  1. Me neither, I can actually get a spot to fish when I have occasion to be out that way!
  2. Makes no difference, everyone knows where the ganny is, and he is basically saying he caught nothing. I could see your point if he said he pounded em, and the fish where in thick. Angler numbers actually appear down at port hope these days. In the heyday, it was often shoulder to shoulder even midweek.
  3. And again, that is simply a matter of political opinion, and not what this whole thread is about. I'm wont be taking your bait. Take care.
  4. Friend, You are defending the indefensible. I am quite literally a card carrying member of the Conservative party of Canada, a regular donor, and support most (but not all) conservative platforms. A point has been well made, and it is simply that this is about moral fibre (not political leanings) and the overall fitness of a mayor to make decisions on behalf of his electorate when he isn't fit to make good decisions in his own life. Now, few politicians are angels, but this fellow is in a class of his own. You can bang the drum as loudly as you like, but he is not a good and decent man that has made the odd mistake, he is a beligerant alcoholic, recreational drug user and poor decision maker that believes he has really not done much wrong. His whole sorry tale is unwinding in the public eye, and if this is what you choose to stand up for, well it's your hill to die on! I believe in morals and decency, this fellow displays little of that. I can't support him no matter what his platform. I'm glad he's not my mayor, because if he was I'd want him gone immediately!
  5. Have your phone unlocked and buy a pay as you go disposable US SIM card.
  6. Just buy the cover, the alternatives will be ill fitting and nowhere as effective!
  7. Classic drifter. Best entry reel available. Second choice is raven.
  8. Yep, I bought a transom mount 50lb thrust trolling motor from them, and got it for 10 percent less than the best price I could get it from Lebaron, who was incidentally the cheapest place around at the time. The store managers don't like doing it, but they absolutely will! I buy almost anything fishing or hunting related there, so long as I can find the item at regular price in the Lebaron (or other) catalogue, and as long as its the exact same product. Give it a try!
  9. I am a card carrying member of the Conservative party, and even I thought this fellow was a sideshow. But in honesty I thought he was a sideshow from the start, and drugs never came into it for a second. He's just not a fit leader for a large City. I'm glad he's not my mayor. With respect to drugs, I have given him the benefit of the doubt all along without any real proof. Even still, I haven't seen any video, but your having a pretty rough day when a police chief will go on record alluding, if not saying outright that there is evidence of such activity.
  10. You will enjoy it! I am a convert from the clam flip overs! They really don't take much more effort to set up!
  11. Never bothered timing any of my reels. If it makes you happy though.... Giver!
  12. Having owned all varieties over the years, I would have to say the most useful to me is the hub style. I still have a 2 man fish trap, but I never use it. I just toss a 2 man hub style shelter on the rack of my ATV, or in the toboggan if I'm on foot, and i am good to go. Only takes me a few minutes to set and secure if i find a hot bite, and I can break it down really quickly. Often times I don't want to fish from a shelter if the weather is decent, so this works for me. If your set on the tub style with a flip over shelter, i have always had pretty good value from the fish trap line! Your mileage may vary!
  13. I've had my marcum since 2005, and I've been extremely pleased with its performance!
  14. Gimme a break dude, racism is alive and well in Canada, don't kid yourself!
  15. Everyone likes a fireman my friend!
  16. No-one is ever happy, about any kind of enforcement, unless they are the ones requesting it. That same person requesting enforcement for one matter that particularily irks them, will then turn around and scream bloody murder if they get jammed up for something else. This is the nature of man (and woman), and there is a reason you will never see a thread about firemen get locked!
  17. Useful= anything to do with anything. Useless= whining about the internetz. Life is too short to worry about who wins the internetz. For those that need that, best keep it to PM's so the rest of us can read up about hockey, and how to floss salmon! Cheers! IMO
  18. If I had to spend my money on an entry level centerpin, I would probably go with the new rapalas. My first choice would be the classic drifter that runs about $150-160 at lebarons, my second choice would be the rapala R type, that I think retails around $110 or $120. I own multiple float reels, and have fished many more, and the classic drifter would be my first choice based on design, startup and overall smoothness, and the price sure isn't bad!
  19. Maybe just let the useless threads die! Most of us don't care, and the few that are offended about locked threads and censorship could take it to PM's, goodness knows that, among other things is what they are for! And before you comment that I dont have to read the thread etc. your post is pretty non-specific! All the best!
  20. The front of your waders make a handy towel! Much like the sleeve of your jacket is a handy Kleenex! I don't mind being dirty! For any worm chuckers, you can buy bags of dried moss at pet shops, if you add a tiny bit of water, and store your worms in the moss, your hands will be much cleaner!
  21. Good choice! The gas mileage difference will be minimal, but the benefits of the 4x4 are tremendous the odd time you REALLY need it! I couldn't imagine my truck as a purely 2wd vehicle. Have fun with the new ride!
  22. Sounds like a great day!
  23. May be a few late runners if the expected rain comes through. Majority of the salmon Re in the closed sections of the river. As Chessy mentioned, you can only fish to the second train bridge north of the river mouth. Lots of water to fish there, but your timing may be off. Good luck!
  24. This is a good option for the occasional angler, or someone that uses minimal roe. For a heavy egg user, its expensive, and limits the option to whatever cure is thrown on the eggs by the seller, or the hatchery he is purchasing from. I don't want to be limited to one cure. I want natural uncured, pro-cured eggs, salt cured, boraxed and on and on. They all serve a different purpose to me under different water conditions. I also want some skein, some scraped skein, some loose etc. I make absolutely no bones about harvesting a few salmon and a few trout every year. What I don't do is then go on the internet and gripe about lack of conservation measures by fellow fishermen. I know I'm going to kill some fish to keep fishing, and I won't sugar coat it for anyone. I make sure I take my fish home, and that they get put to use. All trout are consumed. Late salmon might be composted if they are inedible. Fresh ones with skein get smoked. But in reality, those are the only migratory fish I keep all year, and all else are released, so I am probably killing way less fish than the average fellow going out for dinner fish. I will never complain about the guys that want to harvest some trout for food though, as they are the ones that will keep us fishing when the pure catch and release advocates would put us in a position that fishing with no purpose other than enjoyment could be deemed cruel. Further, I seldom release a legal pickeral, unless its into a pan of hot oil, so who the heck am I to judge. Steelhead are put on a pedestal because they are pretty, and will give you a good fight, but make no mistake, they are a fish like all the others. Heck at one time, I knew an old cat that kept every legal musky he caught. Do I understand it, no not really but it was legal, and he ate them, so more power to him. Anyway, my 2 cents!
  25. Beads can be a flossing tool, that doesn't mean they are one. I have caught fish on beads, and have watched people catch on bead, even in some pretty deep holes and wAter where lining woulld be difficult if not impossible. I have also watched guys fish mega long leads in clear water on spooked fish in shallow runs and "I believe" they where flossing, and frankly I am pretty sure they knew what they where doing. Beads catch fish, if you don't believe they do, then you've never fished a single egg bite! But, when the float drops you'd better hit em fast, as they don't seem to hold it like a bag.
