  1. Want to replace many of my front trebles on my cranks with red ones but do not want to buy the hooks and am hoping I can dye or paint them red instead. Any alternatives to buying new red hooks? How would a red permananet marker work, red nail polish, blade dip dye,,,,has anyone tried any of these alternatives,,,,if so how has the color held up on the hook?

  2. When I first got into bass fishing real good some of the first "high end" rods I bought were for flipping/pitching and frogging. Simply because the rod's for the job needed to be powerful, sensitive, light in hand, and warranty covered. I can deal with a cheap casting rod and can fish it all day with little fatigue but give me a cheap flipping stick and the amount of extra rod weight sucks. Your swinging light to 1oz baits constantly all day long looking for a a handful of bites a light balanced setup is needed for this so try and get the best you can afford.

I started with a pair of St Croix Legend Tournament rods a 7'3XH and a 7'H(1 blew apart the other is long gone) Seemed light to me paired with Curado 200E7's caught lot's of fish and learned the basics of pitching and punching through cover with plastics and jigs. But then I went over to what G.Loomis has to offer. The difference in balance was huge. I didn't realize how "tip-heavy" the St Croix's were and when your rod is pointed to the sky most of the day you want the weight in your wrist not at the top of the rod, tip down applications like twitchbaits, spinnerbaits, jerks or canks the balance of the rod is not as important due to the rod being pointed down 80% of the time.

I purchased a BCFR893 Mossyback, it's a 7'5" Medium Heavy powered rod excellent for all around pitching. Balances really nice with a sub 7oz reel like the Core 100MgFV, or 50Mg7's. This rod gave me a taste of what a expensive flipping stick is all about, balance, power, amazing sensitivity and backed by a awesome warranty. I'm a tackle nut so I upgrade to the BCFR894 GLX (sub $500) at 7'5" and Hvy power this is one of my go-to stick's in the cover and don't think I will try anything else for the heavy cover flipping/punching. The price is a few hundred but you quickly forget about it when you feel the sensitivity balance and power all working together.

Your looking for a stout rod that your chasing big fish with buy a quality stick you will not be disappointed. Lot's of great options out there!

Good point, I am selling a GLX 894 right now for $300, just in case any one want to trade, I accept St Criox Legend Extreme 7 or long MH rods

  4. well i started off the day trying some new spots for musky... i planned to focus on rocks and basins... i ended up trolling a basin for a while as well as a big stone pile with no success... the i tried some shallow wood... nothing but an accidental largie... so i thought i would try a nice point that holds walleye and smallies... and BAM... 52 incher!!! :thumbsup_anim: now my day is made... :clapping: then we combed the area looking for others... nothing... so we headed to a weedbed that usually holds fish... we werent sure if they were on yet cause my friend in another boat was there for 3-5 hours in the morning with nothing but a follow... so we tried... after 4 passes trolling BAM... 38 incher on the fifth pass... now its turning into a really good day and the smiles are ear to ear... :D ...we decide to try another close by weedbed that has a nice steep bank... first pass BAM... 36 incher... now im floored... all these fish were caught within a 2-3 hour span... later we also got a 6 and 10lb pike and a mid 40 inch musky follow... all and all... great day on the water...

    this musky pooed??

  5. Hi my friends and I rent a cottage in Chemeong Lake this August. We are planning to fish in Pigeon, Buckhorn and Chemeong Lake. We mainly want to target Bass, Walleye, Musky and Crappie.

Any good spot you may suggest? Any good restaurants or local interest near Chemeong Lake worth to pay a visit? Any information will be helpful. Thank you

  6. I have only fished the river in sand banks that connects the two lakes. It has giant rock bass, Normal Bass ( large or small mouth, I can't remember) and Gar! At least that's all I caught, There may be more.

Places to check out specifically are anywhere up or down stream from the canoe rental hut, get between the lilly pads or down stream of the bridge near the rental hut, beside the rock cribs!

I caught everything using a smallish hook, and a white 2 inch mr. twister with a few split shot weights, reeling slowly.

My grandfather used to fish west lake for everything but he targeted eel... At least my mother remembers eating eal sandwiches as a kid. If you catch an eel now though, you got to throw it back!

thanks dude, but no eel please :)
  7. Don't bother trying to fish in Sandbanks park. There is just Lake Ontario there and you have to have a boat and go way out in lake.

If you have a boat launch into Bay of Quinte at Trenton which isn't to far away.

If you want to shore fish Twelve O'Clock point a little south of Trenton, on Bay of Quinte, is pretty good for pike, bass, and walleye.

Twelve O'Clock point...hmmm interesting name, where is it? can't find it on the google map though
