  1. Don't forget Alumacraft, Edge series(18'9ft) is nice. I had a 16ft/75hp for 10 years and upgraded to an Alumacraft 19ft w/200hp this year family loves it lots of room does everything make sure you get everything you want to make everyone happy. I did look at all brands for years and was going to pull the trigger on either a crestliner or princecraft but really happy with the deal and boat I got.

    good luck

  2. Just actually ordered a Lund Crossover 1875 this week at the show at the Lund booth and its being outfitted with a 150H0 Evinrude G2!!! The price with controls and the whole 9 yards was actually cheaper than the price of the 150merc and 5k less than the 175 Verado (the 150HO will be very similar power wise). We looked at all the brands there and went in with an open mind (Other than not wanting a merc!) and after my wife and kids sitting in every brand there...the Crossover was the one for us with out a doubt! Now just have to patiently wait the 8-10 weeks until it comes in!

Congrats If I knew the etec was an option on the lunds I might of picked one up instead I got a Alumacraft with a yammi. I had an etec for 7+ years loved it.

  3. Quick story had to change the starter in my 10 year old jeep 4 months ago, tried hitting it prior to taking it to the shop, mechanic tested and replaced starter also mention had to straighten out the heat shield since it had lots of hits lol.

I guess it wasn't the starter I was hitting while on the ground at the marina when the jeep died after pulling up the boat.

  4. I worked with this girl one time and somehow she received $5000. Cant remember how, but anyways she told me she was going to put it into her mortgage. I told her she's crazy. If she did that then I can almost guarantee her monthly payments wont even make much of a difference. I told her to enjoy it and us it on a sweet vacation or two cause you never know what could happen tomorrow. Of course she didn't listen and put it towards her mortgage. Oh well

75% of my savings went into extra mortgage payments since 2002, you should see what I have now:) Very wise girl.

  5. There's thousands of VERY expensive yachts shrink wrapped and stored outside every winter with no problems and there won't be any with a tin boat either. As DanD suggested, just be sure it's done by an expert and you'll have no worries.

Very good point:) Thanks for everyone's advice much appreciated.

  6. If I was going to spend some decent $$$ on a boat, there's no way I'd store it outside, lol.

Ya this is my concern I'm planning on spending 25>30k, so its hard for me to just leave it outside if you know what I mean but I can't fit anything bigger then a 17ft in my 19ft garage:(

Thanks for the info I will check how much the winter storage would cost as I think my best bet would be to leave it at my place for the summer then wrap & store for the winter pending cost but i guess you have to pay to play.

  7. I might be finally throwing in the towel to my search to find a boat only a foot bigger(then my 16ft) that might fit in my current garage. I realize that if I store outside I can open up my options 100 fold and get a bigger safer boat. So I was thinking I can add some stones to the side of the house and store a boat there.(I have room and worst case I can move it down to an outside storage place 5 mins away during the winter months)

So my Q is for those ppl that store their boats outside are there any cons? other then the obvious(theft, animals getting in, etc) Boat will most likely be new/new last years model or slightly used very low hours depending what I find and how much I get for my current boat.

Just want to hear ppl's experiences and thoughts obviously this will be long term.

    Thanks

  8. What kind of power chocies do you have on these boats?

I have a 99 Smokercraft 178 with a Honda 150, originbally it had a Honda115. PM me if you want more info on my setup.

If you want to go closer to 50mph, get the Smokercraft with a 135-150. if you are looking for around 40mph, a 115 should get you there on both boats.

    Bill

For the princecraft max is 125hp most likely would be an optimax.

For the Smokercraft max is 150hp a merc/suzuki/etec might be avail depending where I get it from.

I'm going to wait till April and put my boat up for sale so ppl can water test it then go from there.

Thanks everyone for you suggestions/advice much appreciated.

  9. Before buying a new $30k boat I would buy a smaller boat and learn the ropes. Then buy the bigger boat. As for a tow vehicle any used Jeep for $15-20k would tow 3500#s no problem(not the 4cylinder ones tho I'm talking Liberty, Cherokee, or a Commander). No need to spend $40k just so you can tow something.

  10. The sun is pretty intense up here where there is a giant hole in the ozone so I use the wet hat trick and also wear a wide brimmed hat. Another way I use to cool off when it's stupid hot (like in Ontario) is to stop the boat, turn off and lower the engine (I have a 90) then jump overboard!!! I use the cavitation plate as a swim step to get back in the boat. If it's like 30*+ just leave your clothes on and you'll stay cool for quite a while. :thumbsup_anim:

Would using the cav plate as a "ladder" add any extra stress to the transom?

  11. After reading these posts, I spent the last hour checking bearings(jacked up and tested by pushing side to side), tighten the coupler the longer bolt through the trailer went a few more turns, checked chain bolts, checked the swing tounge bolts(8 bolts total), checked tire pressure and added air, slightly greased the coupler(where the ball goes).

    Did I miss anything?

Going on a 1000km trip tomorrow.

    Thanks
