  1. Does anyone know of a public launch on the north end of Lake Scugog? Does Pleasant Point Park have a launch? Thanks for any help!
  2. Go to Walmart and buy a set of 27 series Everstarts. You probably won't get the run around if they die prematurely and they don't cost much.
  3. I use a lot of shimano rods and the lifetime warranty and customer service is the #1 reason I continue to use them. I have had a number of rods replaced or repaired. The only downside is that it can take a few months to get a rod replaced depending on the model.
  4. Send Mark an email, he can probably hook you up. [email protected] Hands down the best dropshot baits on the market. Every single bait is individually poured and packaged by hand.
  5. Buy a set of everstarts from walmart. They cost about 90 bucks each, you'll get 15 bucks back for each of your old ones, and chances are they won't jerk you around if one of them dies early. You're only running 27's so theres no real need to drop 165 bucks. I've learned my lesson on that.
  6. Thanks for the input. Never saw it last year in Canal so I was curious.
  7. I fished Canal Lake yesterday and today and noticed a fair amount of dead pan fish throughout the lake. Mostly sunfish, crappies, and rock bass. Some were dead on the bottom, most were on the surface. Some looked to have be dead for a while, while others were still kicking. Water temps were anywhere from 52-58. Anyone know what's going on?
  8. I've fished out of a couple 16' smokercrafts in the past and was really impressed. They are built like tanks! Never been in a princecraft so I can't comment. Best of luck with your purchase!
  9. Don't get too caught up in trying to find the boat with the widest beam. Some of the best handling rough water boats have a narrow beam, and not a beam-forward design. A 2x4 will cut through the water better than a 2x6 right?
  10. If anyone is interested I have an open seat in my boat for Friday June 3. 8am-3pm or so, meet somewhere near Orillia. Will probably hit up Couchiching or one of the smaller lakes in the area for some Pike. If you're interested shoot me a PM with your cell #. I got everything we need, just chip a few bucks for gas and possible launch fee. -Drew
  11. If you put gloves on to pump gas, bye bye man card. (I've seen it done, for real).
  12. Well... If you're really looking at buying 6-8 combo's heres a list with some explanations... may put you in the right direction, but others will be along with their advice. 1. (1 or 2) 7' med fast spinning rod - dragging tubes, dropshotting, light jigs, etc 2. (1 or 2) 6' 6'' or 7' med hvy fast spinning rod - jerk baits, light cranks, topwater poppers, heavier tubes, jigging spoons, etc 3. (1 or 2) 7' med heavy moderate baitcast rod - crank baits, spinnerbaits 4. 7' - 7'6'' heavy fast baitcast rod - flipping and pitching 5. 7' med heavy fast baitcast rod - misc rod - heavier cranks, spinnerbaits, topwater, carolina rigs, etc... Just an idea of what you might want to consider. As for brands, there's lots of good stuff out there. Personally, I mainly use crucial rods with stradic spinning reels and revo baitcast reels and have been happy with them.
  13. I drove past the narrows at 6:00pm today. Ice has filled up in the narrows on the Simcoe side. The ice didn't look too thick, but there was lots of it. The docks are in at the ramp across from Tudhope Park on the simcoe side, but there is still ice in the bay further out. Cooch out from Tudhope Park is still full of ice. From what I can see looking south from the North East shore of Simcoe, there is a ton of ice floating offshore probably 5 or 6km as well. I'm hoping to get out for Perch this weekend with the boat, but it really isn't looking all the great, at least around the North part of the lake. Fingers crossed for some good melt the next couple days.
  14. I think it all depends on what your expectations are for a boat that is 20 years old. What type of lakes are you planning on fishing and how much money can you drop on a motor? Are you planning on buying a new engine for a 20 year old boat? or would you be looking for a deal on a used engine? For a 20ft boat, you could easily go as low as a 150, but again, it depends largely on what your expectations are and the lakes you plan on fishing. If you want your boat to run in the high 60's - low 70's, a 150 isn't going to do it. If you plan on fishing some of the bigger lakes in rougher weather, a 150 on a 20ft rig can be a little dangerous as the engine will have a hard time lifting the bow regardless of how good your prop and motor are set up. Still doable though. $4000 grand could be a good price, depends on the condition of the hull and gel coat as well as the pumps, electrical, carpet, etc. A boat that old will have stress cracks, no big deal, they all get them, so long as they aren't structural. The transom is another area to pay very close attention to. Here's a boat that WAS for sale on BFB. Didn't last more than a couple days, just to give you an idea of what is possible in that price range. http://www.bigfatbass.com/bfbclassifieds/index.php?p=detail&id=94 Lastly, check the states, buying a boat down there isn't difficult and you can save thousands if you do your research and know what you're looking for.
  15. Senko's have more salt so they tend to sink a little faster.
  16. Definitely check out Bass Magnet Lures and Strikezone Tournament Baits. Two good Ontario companies. http://www.bassmagnetlures.com/ http://www.strikezonetournamentbaits.com/
  17. You could try using a senko (stick-worm) that has less salt. Gary Yammamoto 'senkos' have way more salt thnn some of the other brands out there, and thus they are heavier.
  18. Not to hi-jack this post, but this is one of my all-time favorites.
  19. Koppers I think they're designed here and all that, but probably manufactured somewhere else.
  20. I have a lot of respect for the way that whole situation was handled.
  21. Just a thought... There can be some pretty strong under currents on Simcoe. I sometimes can't see my jig in 80ft of water at times. Often, I will mark a friends jig who is 20ft up current of me.
  22. Beautiful boat! Should handle the big water nicely!
