Lost my pier net, need advice on replacing it
porkpie replied to chefboi17's topic in General Discussion
You can get a pretty decent extension pole for $35 or so at Home Depot. I've had mine for about 15 years. Find a net that just slides over the end of the pole, then drill a hole through the pole for a bolt. I have yet to meet the pier or dam that mine can't handle! -
You'll probably get a lot of responses if you where to put up a post on walleye central. Those guys are mad about electronics!! I have used a 7, not an 8 on my friends boat, and only messed with the touch screens in the stores. I would go touch without hesitation if I could afford it. Having said that, I have no real world experience with a touch.

No I have never financed a recreational item, generally preferring my credit line when I have done in the past. Most recreational products the rates are much higher, even if you have exceptional credit, but 20 percent??? I can't imagine they would ever sell one through their own financing. They should give you a ballpark rate for someone with good credit without any kind of check, soft or otherwise. You know if your credit is good, bad or in the middle. Good luck!

Stay away from Stoeger. I've had 2 friends that have had them break in the past couple years. Take a look at the winchester or remington pumps. Not pretty but serviceable! You should be able to pick one up new for your budget. Either that or look for a used browning BPS. Good luck!

6'6" fenwick HMG. Makes a great multipurpose rod. I've tossed everything from spinnerbaits to jerkbaits and all manner of soft plastics for pike and bass. Light enough and a limited lifetime warranty. For multi use I would stick with the 6'6", the 7 foot HMG is a bit heavier action. I also like the mojo bass line from St. Croix, they are technique specific, but that is a bunch of Bull, I just look for the specific action I want, and grab a rod despite what name they put on it. I have a couple of them, and they are quite nice! All around $100, with good warranty! These are not 2 piece though, I only own 1 2 piece casting rod, and it's a junker I keep for back lake trips! Sorry can't help there!

Yikes. House of Lancaster material....

We hunt a lot of beef cattle farms during calving. The buggers are everywhere! Great picture!!

I tie my own black and white marabou jigs with a bit of tinsel flash. They do double duty for steelhead and spring panfish, and the bulk of my spring panfish are caught on them. I seldom use live bait, but on rare occasion live emeralds rigged under a slip float are what it takes to get it done!

Three castles resort. Buckhorn ON, great folks!

Same in Wellington, just exactly as advertised! Actually, I have practically been able to set my watch by the weatherman this winter. The accuracy has been astounding. I can't believe this guy wants to whine cause he didn't get hammered.

That old adage took me a long time to learn, but I agree wholeheartedly. Put in simpler terms, it's $1700. Amortize that over 10 years and it's peanuts. In 10 years the Polaris will probably be long since sold, but I would put money on the Yamaha being fit for another 10 years of service. The oldest honda at my camp is 28 years old this season. The oldest Yamaha at least 20. We still use them every year, and they require very little maintenance. The honda has literally been beat half to death, and still keeps ticking along. In all things, you get what you pay for! Anyway, I won't harp on your thread anymore. Good luck with whatever you go with!

I would take the yamaha every time. If I didn't have the extra scratch, I'd wait or I would look for a few year old model and buy used. I bought mine with under 800km in mint condition for significantly less dollars than a new machine, and for all intents and purposes it was barely broken in.

Ice fishing or steelhead fishing this weekend?
porkpie replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
I'm sick of winter, so I've been steelheading. Conditions are less than ideal, but I can't stand the thought of more ice fishing right now. I was out in my street tossing a practice plug on one of my casting rods this morning. The neighbours think I'm nuts, lol! -
I wouldn't go out and buy backing, unless your set on having something coloured, I'd just grab some junk line and spool it up. Those cheap suffix bulk spools work well for about $4 and you can do a few reels. Hi vis line is really not needed, then guys get in to shot lines and all kinds of unnecessary stuff. If you can see your float, you should know where your line is within a foot or so. Mono to fluoro lead is really all that's required, and is the simplest rig for adjustability that is out there! I try to keep my frustrations down to a minimum, and trilene xl has always worked for me so why mess with success. Just another perspective.

Some provincal camping help please. (some fishing)
porkpie replied to Acountdeleted's topic in General Discussion
I have done a pile of crown land camping, but some women just aren't up to it. I used to date a girl that loved it, but my wife really likes an organized provincial park. Some women prefer to be close to a bathroom and showers! If she's not that outdoorsy, I wouldn't push the crown land camping that hard! You definately wouldn't regret restoule! -
Cigars make me gag, but glad you enjoy them! The bows have started if you know where to look!

Polaris are a good deal cause they are cheap. Which works out to be not such a good deal for longevity. For every satisfied Polaris owner I've run across, I've met with a pile of dissatisfied ones. Every single one that we've had come into our hunt camp has crapped out at one point or another. There is only 1 left, it's a 2007. It has been regularily maintained, but it has failed at least once between Mose and deer weeks for the last 3 seasons. All of the rest of us have Hondas or yamahas. My guest bike is an old kawi that runs pretty good, but my daily driver is a yamaha. I once bought an arctic cat, and it too was a hunk of crap! Another guy at my camp also had 2 cats, and they where dung heaps too! All of our machines get beat on pretty hard, as we hunt, run trails, drag wood out of the bush, clears trails etc. all year long. Polaris are cheap for a reason. Glad to hear your looking at yamaha. That and honda are the only real choices in my mind!

Another vote for restoule, even though it's farther than you want to travel. Excellent place! Failing that, Emily provincial park is close, and the fishing is not bad! -
Can't wait! Also can't get my damn boat out of the driveway, it's still frozen in a snowbank!!
-
Got one last year, frontier 12! Great boat for hunting and fishing, heavy at 78lbs though, however it can seat 2 if desired, which is nice!

I wouldn't go the trailer route for a scanoe either, but if your set on it, there is a harbour freight just across the border near the walden galleria mall. You could probably ship to store for pickup if they dont have it in stock. You could also send it to US adress in niagra falls. I have gear delivered there from time to time for $5 a package!

Yep!

C'mon down and visit us on the grand, you sound like a swell guy!
