  1. Hey all, looking for some guidance. Im having a hard time catching anything on light tackle on Lake of Bays without my downrigger. Id like to catch some whitefish and lakers. I tried the triple swivel approach drifting a few feet off the bottom with a Wabbler and a 1-2oz weight. Nothing even 3 hours in. Reading lots and lots of arches right on the bottom....30 40 even 50 arches all over each other down around 80-100ft....can get them to bite. What am I doing wrong? What else should I try? Thanks guys! Jack
  2. okokokok...my confidence in my knot tying is a 0 out of 10 ill try it this weekend...goodbye lures. Going to try to jig for the whitefish im marking on the bottom at 70 ft.... see if I can finally snag one.
  3. oops. Thought I had posted this in general
  4. Hey all, Great weekend in Lake of Bays last weekend. Some great bass fishing. I was thinking about trying braided line instead of my Rapala Finesse line. My only concern is that the braided line seems far more visible that the mono line Im using. I would rather not use any leaders when I fish...I dont like tying line directly to line. Can I go from the braided line direct to a swivel/lure? Wouldn't using a leader diminish the value of the strength of the braided line? just tyring to figure this out before I spend the 20 bux on the line... All the best, Jack
  5. Thanks for the help guys. Ill get some pics up this time. Im going to try jigging this weekend..let you know how I make out... All the best, Jack
  6. Hi everyone, My names Jack. I started fishing with my grandfather 30 years ago....stopped for a while after he passed, and Im getting back into it now that Ive hit 32. I fish and have a cottage on Lake of Bays. Lots of Smallmouth, Lake trout (my favorite) and Whitefish (2nd favorite). I bought a 14 foot aluminum boat with a 15 hp tiller and hooked up a downrigger, fishfinder, and soon a transom mount trolling motor. This fishing community is amazing! Glad I joined... I hit a 10lb laker on Lake of Bays this weekend!.....sonar showed so many fish down at around 60-80ft. I want to learn how to jig with light tackle for the lakers and whitefish. I dont know how. I also dont know what to jig... Any good resources on how to jig properly? Do let the let the line slack when letting it go back down after Ive pulled up? Really trying to learn this, as down rigging gets a little boring after a while...and the fumes from the motor are going to kill me All the best! Jack
  7. Hi all, My name is Jack. I fish Lake Of Bays for Lake Trout, and have begun rigging my 14 foot tiller with equipment. I need a fish finder. I troll with a 15hp merc 2 stroke. I don't know much about fish finders, and there a so many options. Obviously Ive been looking at the portables since its an all metal little tiller and I dont want to leave electronics on the boat. The models that I have been looking at are 1. Hummingbird Fishin Buddy all in one (clamps to the side or back of the boat). 2. Other models that use a suction cup transducer. My boat vibrates quite a bit, and is not that wide, so I have been concerned about using the transom suction cup models being close to the motor in case engine vibrations and boat vibrations mess up the sonar readings... Im also trying to keep the price at around 200-250.00 for the unit... Any suggestions? Any help would be great. Jack
