Atta boy Corey, you've come a loooong way my friend !! I remember back in the days when you were happy to catch these little guys LOLCnv2118.webp.b08819b552d1f892617900285c44d30e.webp

Lew! That boat right there was a big part of fishing life, lots of memories were made in that boat. That’s awesome that you found this picture! It’s funny, if this is the spot I think it is I lost the biggest fish I’ve ever hooked into here a couple years ago.

Oh my, another blast from the past. Well done Corey.

    Thanks for sharing

PHIL! I hope PJ and the family are well. I’ve been to the Ohio musky show the last few seasons and always think back to when we went, if you’re still in the area I’d love to get together for a coffee next year!

Awesome pics! And I'm glad your here.

TJ! If you ever want to get out for a day or evening of Musky hunting let me know, I’m out of Dokis, not far from you!

  2. Almost 12 years since I last logged into OFC. I saw a post of Facebook with some yellow jackets and grey hats and figured I would check out what’s going on in here! See lots of familiar faces, so much has changed since I was 13 years old discovering OFC with my dad, over the last 18 years one thing that hasn’t changed is my desire to chase Muskies. In 2017 I bought what at the time was my dream boat, after a boat accident and a couple boat upgrades later I am now fishing in a boat I could have never dreamed possible.  During Covid I was unable to book at Lakair lodge or Memquisit lodge on the west arm of Lake Nippissing, one place on the upper French river was allowing guests so I took advantage, after quickly falling in love with the area I decided I wanted to dedicate my time to only fishing The French / Lake Nippissing.  Last season I decided to start guiding, a life long dream that always seemed like a dream was now reality, being paid to bring people out to catch fish??? SIGN ME UP. The guiding aspect was very different, I went from bringing buddies on the boat trying to get them a fish to now needing to get people on fish, the fish cooperated quite well.  I just wanted to thank all the OG members of the community who made things so much fun when I was younger, we would have never went to Lakair Lodge/Lake Nippissing without OFC.  Here are a couple fish from my season last year: IMG_3008.png.bdefae4778c6ad73ac51eadae64b91bd.png

  3. Sounds like my kind of fight. :clapping:

Well done in landing it. What happened to your reel?

I dont really know what happened to the reel, but for a reel meant to be paired with the ML that came in the combo im not surprised though.

sweet! did you get scratched by the scutes? did they itch?

Yeah i did get scratched by the spikes (or scutes?) on the side, the reason i had to grab her like that was because when i grabbed it by the tail it kicked and almost knocked me into the water, with the fish so i decided this would be the better choice, but no they didnt itch, only thing that itched from the weekend was the bug bites.

  4. Great fish Corey. I have never caught one. Were you targeting them or were you fishing for something else? Did the fish jump at all?

We were actually targeting suckers, as thats all we really knew was there at this time of year. I caught it with a 7' MH, 12# mono, and a now broken spinning reel, with a jig and a worm. Yes the fish jumped a few times but the first jump was definitely the best as she cleared the water.

  5. We went camping on the May 24 and this was the big fish of the weekend...

    Back she goes...

    IMG_0287.jpg

Fish took me 25+ minutes to get in. Biggest fish on my life, best fight, dont know if i will ever catch another one.

Fishing is like a box of chocolates you never know what your gonna catch,

    Corey

  6. Thanks for the reply guys, it was a great moment for me and I cant wait to boat another one.

Mike, the old PB was 44".

Phil, who you calling little :canadian:

Lew and Mike, Thanks for the compliments, and Lew I just held the net and you guided her in to it ;)

Can't wait to get out again,

    Corey

  7. Went down to southern Ontario for a weekend of muskie fishing. Yesterday the rod went off again i grabbed it and after a good fight i got a beauty ski into the net...

    IMG_0290.jpg

Got a quick measurment of her... She measured up to 46.5" inches, that means its a new PB, so here she is...

    IMG_0291.jpg

    Back you go big girl...

    IMG_0293.jpg

As you can tell by pics it was pretty darn cold, but not as cold as the water was... Oh well it was all worth it!

Hope to get down there again,

    Corey

  8. I bought this rod at the spring fishing show and it is awesome for pike. It is not the cheapest rod but if you are not in a big hurry you can wait until the spring sale and get it for 30$ off. I recommend the BPS XTREME I got the 7'6" medium-heavy extra fast tip. If you have never used a 7'6" rod you will notice that you get much farther casting distance. The handle type would be personal preference. If you already have a reel I would buy some 50lb Power Pro.

    Hope this helps,

    Corey

  9. One of my goals for this year at Lakair was to keep my Lakair trips with a muskie streak going, the last two trips i had got 3. This trip kept the streak going. This was my first decent size muskie casting and I caught it on a the first bootail I made which is named the "Gay Seagull".

Here she is a beautiful 40" lakair musky there was not a single scratch on her...IMG_0172.jpg

And the release, i know she looks like she is belly up but i just put her in the water when Dad took the picture...

    Thanks for reading,

    Corey

  10. Well our annual rice lake trip with my Grandpa was last week and I had high expectations. They were all met and more. The week started off with a bang Saturday night and didnt stop until Friday night. I could talk about this trip for hours so i will try and make it quick.

Saturday night Dad and I went out for our first time bass fishing of 2008. I got the first bass boated in "Misty" for 2008.

    IMG_0020.jpg

The next day i didnt get out fishing until the night and didnt get any bass but i got a PB crappie caught on my super ultralight ice fishing rod  It was 10" which went good in the frying pan.

    IMG_0032.jpg

Monday... I know I will remember this day for a very long time. I had my PB day for bass catching 9 bass 8 of witch were caught in a 3 hour period...

First drift, brought me 4 bass...

    IMG_0035.jpg

    IMG_0036.jpg

    IMG_0037.jpg

    IMG_0038.jpg

Next two drifts brought me no fish so Dad asked "should we start our drift a little further down". "Yeah sure".

First cast DAD I GOT ONE...

    IMG_0042.jpg

    NEXT CAST...

    IMG_0043.jpg

    TWO CASTS LATER...

    IMG_0044.jpg

That is no fish story i caught 3 bass on 4 casts.

About 10 minutes later i got this little guy...

    IMG_0054.jpg

Now to this point I had already beaten my best bass day by about 5. Night comes around the whole family goes out again for another night of still fishing. Night was slow so i started casting a little spinner bait and i got this little guy. (Mom was 2 feet away when this pic was taken so thats why the fish looks so big :whistling: )

    IMG_1482-1.jpg

Today is Tuesday, I went out in the morning and i noticed the reel i caught the bass on yesterday (monday) was not working as it should be i brought it back to shore and it was broken... perfect thats all i need. Guys if you have a wife, girlfriend or mom who is always saying you bring too many rods and reels use this as an example why you do ;) We went out in the afternoon not noticing the dark clouds... Well we couldnt have been out for more than 20 minutes, and it started to pore, so rain suits on and we moved closer to the cottage just in case it started to start to thunder and lightning. It passed by quite fast so we moved back to our sweet spot and like usual it produced...

    IMG_0058.jpg

Dad got one and we tried to get an action shot of him being released but we didnt jump <_<

    IMG_0060.jpg

The night produced this nice bass for me...

    IMG_0061.jpg

Wednesday was a little slower as i only got 1 bass but it was a nice one, Dad was eating bananas in the boat every morning and it didn't seem to affect our fishing...

    IMG_0062.jpg

Thursday... again i wont be forgetting this day for a while for a good reason and a not so good one. We go out in the afternoon like we did every day. It was a odd wind today and we couldnt tell what way it was going to push us. Anyways i decided to try some pitching, and while I was fishing I went to put my foot on the side of the boat to rest my foot. As i did that we hit a wave and well over i went

So we went back in and I changed... After that it was an awesome bite for me... I got 5 bass this afternoon but only one was picture worthy...

    IMG_0066.jpg

Now this was a huge surprise to us... I hooked a fish and i got it to the boat and i was like thats not a bass... It was my PB and first ever none Nippissing walleye. I had the "JP Bushey" hold on this one

    IMG_0067.jpg

Friday the good fishing for me started at night. I caught a bunch of perch and then i pulled in the guy...

    IMG_0076.jpg

She was my new PB perch who was 12" long!

In the end I won the bass tourney 18 - 15

Out of 35 bass all were released but 2 as they were hooked in the gills and we would rather us eat them than the sea gulls.

Overall a great week. We were able to get out everyday, and for once the weather didn't scare us off the water. Fishing was great, food was good, and got to spend time with family, what more can you ask for? Lets just hope Nippissing next month will be the same... just with more toothy critters

    Thanks for reading,

    Corey

  11. Great pictures everyone.

Here is the "Misty Clan" Dog name Lainey. She is going to be four years old this summer. I still remember the day we picked her up. She is a HUGE part of the family and she knows it, heck she is on the casting deck chair.
