  1. Does the volunteer group that is issued 'permits' from the mnr and conservation authority for the lift, have a website/title/organization attached to it ? 200 Rainbows seems like an insignificant number... IS there any public fishing opportunity on the river above the dam, or the 'sensitive brook trout habitat' the low number is 'preserving' ? We all love seeing the fish stock increase and streams being cleaned and rehabbed (see historic dam removal projects et al). What I don't like seeing is projects organized by 'neighbourhood orgs' private landowners and 'clubs' (composed of wealthy local lobbyists) who organize projects and legal documentation practices designed to appease the press, whom real agenda is keeping people away and getting kudos for it. Insurance? that made me double-take...seems a little 'fishy'. Is this what is happening there?
  2. When in doubt smile and say 'pura vida'...LOL...Your pics made me go through some of ours, its been 2 years since we been last. We are going next January with a bunch of peeps, SOME of which I can convince to go on a charter for my Holy Grail a Marlin.....Thanks for keeping the tropical buzz goin'.
  3. Great trip report, thanks for the link. Next trip try southern pacific, Jaco south to Quepos even Corcovado, huge charter fishing industry and lots of sailfish etc. The climate is a little more 'tropical' as opposed to the dry Liberia/Guanacaste region. We've been to CR 10 times and I still haven't fished, I'm ashamed to admit (We've driven' everywhere, there, though lol). Great country Great people. Pura Vida
  4. Perhaps the chamber of commerce realizes the permanent damage done to their 'tourism industry' due to selling public lands to private interests and levying non-resident restrictions. Orillia is a dump, as the town has moved to hwy 12 and 400 and west, away from the corruption. Orillia has a long way to go to get our $$$ back. Stephen Leacock would be havin' a field day with the jokers running things there.....Next up...environmental damage due to ice fisherman parking on the lake...creating their own crisis and blaming on 'visitors'...this crap has to stop...OWN your issues Orillia...its not fisherman or tourists...
  5. From Killbear, you can boat following the channel north towards snug harbour area. Sheltered boating, as you aren't on the main bay. follow channel north to cormican bay area outflow, dynamite bay to the south for pike, smallmouth at both bay outflows. Caught lakers smallies and Pike in that area. Largest was a 39" Northern on an ultralight. Didn't find any walleye, and also didn't go onto the main bay. You can keep a laker from waters n of snug harbour lighthouse I believe. We've fished this area for about 20 years now. Wifey pulled a 12.5 lb natural laker there at May walleye opener weekend, cpl years ago. Hydrographic charts are my go to. Don't have a phone or advanced electronics, just a comapass and ruler, the charts are excellent, although some of the shorline lineup sign aids have been removed, be careful.
  6. Alone in the middle of L. Ontario,in 40 degree water, fishing in a boat too small, just wear a survival suit and keep your cell in your pocket. CAA makes rescue calls don't they? A tether is not a substitute for a pfd. That kind of thinking is why I took issue with your tether purpose. Both are to be used. Tether cuts engine when operater leaves pilot chair. PFD keeps you afloat. YOU keep yourself in the boat while at the wheel. Please use common sense and try not to misinform others on function of important safety devices.
  7. It is not what a tether is for, that is a secondary effect. Runaway boat is the concern. Its about others safety NOT a somewhat negligent pilot. Pfd's are used to save your life while in the water (injured or not) tethers stop others from being injured, snowmobiles, atv bikes, the tether is the same.... cuts engine when operator is ejected. Its not about you swimming to your boat 100 yards away in a breeze, only to find you, like most boaters, cannot lift themselves into a drifting fishing boat from the water. Wear a PFD to save your life, wear a tether to protect OTHERS lives. I've been a boat tech since the 80's, driven most anything on water, ejections happen from pilot negligence/inattentiveness 100% of the time. Tethers protect others from those pilots.
  8. Remember the big push for prop guards in the 90's? Horrible looking mannatee style injuries on boaters are actually preferred by surgeons as compared to the same velocity blunt force trauma caused by a prop guard. Negligent boating results are never good, but alas , the water takes care of that. The real world is cruel to those who think they know how to 'work it', leave boating free...
  9. Tethers won't stop you from drowning. Its for runaway boats, not really for making it easier for thrown pilot to swim back before HE runs out of steam. PFD's prevent drowning, clips prevent runaway boats from killing pilot, bystanders or passengers. Education and vigilance, minimizes reliance on these 'safety items', which, ironically seem to have bred in negligence and ignorance to the lakeside recreational boating community. Strange tidbit of ECOS sometime in the 1990's Johnson evinrude went with a tether on the key switch which was kinda hard to get on the switch. When said operator was thrown from boat with tether attached in current, the passengers were unable to restart the boat, which then drifted to peril. The switch design in question had to be altered to allow for cut-off when pulled, but then immediate restart without tether afterward. Good going, effect was no one even put the tether on as it was made redundant. Another great engineering fail, which gave rise to SOLAS standards. And laws that punish operator for manufacturers oversight, and engineering shortcomings are how we are kept safe....LMAO
  10. And I hope 'good deal' meant absolutely free...don't be rough on the recoil lol....
  11. well for what its worth, some of the older smaller units just have the one screw. invert the unit once drained and patiently fill until no more bubbles (like a sea-doo jet pump). If you already took the upper screws out, make sure there is a good oring and also check there is no shift rod pivot or bearing retainer misaligned in the hole, slow and careful. You have an oldy there.
  12. Evolution... usually emission standards etc. are set by gov't, and industry evolves, you didn't notice the death of 2 stroke outboards? gov't didn't have to legislate it...brp killed it. no maker has a foot in the game 2 cycle hence NO MORE 2 cycle outboards. very quickly will availability of basic supplies evaporate. Hell, mercury carb kits for post EPA carbs (y'know the ones in the 4 strokes) no longer come with idle mix needles. Don't know about Honda's as they have always been break them off, drill them out and replace.....The brochures don't mention this stuff eh?
  13. Remembering the shear pin days,.... never bent a shaft or busted a gearcase on a silly rock, back then. prop repairs were cost efficient too. *sniff*
  14. Try taking the cap off for a bit and put it in the sun for a while...usually condensation but alcohol may have degraded the plastic. Try the sun for an hour or so...just the cap, otherwise replace the cap. Some tanks have serviceable parts, some not.
  15. All domestic marine units have had these mandatory from usgc standards since the 80's Took this long to force peeps to strap them on while underway... law is a reaction to boat owners run over by their own circling boat, yet again...whlle tether is dangling from tiller....
  16. Imma gonna nurse my 1975 70 hp Evinrude until I can rebuild my 1987 Johnson 70 hp (unfortunate lending experience) then enjoy the fresh 70 until the gas engine ban in 2035 something.... 14 years to go LOL. They'll stop selling tcw-3 in 10 years, btw...A very unceremonius death to 2 stroke boating last year. I'm too old to let go.
  17. I'm sure if the small tank is a dealbreaker, the salesman will courteously upgrade to a big boy sized tank. LOL you 4 strokers.
