got another vid made up "better get while the gettin's good", I know I will be back at it again in the morning. still lots of ice
gotta crank the speakers rite up to hear it
-
i got out before the season closed for some last ice action, the fish are very predictable at this time of year and are not shy when they hit, oversized williams was the key i hope you enjoy the video
-
Look at the size of the belly on that! What a bucketlist fish. Also that ice fishing rod you were using looks awesome, where did you get it from?
wow you got a good eye, i built the rod from a broken g-loomis tip.
what kind of fow were u fishing in? looks pretty shallow...
ya we were fishing shallow anywhere from 5-10 fow the perch are hitting out of aggresion right now and we caught allot of male perch that werent around two weeks ago
Nice hog!
Did you get a measurement and weight on it?
That thing must have felt like a bass!
when i pinched the tail it was 14 3/8" long and 10.75 giirth she weighed 2 pounds on the dot on the digital scale, funny thing is that the area we were fishing we pulled a couple smallmouth out and i thought thats what i had on
-
got out to simcoe the other day and got some nice jumbos with one real big hog that im gonna get mounted, made a little video of some of the action
here is a pcture of the hog beside a 2 litre pop bottle to show its true size, makes the pop bottle look small

fresh arctic char are my favourite, never tasted any fish that i thought was better. actually... " i like it raw "
its good cooked to tho
i think it depends where you get it from and if its fresh or not. i think the smaller 2-6lbers taste the best. the ones i caught were on baffin island and tasted good even when i snuck a few home

thanks for all the awesome comments guys for those of you interested in the ulu (knife) i would check out the iqaluit sell/swap group on facebook or even the pangnirtung sell/swap group also on facebook and see if someone can ship you one they are by far the sharpest knife i have used. i brought back almost a dozen of em for friends and family and kept 4 for my self lol
about the baby seal its an absolute delicassy. they love the baby seal meat, and also the fur is very warm i purchased a pair of baby seal skin mitts when i was up there and my hands never got cold even in the harshest arctic weather ( got to about -50)
the inuit way of living is a lot different then what were used to down south, when an inuit boy reaches a certain age as a right of passage into manhood they have to kill a baby seal, we brought this guy back alive for the hunters grandson. i got to play around with the thing for a good two hours on the ride back home
i was very lucky to get the chance to go up there as my cousin is a nurse and got called up there for some work. she will be returning to ontario shortly as her work is done. if she wasnt there then there would be no way i could go up there i think the hotel is like 250$ a night or something.
i also got to see a polar bear unfortunately no pics as my camera was frozen (ran into this problem many of times lol) we were seal hunting at the floe edge and the hunter pointed it out to me. i could barely see it so we hopped on the ski-doo and drove right up close to it i would say about 30 yards away from it. it ran away from us and we chased it to the floe edge and it jumped into the water. the biggest most magnificent most beatifull creature i have ever seen
the arctic char was the most clean and pure fish i have ever tasted, one of the hunters explained the life cycle to me (they dont speak much english so this is what i understood)the char live in the salt water and eat and get big, then in the fall they migrate up the rivers to spawn after they spawn they keep going up river and they make there way up into the freshwater moutain lakes for winter, when the big spring meltoff starts and all the snow and ice melts they get washed back into the ocean, and get big for a couple months and then repeat the process
heres a picture of my ulu's, a toy owl made out of baby seal skin, some rocks from the arctic circle and by far my most prized possesion my inuit fishing rod
-
i recently had a chance to travel to a small fishing/hunting town called pangnirtung on baffin island. the goal was to do some fishing and hunting and learn about the inuit way of life. it was an experience of a lifetime and i hope to do it again someday. ill let the pics do the talking
top of the mountain above the small town (mount duval)
the fishing was awesome they had about 5 feet of ice and the arctic char are everywhere
the fish are so fresh and clean like no other fish iver ever caught the meat is by far the best tasting fish iver ever had i was eating it raw as i was cleaning them and it tasted awesome
also got to do some hunting the target was baby seal took us two days but we finally got one

Wow, that is a beauty laker, did you have to hand bomb it after the rod broke?
Cool buggy, bet that is fun out there on the ice
no he kept reeling it in the top half of the rod when down the line to the lure but the other half was still good lol
Congrats BIG FISH on that beauty hog
thanks for the comments guys my dad was super happy it was his biggest fish threw the ice, and also his pb laker
does anyone know if they are good to eat that size? it was such a baeutiful fish we couldnt chop it up

got out today to test the dune buggy on the ice started out at gilford and worked our way up the lake catching lots of little perch we finally ended up near a group of huts near fox island. dropped the fish finder in and marked 80 fow, and fish on screen we thought here we go, hopefully catch a whitie or two for dinner. drop the spoons down and bam more perch we were pissed cause we had been catching perch all day and wanted something bigger. so we sat there for a bout half an hour catching dink perch and finally we said ok lets get out of here so i reel up my line and pack it up, then my dad reels in his line pretty fast, and a mark on the finder comes screaming in after it. his spoon is now about 15 feet below the ice and the fish is charging it from the depths i said to him stop reeling for a sec and let it sit there. BAM! the fish slammed right in to it , my dads little perch rod with 4 lb line bends right over and the drag starts going. after about 5 mins his rod breaks right in half got the fish we were looking for !!! and the dune buggy ran great !!!!
fish measured 33" long 18" girth and was released, he was puking up 6" smelts when we brought him up
heres a better pic of the dunebuggy if anyone is interested
and a couple from on the ice today

Nice !!!! Hey we could use a guy like you over on Team one I think we could give about 15 bucks an hour, but ya gotta keep it a secret
im in!! lol i can do it free of charge let me know whats involved
Nice catch!!!. We are heading down there this weekend. What did you guys catch the fish on?
caught em on a variety of spoons seemed like anything with silver or gold, i would highly recomend making a stop at a place called bulpit baits theyve got the best bait we didnt have one minnow die in our bucket the whole time. they have small medium and large golden shiners and all are 4 bucks a dozen
-
Now that's how you do a long weekend.....NICE!!!! Were you guys on your own or with an outfitter?
actually the first two days i was solo and my buddies were planning on renting a hut but i guess the hut operator had pulled his huts off of the ice because of the rain so they came up and fished with me for the last two days
-
day 1, lots of dink perch then mid day a big pike smashes my set line gave me an awesome fight it started to get dark and i caught some jumbos and lost a walleye under the hole
day 2, caught some small pike and oos smallies (quickly released) during the day. then as it got dark the walleyes moved in and i got my limit and lost a couple others
day 3, PIKE BONANZA, the pike were everywhere today realeased probably triple what was kept, got a couple walleye a jumbo perch and what i think was a herring ?
day 4, WALLEYES!!! my buddy caught the monster and we caught a few pike to

thanks for the comments guys and trust me im not complaining crappies are my favorite.rodcaster this is my 3rd year with a flasher and the more i use it the more i love it. these fish would only eat if your bait was half way off bottom. definitelly helped me ice those slabs
-
got out to one of my favorite little lakes for a few hours last night hoping to get a couple walleyes missed a really good bite right at dark and that was it but after it got dark i started to mark these fish coming half way up off bottom and give my minnow a bump then go back down. i figured it could only be one thing so put on a smaller jig and some maggots and BINGO got onto some nice slabs kept half a dozen of the big ones for a snack threw the rest back, no walleyes but i guess these will have to do oh by the way all these pics were taken with the iphone does a better job than my digital
this was the size of the throwbacks
last weekend got onto a few pike there small but fun to catch on the spoon in 30 fow went 3 for 3

wow that sounds a little aggessive to me ... I hope you told that story in court when you fought the ticket.
waiting for my court date to come in the mail
-
Just curious what in the world was he going to arrest you for if you came back out legal??Surely there is more to the story!
I have been stopped numerous times by the MNR and various regionals on the water and have never had a bad experience but my boat and papers are always in order.
i did not have a re boarding device on the boat (ladder) he didnt fine me for it but i got home and read the book and it says if your boat sits 20 inches above the water line then you need a ladder but since im in a bassboat i sit about 15 inches above the water so i dont even need one

i got nabbed this year, i left my wallet in the truck wich had my card in it, ive had my card for a while and ive never been checked. i was fishing about 30 yards off shore in front of the boat launch and i explained to the officer i can go to shore right now and get it and that i just forgot it in the car. but it didnt matter to him he was giving me the ticket no matter what i was nice to him and everything but he was being a a real prick. and he gave me a $350 ticket, after he gave it to me he sayed to me "your going into shore now and not coming back" he said "your fishing trip is over", i said "well what if i go get my card i can come back out then", and he replied "if you come back out we will arrest you and we have you on radar so dont try any little detours". then he said to me "start your motor so that i know you will get back to shore" so i turn the key and motor fired right up then he says " you might want to take that in for a tuneup " and i replied "why is that" he replied "well it doesnt exactly purr like a kitten now does it"
so anyway we went in and took the boat out of the water and i got stuck with a $350 ticket in one hand and boaters card in the other, guess they have to pay for that 3/4 of a million dollar boat somehow

im in where do they announce the winner, is it a live thing we can watch or just gotta wait for a phone call type of thing?

I was in Guelph Lake, I can't see whatever other species they may have been when I was getting all 3 sizes of fish on the display...
It's possible they were not Bass, I've only fish it twice. We caught Bass among the marked fish schools.
Perch, not that large
Walleye nope
Pike predators
Carp ??? doubt it
dropshot one of these in spring break colour http://reactioninnovations.com/box/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=36

dude nice job you found yourself a honeyhole. gotta love the days when your float wont float. nice that no other boats are around trying to steal your fish either, you got em all to yourselves
-
So I am primarily a bass fisherman who does some trout fishing when the bass season is closed and am the reigning champion when it comes to "Word Pickerel Fisherman Ever".
So, I was thinking of hitting one of the deep lakes in the Kawartha Highlands and trying to catch some Lake Trout on Monday since I have the day off...
I read that there is a deep three way rig that people use to troll around 50 feet... is that the right idea?
6lb. test and a medium rod?
Does that make sense?
Any help or direction would be appreciated.. as always...
Thanks,
Wask
i would recomend braid if your going to be jigging deep water mono will stretch to much
