Hi Everyone My son and I just got back from our Kawartha trip . We fished Buckhorn , Pigeon and Sturgeon during the week . The weather was 80 the first couple days then in the 50's and dropped down over night Wednesday to 29 we had frost on our boat seats . Several days we had winds over 10 mph making it a little rough fishing .We boated 4 Muskies had 14 hits and 7 follows we only count hits if we see its a Muskie and most of them were near or at the boat . We had a couple follows from bigger fish but most were slow and behind the baits a ways . Only 1 caught trolling a 35" er we usually boat 5-8 during the week trolling while eating our lunch or taking a break from casting . We took a good Canadian friend out fishing with us 2 days but he didn't have any luck . The last day I got lucky and caught a 44"er put up a good fight and even jumped clear out of the water . It also cost my son some $$$ I got big fish of the week .I hope I'm able to make the trip next year I'll be 80 and its getting hard to cast those Muskie baits all day LOL . I also caught 4 Walleyes and 2 bigger LM on my Muskie lures 2 of the walleyes were 25" . Tight Lines Hank Flory Jr

My son and I have been to Lunge lodge on several trips . We were after Muskies but boated lots of Pike and Walleye . It is a nice place to stay and plenty of good spots to fish . If you decide to go send me a email I think I still have some maps of the areas we fished and there are several bays where you can catch Big Pike . Tight Lines Hank Flory

Hank Jr replied to BassMan11's topic in General Discussion
My son and I are heading up to the Kawartha's in Sept going to fish Buckhorn , Pigeon , Sturgeon and Balsam . I'm going on 80 so my son will have to do most of the work . I still enjoy Muskie fishing just getting a little harder casting them BIG lures LOL Tight Lines -
Some guys from NY who I helped 15 years ago when they first start fishing the Kawartha's send me a report and pictures when they get up to Canada . They Fished Sturgeon lake for Muskies 4 days and had a good time 10 Muskies in the boat 5 of those were 40" or bigger several big follows the only bad news is they also caught 3 Pike . A Canadian friend I met 20 years ago was also on Sturgeon with his wife a day last weekend . His wife out fished him again from the back of the boat with a 43" er , he lost one at the boat and had several follows they also caught 2 Pike . He said I could post his wife's picture with her fish it's a nice one . Hank Jr

My son and I haven't been up to the Kawarthas for several years because of Covid and my son started a new job so no vacation time . I also had some heart problems . We only got out 4 days last week because of the wind and rain . We fished 2 days on Pigeon and 2 days on Sturgeon . We boated 3 Muskies had 7 follows and 4 hits from Muskies . We only count hits if we see the Muskie . One 34" er and 2 follows came from 2 1/2 ft of water in a stump and down timber shore line we fish . Some of our favorite weed edges we couldn't fish with 8 -12 mph winds . Thursday and Friday were a lot better weather wise . My son did a good job taking care of his old Dad on this trip I spent a lot of time setting instead of casting . We had a fun time and I hope we can make a trip next year . Good luck to everyone when you get out . Here is my sons first fish on Monday from Pigeon . Hank Jr

We saw the most fish on spinners but single blades out fished the double 8's and 10's color didn't matter . The big fish we saw were on bull dogs , medusala's , glide and jerk baits . My son's fish came on a all black medusala . With the cold front we did down size on most of our lures . We only caught one trolling we usually catch between 5 -8 trolling during our week when we eat our lunches or I need a break from casting my son doesn't like to troll . We caught fish in 2 ft -14 ft mostly deep edges but some off rocks and weeds .

Just got back from 6 days of Muskie fishing in the Kawartha's . My son and grandson and I fished Balsam , Pigeon and Sturgeon . The weather was tough high winds and a big cold front hit all week . Tuesday it was 75 by Thursday with the wind chill was 29 degrees . We had a OK week boated 9 Muskies saw 22 others with follows and hits at the boat we only count hits if we see it is a Muskie . My grandson caught his first Muskie 34 1/2" my son won big fish of the week with a 43" er from Pigeon cause me $10 . Of the follows 5 were nice fish probably 40" or bigger . With winds 10 mph and gusting to 18 mph there were a lot of our regular spots we couldn't fish . My grandson learn how to cast and work most of the different type Muskie lures I'm sure he will be back chasing Muskies again . Here is my sons fish .

Fishing in Mississauga and Balsam Lake HELP!
Hank Jr replied to philosothicc's topic in General Discussion
You should be able to catch some fish on Balsam . Right up the shore line from the park is a bay try the deep edge in 10 -12 ft you should do OK with Pike , Walleye and Bass . Try casting some spinners Mepps Agiala's #4 or #5 . Good luck let us know how you do . We also do better on the weed edge across from the park .- 16 replies

Lunge Lodge is in a good location and offers both bring your own food or American plan . Your boat will be fine there are plenty of islands and bays to fish . Good luck.
