I mean there is some validity to the increase number of animals and humans being attacked by yotes in suburban area's. There are a few news articles a year outing attacks on toddlers in their fenced in back yards or people out for walks. In 2022 several pets were killed and several people were attacked by a yote in Ottawa's south end. The closer you get to "town" the more aggressive they become. I'm all for wildlife being around... until they are causing a problem. Last spring we had a bear in our community for a couple weeks taking down bird feeders all down the street.... thats fine and all.... but with a 5 and 4 year old playing in the back yard.. not overly keen on just letting them be around.

Hey Smitty, The guys put out in CB close to Buchhams. No activity out there other than 1 small shack. A lot of shacks at the end of peoples driveways as of Tuesday this week.

Well I finally booked the trip so now I know what we can mange. They have a generator so i'll be brining the big unit. Found a BNIB Garmin 2d/structure scan transducer for $120 on marketplace. Will upgrade to a lithium closer to the trip and feel better about the ability to locate fish in case the weather doesn't cooperate. Now the fly in planning has begun.... can't wait for June.

Not far from you CrowMan, The little trout lakes out that way have been frozen for a a few weeks now with over 6 inches of ice. Machines will be out on them now. Boy do those lakes ever get pounded with fishing pressure. Bought into an ice shack this year on the Big River..... seems to be a bust so far!

Keeping under weight is always tough. I am leaning toward the simple approach.

Gearing up for my fly in trip this year I thought about what I should bring for electronics. I usually bring a standard Helix 5 with GPS portable and a zero lines card to map out some spots. But is it crazy to think maybe bring the 9" Garmin and Panoptix? On days where fish maybe aren't where their supposed to be it would help the learning curve. Also nothing better than watching fish eat your bait while jigging on top of them. But obviously there are pros and cons. This is also assuming you have a generator to charge batteries etc... Thoughts? BM

Glad you got it sorted out... if it happens again get the Reese crimp connector. Way easier and less that can go wrong.... although a little pricey. Have had mine for over 5 years with 0 issues. Get the largest starting battery that will fit and you can afford. AGM is recommended as well. Getting 15 years out of a battery is crazy and shows you have good charging practices.

If I buy anything involving gas from someone regardless of what they say the gas gets dumped. 2-3 years would be pushing what I put through anything but a push lawn mower or weed eater. V-Power + Seafoam with every tank of gas and then Star Tron for any stabilization needs. Never a fuel issue in any small motor.

A group size 24 fits pretty decent into a medium size backpack which works great. I've done this for a few years now on a 2 portage route. fishing rods in one hand and the trolling motor in the other to a cached boat.. backpack will hold the battery, tackle and a few other light items. Has been way better than carrying any other way.

This is the type of thread that makes this forum great. Hopefully you get it sorted out... I have a similar issue with my Etec 75... looks milky at the end of the season... most likely a prop seal according to this thread! Good luck. BM

Make sure the shaft is lubricated (thats what she said) with a silicone lubricant. White lithium grease on some components inside when the side covers are off. There are a few video's on Youtube that go over things extensively. Nothing too crazy. Also what others said before about if your batteries die you are in trouble that is defiantly a thing. So you just need to be mindful of that. I just got batteries big enough to know i'd need 2 full days hard on the TM before i'd need to worry. You can manually stow the unit but then need to take it to a dealer to get it fixed after... not an easy process from what I have seen. Lots of ways to keep track of your battery voltage though...

Been running the same Ulterra since 2018 with 0 issues. Running a tiller (where I am always at the back of the boat) its a great feature when friends or family are in the boat. Then the auto trim is awesome when getting in shallow for snags etc. Like anything you need to take care of your stuff and it will last a long time. Kept in a garage and a small amount of maintenance after every trip keep it working excellent. I almost never use the pedal... the remote works great. Would definitely recommend. What I think the most useful perk is launching and trailering the boat solo. I fish solo quite a bit so personally for me I would never buy another type of trolling motor. No dock needed... no help needed. The video below is literally every time I pull up to a ramp and someone is watching. Good luck with the decision

Really like the option of Lithium's as the price comes comes down. Those CANBAT's are a decent price. The trolling motor batteries are a no brainer, but how about a starting or house battery? Can they be charged off the outboards alternator properly? How about using a ACR system to charge the starting and house? Does that need any additional equipment? I currently have 2 group 31 AGM's and 2 group 24 AGM's which equals about 220lbs of weight in batteries. I'd love to reduce that with a lithium solution. Great thread.

Its a complicated issue to which I don't think anyone has a real grasp on how to solve. What I do know is if Canada was to emit 0-C02 emissions .. there would still be 98.5% of the problem to sort out. Have the real heavy hitters make significant progress and maybe then we can fine tune some stuff on our end. Until then... I feel like I am doing enough already. Needs to be curtailed? Yikes. Do you really need a Truck? do you really need that boat? Do you really need to burn wood? Do you really need to mow your lawn 5 times a week? Do you really need to keep your house 25 in the winter?... Where does that end? Until Private Jet travel is looked at... please leave me alone. Right... so who cares about the 6.6 million or so Canadians to where all battery everything wouldn't work. As for the ice auger.... I can get in board with that.... but it's a $700-$900 ice auger... about $200-$300 more expensive that a gas auger. I use a drill myself. The tools are not on the high end... they are what a decent item costs in the battery world. I cited tools from Milwaukee, Ego, Sthil (battery), and an Ecoflow - Delta 6500w electric generator (which are awesome). Not many people who live north of Barrie would have a single stage snow blower so I stand by my Ego $2500 2 stage snow blower. And for the maintenance.. you still have belts, bearings, drivetrain, shear pins, axels, and rust that all need to be tended to. So is it really that much less yearly maintenance? I guess you don't have to do an oil change? Plus yearly v-power and seafoam which can also be used in other engines throughout the year. I'm really not against the transition for most things as an option... but extremes like what they are doing in California for example seem ridiculous. I'm fine with being the minority... it's quieter out here.... just shouldn't mean I don't matter.

$72,000 small SUV (with moderate range), $1500 push lawn mower, $2500 plastic snow blower, $400 weed eater, $700 chainsaw and a $5000 electric generator and you are ready to be battery powered self sufficient in the GTA. Hopefully you don't wreck any of those batteries because they cost 25K for the SUV and even $350 for the chainsaw. None of those items would suffice my situation. 35 minutes out of the city with a couple acres to maintain. I'll stick with my Sierra (cheaper than 72K new) , Sthil (gas), Toro (gas), Ariens and Generac (propane) for as long as possible. A much more economical option and I don't think I represent a small minority of home owners. There is a time and place for battery powered everything... but it isn't for everyone. That's the point.

Managed to "outperform the market" with small to medium cap energy stocks last year. I would agree with you analysis lol.
