've never tried braid. Probably never will. Mono works just fine for me.
