There are Walleye in there, also going to target some pan fish.

That's good news. You think it will be ok for Saturday with the mild weather. I'm thinking yes, since I've gone on Simcoe after two days of unseasonably warm weather.

Hi guys, I'm thinking about going out to Zone 15, specifically Big Cedar Lake (north of Peterborough, just south of Bancroft) and wondering if anyone here can provide feedback on the ice conditions for Lakes in that area and how thick it is. It will be my first trip up there for ice fishing. I'm taking some new fisherpeople and want to see if anyone can help me out before I make the long drive up there. Thanks in advance. Jet

Nice find. It is sad what humans can and will do to our environment. I can't believe they allow that water to dump into Lake Ontario.

Well since you said you didn't mark anything and your neighbor did, perhaps it did throw them off. I was in Cooks bay this year at a hut and the bottom was filled with garbage. What looked like old sausages (about 6 of them, all white and bloated), plastic utensils, cans, plastic bags, it was disgusting. We caught squat that day, and for Perch early in the season (second week of Jan.) it's pretty rare. Not sure if that was the reason, but it looked really unnatural to the fish I'm sure and might have told their fish senses that humans were there - stay clear.

Did anyone else have any luck that day? I'm going out there Saturday hope it picks up! Personally I think a complete head and body represents death and likely not attractive to other Lakers. But small bits properly cut up and chummed should bring in some investigative fish.

thanks for the update HH. You just save me a trip down there.

I'm thinking about going down this weekend, near the bridge on Hwy 49. Can you tell me what the ice conditions are like? Thanks!
-
If you get the proper size, you should have no issues moving around. That said, stop in at Lebaron and check it out. They have both. Try sitting down, bending, pretend you're cutting holes in the ice, and I'm sure you'll have a good idea if its comfortable for you.

One piece is warmer for sure, naturally. If you fall in then one piece is much better as it restricts water inflow much better.

This is what I noticed after initially leaning towards the mustang. For practically the same price at Lebaron, the Mustang Classic ($284) has a better hood but only a few pockets. The Alpha ($279) has a ton of pockets, neoprene cuffs, better fastening systems on sleeves and ankles, several tightening straps and suspenders which is great when things get to warm as it will keep things from falling down. It also felt as thought he insulation was more substantial. For the money, the Alpha had much more value.

Thanks everyone for your input. Found one at Hirks and it has been ordered! Thanks ecmilley.

Thanks for tip. Yea I will be up that way Saturday on Simcoe. Do you know if they carry the Alpha suit? I presume the $229 is for the Delta correct?

Does anyone know any stores in the GTA other than Lebaron's that carries HH float suits. They didn't have my size and I don't know what other store carries them. Thanks in advance. jet

Hey guys, I've been wanting to try Kempenfelt, and found this operator's ad on Kijji: Rent my Ice hut on Lake Simcoe. We are on Kempenfelt bay. Lots of Whitefish and Lake Trout. Minutes from shore by foot. Transportation if needed. 4 man heated huts, bait provided. 705-728-8215 Kempenfelt huts http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-ho...QAdIdZ103735182 Has anyone here know or heard of this operator. I want to rent this weekend, but he has no pictures or website. I'm taking 3 rookie icefishers and want to make sure it is at least decent. I've tried to find other operators in Kempenfelt with no luck. If someone has can recommend an operator in that area please do. Thanks!

Can you only claim one coupon per purchase?

Got skunked too, from Dave's huts. Others got skunked too. A few got 1 to 4 fish, but only a few. I marked fish throughout the day, not a lot but a decent amount. Many chased my spoon between 3 and 8 feet, the turned back. Happened on four occasions. Interesting thing, the ice was cracking all day long which tested the nerves of many. On the way back there was a huge crack line near shore on the north side of Georgina Island that loosened up a car sized slab of ice. Luckily Dave's guys are very conscious and noticed the crack before driving over it and marked it off. It went from one end almost to the other. Any unlucky vehicle would have went in if they didn't see it first. It was bad enough that we had to walk to shore.

I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in Europe or Russia area. I got the email too and the vehicles and plates are not from North America. Here's another pic from that email. Now that's busy!

Glad to see the ice is strong and you had some good action out there.

It's funny that while that may not look appetizing by western standards especially when compared to a double cheeseburger and KFC, the most disgusting thing is how one's body looks after eating the latter for years. That's probably why Canada's youth, according to the World Health Organization, have the 4th highest rate for obesity. On the flip side eating that very fresh fish and snake would be quite good for you. Ask Survivorman.

I have the exact same auger. Call Normark directly. They can either send you new blades or you can go into their office and they'll inspect them and/or buy them on the spot. Normark Inc 1350 Phillip Murray Ave Oshawa, ON L1J 1A1 (905) 571-3001

This happened to me two weekends ago too with some Perch. I feel bad about the fish suffering out of the water, so wanted to ask what methods you guys use to humanely kill fish instantly. The two I've used are the hard whack between the eyes or a knife straight into the brain. Anyone know what method is the most humane?
-
Great job with all those fish! Were you guys moving around all day or did you stay around Hank's hut that you had? I went out the same day in a rented hut from Tim Hales. Lost one Whitefish and that was it all day. The other renters also had no luck either.

Good job getting out there. I also got out there today. The morning was cold but by noon it wasn't too bad at all with the sun beaming down. Like you the Perch weren't biting much. Managed 20 myself with only about 5 worth keeping out from Pefferlaw. I think Sunday will be better, too bad I can't make it out there tomorrow
