Back lake bass,n and set up for the fall bear hunt
porkpie replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Hope you chained that barrel to something!!! The bears will roll it off your site otherwise!! Looks like a fun morning! -
I love boot foots for hunting, but for steelheading I would only go breathable with stocking foot and wading boots. I'll be honest, I only wear waders for steelheading when I absolutely have too! I find a comfy pair of lined rubber boots work well in a lot of circumstances on smaller flows. When you get into bigger water, your going to wade! I have explore camo boot foot waders, and they are great, but they suck in long walks!

Speaking of Canadian tire- rapala line counter combos on sale.
porkpie replied to porkpie's topic in General Discussion
I'll let you know LOL!! Hopefully they will hold up! -
On sale until Friday only, rapala line counter/rigger combo $59.99, line counter/ dipsey combo $89.99 and they have a rigger rod/ line counter loaded with lead core for $89.99! The real deal is the counter/rigger rod for 60 bucks! I picked up 2 at that price. Probably not as good as my sealines, but the price is right! Sale ends Friday, and they are now out of stock at most locations, but they are giving out rain checks! Just FYI!

What happened to Canadian Tire? senseless store policies
porkpie replied to bare foot wader's topic in General Discussion
There is this too! People have become very slippery in what they try to return. I have heard it from people I never expected too.... Yep, I used it and took it back, etc. etc. I can only imagine the stories someone working in retail could tell! I also personally don't believe that a store should have to accept a return on something that has been damaged as a result of abuse. Wether it be jumping a bike off a ramp, or smashing a fishing rod off of a bridge abutment, or into the side of the boat causing a failure. These are operator induced, and not a fault of the vendor. People who expect a retail outlet to eat the value of the product that they have misused are being unrealistic in my opinion. -

Check the resort on Deer bay. I always go to 3 Castles, and they are fantastic, but the resort on Deer bay usually have some last minute availabilty. Sorry, name escapes me. -

I have had nothing but positive experiences with CT. Especially the price matching policy!! -
If you want a free launch, you can head down to the end of highway 89, and launch at the end of shore acres drive in Guilford. I think innisfil wants $20 or $30 to launch and park. There is reasonable access to pike, bass and perch in cooks bay.

help pick budget salmon/steelhead rod & reel
porkpie replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
You could look into one of the new rapala offerings for a rod as they seem reasonably priced, or perhaps an ugly stick. For chinook you'll want a reasonably decent reel. They have a tendency to blow out drags in cheapies. Trust me, I've tried and had them fail! I use a diawa ss1300 with braid and a fluoro leader. Perhaps you could find one used on kijiji. If I had to choose one of those reels, I would probably go with the shimano. For kings in my opinion, the reel is where I'd spend the money, a cheep rod will be fine. -
It's been almost 20 years since I last fished etobicoke creek, but if I recall its just a ways up from the park. Pretty obvious, I don't think you'll be able to confuse it with anything else.

3M 5300 will keep the plastiboard stuck to a hull for a loooooopooooonnngggg time! My buddy and I have had it on both our boats for excess of ten years without any movement. No screws! It's good stuff! -
Awesome fish!!! Congrats on the win!

While I agree tournaments are a bloody nuisance, and frankly if they did away with them, I would be a happy camper, I am of the opinion that die off occurs fairly often in extreme temps, and have seen it before. While I'm sure it can't be good for the bass, I don't think it can be hung around the neck of the tournaments solely!

Yes, trout and salmon run etobicoke creek. It is not a very good run, but certainly they swim up every river, ditch and storm culvert that runs off of Lake Ontario. I found a hen steelhead trapped halfway up a run off ditch last April to give you an example! I wouldn't have great expectations, but certainly they show up in etobicoke in small numbers as well.

Well, Craig Ritchie beat me too it, but he about summed it up. It's flossing pure and simple, and when I want roe, I go out and do what needs to be done! They sit in the river in 2 to 6 feet of water, opening and closing their mouths. I have been at this game a very long time, and I no longer kid myself! Estuary fish on hardware is a whole other matter, and even under a float at the river mouth, I believe are instinctual hits. But up stream an a few feet of water, after being pounded...... Flossing! Sorry to be a spoil sport.

Get you some bright pompoms at dollarama and glue them onto hooks, they are cheap and work well for flossing!

Public urination is a common charge in university towns and club/bar districts, where inebriated youth commonly urinate on people's property, like car door handles and business front doors. In some instances you could be charged for doing it on your own property, however it would vary by municipality. It's unlikely to happen to be honest, unless your peeling on your neighbours car at 3am, and your caught in the act, while officers are attending the blowout base thumping party at your residence. Somehow I doubt that will be the case, so be discreet and you should be ok!

Thats a big fish, and he isn't holding it that far away, you can tell by the angle of his right arm. However it is not a 72LB fish, I agree. Hell of a catch though!
