Hey All,
I’ll be spending 9 days up in Lake Superior Provincial park - Sault Ste. Marie. Im looking to “dumb down” my tackle box … Im used to trolling or catching cat fish on a worm/hook.
Im looking for advice what I should bring. I’ll be bringing a medium rod … species are: pike, trout, walleye + bass and probably more.
I don’t want to bring a full box just a few lures that are basic and should be fine to use. Any tips/advice would be appreciated. I inherited a crap ton of lures so I have a lot to pick from. Thanks

Hello,
curious if the ice fishing is any good in the bay @ Rondeau ? Looking to do a quick trip Saturday, either Mitchell’s bay or rondeau (Rondeau is closer for me).
Any info would be appreciatedthanks

If you haven’t sat in a hedro for crows - that’s too bad. One of the smartest birds there is, acrobatic in the air more so than a goose/duck. Grew up learning to shoot, shooting crows. At one point farmers were paying guys to do it in Chatham.
Now every farmer I’ve talked too is gun shy due to trespassing during coyote season.
crows are listed as a nuisance who the hell eats them? Like saying people eat coyotes.

Hello,
If anyone has property south of London or up near Sarnia/Walladeburg that has crows flying constantly… please let me know. Message here or text.

Spent the day in Essex county asking farmers to shoot crows. Many that I talk to haven’t seen much. I know Chatham Kent - Sarnia - Wallaceburg is full of them but it’s a ways to go for me to spend a day asking like today.
It’s extremely sad seeing all the “no hunting” signs at farms. Most of the owners I spoke with were turned off because of the coyote hunters. They know who they are - trespassing doing whatever they want. So I got skunked today.
If anyone knows of any areas let me know. Thanks everyone. -
Hey Everyone,
just got back from Thunderbay, went up for opening rifle. Long story short we had rain non stop with tornado warnings. Worst hunting weather I’ve ever experienced. This trip was taken because we didn’t get a moose tag, went to visit a friend on private property.
I now have booked the two weeks off in November for another rifle hunt. I’m struggling choosing an area to go and try. Does anyone have recommendations east of Sault Ste Marie, I don’t think driving out to Dryden/Kenora will be an option.
Bruce mines ? Thessalon?
I don’t want to know where your best spot is.. just would like recommendations or advicethanks

no it goes with the boat which is being sold today. If it doesn’t go through I would sell with it with an extra fee

I have a BRAND NEW 15 HP Suzuki LONG SHAFT outboard for sale. I bought this in April 2021, but the dealer didn’t tell me I needed a short shaft.
I have put 7-8 hours roughly on it, using it in a creek here in Kingsville. I installed a Jack plate but I don’t like the look.
ELECTRIC START !Looking to sell the outboard ASAP to get a short shaft. Brand new $4,000 …
Send an offer and we can discuss.
just don’t low ball.
Can text 226-280-5200thanks

Too late? Most likely not. All water temp dependent.
Thanks BillM- I'm not experienced much with fishing so trying to learn as much as I can. I know how to troll for all these walleye down here, just learning to target new species. I'll have to just travel up and try.
thanks!

Hey Everyone,
Earlier this year I asked about where to go Crappie fishing... was wondering if we are too late? Unfortunately I sold my outboard and the new Suzuki just got in last week, still need to break it in! But are the crappie still hanging around Rondeau or Shrewsbury? I saw some fantastic photos from early April just HOGS!!!
TIA :D

Haven't read the comments.. just the title of the post. Ramps around here are open... Essex County. Some in Windsor have been closed... but Lakeshore just opened up/minus the facilities. Kingsville is open at Cedar Beach... even if its closed someone down there cuts the chain every time.
Was told Wheatley is open... Erieau is open.

just in time for the 2/4 long weekend
They most likely will extend it to "prevent" people from gathering. 🙄 But then Ontario Parks will lose a ton of money being the 2nd busiest weekend in the year for them... as long as they make the money.

I've been talking to locals for the last several months + some workers at the Park. It seems that May - June are the best time for getting after them. They do come up to shallow waters to spawn and by the lake map the bay is fairly shallow- not sure how accurate the map was but average was 3-4 feet. Stick to the edges sand/structure use slip bobbers etc. Shrewsbury always comes up in conversation, I'm not a local but I'm only an hour away.
Good luck I also will be up that way that weekend! As long as the ramp stays open, which I think it will.

Hey Folks,
just looking to see if anyone has a report for Mitchell’s Bay Area for ice fishing. This is my first weekend off work ... would like to try ice fishing but don’t want to travel all the way there if the ice/fishing is crap.
TIA

Well no ... the walleye have definitely impacted the perch. If you look at the stats over the last 20 years in Lake Erie you can see the difference. Some places on Lake Erie might thrive better than others... but I live down near Wheatley/Leamington (worked for the MNR too) ... the perch are definitely dropping.
Basically for the walleye, if the commercial guys + all the anglers catch their limits for the season (Lake Erie/Ontario side) ... it would be less than 1% of the population. Crazy stat yes but last year the MNR + a charter from Longpoint I believe put on a seminar about Lake Erie fish population.
also if you speak to the commercial guys down here, they do nothing but complain about;
- walleye + red drum (sheepshead).
- perch numbers are downSo it’s a catch 22 ... can’t have both striving like the walleye. But on the plus walleye smash gobies too - which the numbers don’t really show a decrease unfortunately. Eventually the walleye will drop and perch will rise again. But for now it’s some of the best walleye fishing in the country/NA.

There is ice out there believe or not, there was 3-6" were we fished, gotta be careful and spud your way out, there was even snowmobiles and quads out on the weekend ( crazy f**krs ) If you not that eventerous or familar with the area and ice in general please don't go out, if you do don't venture out past the pack ice. No ice is safe ice so please use your better judgement and if you do go out please do not go alone and bring all the necessary safety gear. Jigging the DR for walleye is my favorite time of year.
No I don’t Ice fish just looking for advice/pointers when the ice is gone

There’s ice out there ? 😳🤯
first ice out probably like end of March early April. Hopefully I have the boat ready for that and my motor comes in 🤞
Thank you for the response I appreciated it. DR is def on the list this year for walleye so I’ll have to try for the perch too!

Hi Everyone - would like to thank anyone who messaged me about the crappie inquiry at Rondeau.
Another species Id like to get into are PERCH. I searched the thread “st Clair fishing” lots of musky posts. But when does the perch season really start ? Should I go out Mitchell’s Bay or Lighthouse Cove?
Where I fish on Erie the perch are really slowing down because of the walleye. But hey I’m not complaining haha.
Thanks for any information-

We use to have a trailer located at Wildwood Park; just a few miles from the bay. My son and I spent a lot of time fishing the bay. We'd launch our 12 foot tinny and 9.9 motor at the public launch just inside the Provincial Park entrance. From there we'd head to Shrewsbury ramp and then drift whatever way the breeze took us. A simple setup of a hook, sinker and a chunk of worm was all we needed. A torn in half worm worked better: blood sent? Blue gills loved it and we'd catch a whack of them. Keep enough of the plate sized for supper and let the rest go back to grow up. If the wind was up, we'd head to the strip of shore line West Erieau channel to the main lake and anchor; wait a few minutes for a hit; if no hits we'd move a few hundred yards and keep doing that until we were on top a school. Haven't fished Rondeau for a number of years; last time it was so weedy I couldn't go a 1/4 mile without clearing the boat's prop.
Dan.
Dan thank you very much for the response, I appreciate it. I definitely got hit with the fishing bug, probably because no ice where I’m at. But I will def be going up that way to try. I also practice catch/release with anything other than the walleye. But thanks again for the help!

Thanks for the lengthy response I appreciate it. So basically I’m just going to pack some spoons 1/8-1/4 size mixed colours mainly organ but throw some green in. I have some twister tails some jigs too. I’m very familiar with the area I just never got into fishing, just hunting.
