Catch and release at its finest. Nice work Rick.

I've been ordering from Cabelas since the 70's. I've never had a bad experience yet. Even if something goes wrong, they fix it and fast.

Beauty report Chris. And I'm very happy to hear that you got out. Those are some nice fish for your area.

Amazing talent Pam. I agree that it's one of your best yet. Keep them coming.

Here's a couple of news articles that were in a local weekly newspaper today. Incredible.. Wayyy over limit Fish left to rot

I didn't see "none" listed in your poll so I didn't vote.

Where'd ya hear that nonsense???

That's a done deal MB. And just a few notes about fishing barbless. I never attempted fishing barbless before it became law on my local waters. I urge all of you to give it a try. I can think of only one or two fish that I might have lost because of barbless hooks. But then again it just might have been my own fault. Most of the time the hook just falls out in the net, or with a small twist of the hook with a pair of pliers at boatside if you're not using a net. All of Manitoba has been barbless for quite some time now. I think it's time for Ontario to get on board. There is an argument that barbless hooks actually penetrate deeper and cause more damage, but personally, I don't buy that. Any other opinions??

Congrats you two. Your enthusiasm speaks volumes. Those who work hard will be rewarded. Awesome photos too!!

Yes Wayne. The entire lake is barbless. The note that you mentioned is the definition of the area, except you didn't put Lake Nipigon in the quote. Below is copied from the regs. Lake Nipigon - all tributaries up to the first barrier to migration, all waters on the islands and Forgan, Bonner, Little Bonner and Jackpot Lakes. No possession of live brook trout or lake trout. Brook trout catch and possession limit of one (1), which must be greater than 56 cm(22 in.) in length, conservation licence limt of zero (0).Single barbless hooks must be used all year.Artificial lures must be used when angling through the ice.

I was thinking that maybe I could take you out for a day but I don't think that I can make any promises. One important rule not listed by tjsa is that Lake Nipigon is totally barbless. Good luck with your quest and give us a report if you make it out.

Left hand retrieve for a spinning reel and right hand for a bait caster. I don't know why that is, but I'll bet that it is the popular answer on here.

Very nice machine Lew. I'm sure that you'll love it. It looks like a great choice to me. Add me to the list of new GPS owners too. But I chose a hand held unit so I could use it for my hunting excursions in the fall as well as for the boat. I chose a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX. I'm having fun with it already around the yard. And I'd also like to thank douG for his advice. It seems like he's the guy to talk to about GPS's.

Lake Trout fishing is fairly typical up here. Flat lining in the spring and downrigging during July and August. They can often be found up shallow on rocky reefs in September.

I'm just a hobbyist douG. But I erred on one of the new Sony H9 specs. ISO up to 3200. Not 1600. I don't know how useful it will be, but it's there. I predict that the H9 will be THE prosumer camera to own until Canon catches up with it, which will be soon no doubt. The Canons are incredibly popular. Funny thing is that some of Canons most critical components are made by Sony, whereas Sony has no Canon components in them. There was mention of the glass that Sony uses in its cameras. They use Carl Zeiss glass. World class. Good luck with your choice douG and let us know what you chose. You really can't go wrong with any of the choices with the high end camera makers. And most of all, let's see some pics!!!

Exactly what date in late May are you looking at??

Conclusion - Pros * Excellent resolution & sharp results * Good, natural color and excellent exposure * Superb 12x optical zoom * Smooth, almost stepless 2-speed zoom * Effective image stabilization * Small and light, but well built * Comprehensive range of controls * Very fast operation * Fast (and accurate) focus using 'High Speed' option * Well designed menu system * Nice handling and improved controls * Easy to use * Bright, clear, high resolution LCD screen * Excellent EVF, big improvement * Decent burst mode and fast card writing * Powerful flash * Excellent battery life * Good movie mode * Usable raw mode (approx 3 second shot-to-shot with a fast card) * Powerful raw convertor (SILKYPIX) included * Lots of in-camera image adjustments * Superb value for money Conclusion - Cons * Some areas of performance actually worse than predecessor * Noise is, as usual, a bit of a problem at lower ISO settings * ISO 400+ noise reduction produces color bleeding and loss of low contrast detail * Default noise reduction too high at all ISO settings (use low NR setting) * Limited dynamic range, highlight clipping in JPEGs * Default contrast a bit on the high side * Occasional (mild) fringing * Occasional focus hunting at long end of zoom in low light and in macro mode * Slight video lag in live preview makes very short shutter lag rather pointless That's pretty much the same pros and cons as the high end Canon and Sony cameras. I'd be a little concerned about the #1 con on the list. Have they taken a step backwards? Have a look at the new Sony H9 that has just been released this week. 8 MP's, ISO up to 1600 and 15x optical zoom for about $500.00. Of course there's no review for it yet as it's just been released.

Some moist wipes. They're not just for babies anymore.

Very nice report and photos TJ. Thanks for sharing.

Oh no. That's not the update that I was hoping for Sam. All I can hope for at this point is that she gets her trip to Disney World. And thank you Sam for your efforts. I don't know what else to say....

When you are fishing the entire day down wind from TEP.
-
And... why aren't you out fishing tonight? It sounds like the run will be in full swing this weekend. Or are you still ice fishing? My Steelheading doesn't start until June so I have a ways to go yet.
-
I hear ya Tom. A crowded pool up here is one with more than one person fishing it. And although there's closed seasons for Brook and Lake Trout, Steelhead are open year round so there's no "opener" to look forward (or not) to.

I'm always looking for deals on E Bay and have bought about 50 items so far. I've bought everything from tools to work and casual clothing, lots of Nascar goodies, and even a few fishing and hunting related items. No bad experiences so far. I like E Bay!!
