I second Canada maps for info. I have both it and navionics on my phone, as well as a navionics card for my plotter/sounder. The Canada maps won't give you detail anything like navionics, but is certainly handy to have for the lay of the land!

Yep, heck if they won't put one here, I'll see you there!!!

Please advise as to outcome. I am considering replacing my framed pontoon boat with the sea eagle frameless next season. I would like to hear how they handle it. Thanks!

Huge News!!! I have joined Italo on Canadian Sportfishing!
porkpie replied to Aaron Shirley's topic in General Discussion
I like what you have done so far. I am sorry to hear you have chosen to partner with Italo. -
I like em both, and have plenty of full handles, and a good few split grips! They all have a place in my boat from time to time!

I have had the Costco monster tent for years now, it is inexpensive, well built and well designed and I have weathered some torrential downpours without getting wet in the least, and frankly on some occasions I have been certain we would get wet due to how heavy the rain was. I have had it at least 6 seasons if not more and I am completely satisfied! Just another option!

Fluoro as a main line is crap, fantastic for leaders, and all of my braid rigs with a few exceptions for trolling or fishing heavy cover have a couple feet of Fluoro lead. But as a main line, forget it!

I'm no expert, but fwiw I have an inflateable pontoon that I use for small waters and fishing backlakes from my atv and it will remain completely inflated for days at a time, and I have never noticed a variance.

Trilene XL on spinning rigs and my float reels, XT on casting rigs. I have several casting rigs that get tuff line, and several spinning rigs that get nanofil, but my mono usage is consistently trilene!

There you go! The first guy to step up and say I'll take those free canoes without asking for pictures and other nonsense gets the goods, as it should be!! Nice gesture OP!

Dropshoting, marketing or real science behind it?
porkpie replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Remember the pickerel rig..... That's dropshotting! Yes, it works! You don't need to buy all the fancy stuff to do it either, it just makes it easier! -
Took a guided fly fishing trip with wilson's fly-fishing in Fergus

First post a blatant plug... lol. -
I have a larger colour unit mounted in my boat that I am quite satisfied with, but I a looking for something with more bells and whistles than the lowrance x4 monochrome that I am currently using as a portable. The screen size for my purposes is a non issue. Also, I would like to have a second unit for ice fishing, as my son always horns in on my flasher, so being able to use the flasher mode would be great! Thanks for the info, I will check YouTube!
-
Hello, I realize that this is a relatively new unit, but I am wondering if anyone has one, or the older 345c DI. I am sure folks will suggest larger units, be advised I am well aware they exist and you have my thanks, but I am looking for a small colour unit with DI and flasher capabilities. This seems to be the only one with these features in a compact unit. The intended purpose is portaging, small lakes, ATV'ing to back lakes at my hunt camp etc, and perhaps replacing my flasher in winter. Wanting your thoughts on the unit, user friendliness, usefulness for ice fishing etc. Thanks for your input!

5lb collapsible anchor. That is a teeny boat, and you don't require much of an anchor. Just make sure you have plenty of line for the depth your anchoring. I use a 5lb collapsible on a 14 foot tin boat, and seldom have issues except in the strongest of winds.

Trailer Electronics/Break Lights
porkpie replied to love2fishhave2work's topic in General Discussion
Myself and a few buddies drive f150's and a couple of us have had fuse issues when towing. Minor but annoying. They are all late model, I don't know if its a known issue, but it is for us.... LOL! -

Stepping up on my soapbox for a second
porkpie replied to Acountdeleted's topic in General Discussion
I was fishing in a back bay in 3 feet of water the other day. I also caught some out of season bass. You would be beside yourself. Now, we did boat a pile of crappie in that same bay, and filled our cooler with em. But I can only imagine what people thought! I don't drive a bass boat though, and I wasn't tossing spinnerbaits. I can only hope people thought we where a bunch of rubes that had no idea what we where doing! -
any good custome rod builders in ontario
porkpie replied to outdoordude's topic in General Discussion
I have noticed you edited out your original post removing your name, which was Ethan. Coincidentally I happened to take a look at the floatfishing net rod building page yesterday, and there was a warning about a guy named Ethan screwing Spiel on a rod deal. Coincidence? Given those interesting circumstances I don't think I'd recommend anyone to you! -
I have followed this site for many many years way back before the changeover and probably back to the early beginnings. I have never felt a need to post on it much, an I believe I registered here at one point in order to contact someone on the buy and sell. I have seen many names come and go, and found it interesting to read the posts and sometimes the silliness. Some of the names mentioned in this very thread I'm not surprised might've been banned! Others, like that DipLip guy probably just lost interest in posting. Some will have gone to private sites. Many of them in a huff. A lot of people take the Internet way too seriously, and probably need to step back from it. Websites will always take the slant of the ownership, or moderators and no one is capable of being entirely fair to all people all the time. This is the Internet, it's not real life. If your not making friends or creating relationships outside of the web, there is an issue and you need to shut down your computer and step outside! This is an entertainment outlet nothing more, and people who have gotten too involved in the drama probably need to take a break, or move on! Just my thoughts on Internet soap operas!

Yes, I was looking at the rod for for pickeral fishing with the soft tip with quite a bit of meat in the bottom end, however decided that the tip was just a touch too soft. I have gone with a diawa instead as the action matched my intended purposes more closley, which is 3-4 inch jerkbaits, ballhead and twister combos and hook and splitshot combos for straight live bait presentations. I had no intention of "drop shotting" whatsover with the rod, more that I don't like carrying more than one rod around with me when night fishing from shore in the spring, and want one that covers all the bases as well as possible! From my boat its a non issue, as I can carry as many rods as I want, fishing at night with multiple rods from shore leaves your spare open to being stepped on or stolen when you are not paying attention! Hopefully the diawa will meet all my needs! I will find out next weekend! Thanks again for all the input!
-
I have gone with a diawa instead, not because of warranty, but due to handling the gl2 dropshotting rod again, and deciding the action wasn't quite what i had in mind. Saved a hundred bucks as well! Thanks for all your input!

What has gone downhill please? I have always had great experiences with loomis rods, and have been a customer for 20 years. I own 2 current production loomis rods and am quite satisfied. I recently had a friend who availed himself of warranty on a loomis rod and he was quite satisfied. I would be glad to hear of your personal experiences with loomis quality and customer service issues as I am open to other gear, and frankly was quite impressed with some of the diawa offerings. Thanks for your input!
-
Thanks for the reply. Yes, action seems appropriate for what I want, glad to hear they are a durable rod! When fishing from my boat multiple rods are no issue, but for a couple trips per year, I am fishing from shore at dams, points and locks, and I dislike carrying around multiple rods. Finding one that does everything well can prove challenging! Hoping for more input!

Anyone used these? (Spinning). Fiddling with one at bass pro the other day, and seemed like it might make the perfect multi use rod for pickerel fishing. Rod has a softer tip and a fair bit of power in the lower half. Opinions and input please, although I have no intention of dropshotting with the rod, but fishing live bait and tossing xraps and husky jerks, as well as ball heads and twister tails. Your thoughts on this particular fishing pole please! Also looked at the diawa pickerel rod, that was pretty decent too!
