  1. You sound sooo much like me 10 years ago, of courses its a hugeee investment. We got the cottage when the kids were in there pre-teens, the values and memories are so much greater than any retun on my investment I could ever imagine, though property values have more than X4 appreciated. I do NOT rent, but I do let close friends and family enjoy the cottage whenever there is room, for a fraction of what it would cost to normally rent. The guys that use the cottage are ALWAYS there for cutting wood, fixing a dock or any maintenace or re-modelling needed. I get almost as much joy watching my friends kids grow up there as much as I seen mine. Now that my kids are older they are now starting to help with the seasonal chores needed as well as there friends. When looking for a cottage I used this criteria,, a lake big enoughthat you can fish in, swim in and boat in, but not too big that you can't canoe or paddle boat in, as well as within 3 hrs from home so we couldgo there for jsut weekends. A lot of work? sure, high taxes,,,,,,, yup...but if this is your thing you will be repaid many times over. I have so many memories from spending many x-mas weeks up there, cuttting our own tree in the bush, to taking late night swims and popping corn till well past midnight by a nice fire. We are sooooo fortunate to have "up north" there is no place like in in the world!! Am looking forward to going up in a few weeks for a poker weekend with the guys.....good luck! :)

  2. About a month ago I found a 2006 Yamaha 350 Raptor floating tires up by my dock. I brought it to shore and reported it to the OPP. The insurance company contacted me and it was stolen months ago and the owner was paid out. I came on here for advice on my options. Tons of useful advice, thanks people.......and it worked out that the insurance company at first wanted me to buy it , I said no and that I wanted them to come and get it by July1st etc. etc......well.....they gave it to me clear and free,,,,, just doing the paperwork now, going to fix it up and try to sell it......thanks all!

  3. Cubs, Scouts, senior Scouts, fell just short of Kings Scout, due to a badly written log of a w/end trek.Learned a H*** of a lot of things, mainly I think, self diciplin[?] If all the youngsters today were in these organizations, there would be less problems in this world.

I then went on to Army Cadets, reached Regimental S/Major, then failed the Medical for the real Army. Go figure. Then I met my future lifes partner.........................

I have never heard of senior scout or king scout? Was this in Canada? I myself went from cub scout to Venturer! :)

  4. While up north at the cottage I did catch somthing other than a fish, I found a 2006 Yamaha 350-Raptor ATV floating upside down by my dock. Me and my buds managed to fish it out, out of boredom ( I am no mechanic) I cleaned it up and drained the water out, I even got it going, though the carb is plugged up, I got it going by putting gas in cylinder. I called the OPP and they came down and looked at it, it was stolen in Dec. probalby went through the ice in the thaw in early March they assume. The ppl who owned it were paid out so now the insurance company owns it. Does anyone know if I have any claim to it, meaning can I charge a salvage fee? storage fee? Its been 2 weeks and I still have not been contacted by the insurance company, I am not a storage yard, its now chained to a tree by my dock. If the owner had still owned it and he wanted it I would have jsut given it to him but now the insurance company has it, jsut curious what my legal rights are. I either want them to take it pronto or make a deal with me, either way I want it gone from my shoreline!

  5. Even though I've been to the cottage a few times so far this year, I had tonsss of work to do, but the long weekend was sooooo nice I had to get away with my bud and get a line in the water, we only caught a few small pike and a few bass, but it felt soooooo good. The fish in pic is nothing to write home about but it felt good to be back fishing again, looking forward to a great year in my slice of heaven! :)

  6. I have an older rod that I really like ,but the guides are worn and cracking. I want to change the guides, seen a replacment set at BPS but no one there had any idea how to change them. Do I cut off all the bindings off the old ones? what do you use for new bindings? can they be bought ?(apparently not at BPS) Is it best to take it in to be done professionally, and is it worth the money? I would like to try it myself but want a good job done, which I could probalby do If I had the proper materials and instruction, any help would be appreciated! :)

  7. OK yes I want the Habs in the playoffs if they don't make it I will comprimise and hope the Leafs make it just because you Leafers are so sensitive :stretcher::whistling: I would just like to see the Stanley Cup come back to Canada.

    GO HABS GO

Now thats a HOCKEY fan ppl..... well said Mike.....but you better hope Kovalev doen't get his feeling hurt so he can lead the Habs to the playoffs.

    GO LEAFS GO <wink> :)

  8. If Maple Leafs fans weren't such idiots, they would stop supporting a team that never wins until they get the right talent to win. The Leafs management are smart... why spend all the extra money on a winning team when your dumb-ass fans will always support a team they know will never win. duh.

You seem to be living in the past Corey.....that was in the day BEFOREEEE the salary cap and at that time what you say was true....but today is today. Toronto's problem is management and scouting. As for dumb-ass fans.......with your knowledge of the game who knows who you would support........probably the wagon of any winning team?? :)

  9. I agree with Rick......err on the side of caution. I am not totally in agreement with the global warming thing though the earth is going through a cycle that is not good for anyone.(which I am sure everyone agrees) Just like I remember in the 70's about the coming of the ice age it wasn't a good thing either. It never hurts to conserve and use resources wisely, waste is never good. Just like flip said, I too will use and get what I need to live comfortably and have fun in life, but I will do my part and practise conservation when making decisions, at times I'm sure a balancing act but it never hurts to do things with everyones best interest at heart. :)

  10. You seem to know your stuff Tony.....I enjoyed the show and the tips, wish it was more recent,as I am planning to go out next week for my first try at them. Will let you know how I made out, the guys I am going with have caught them before. :)

  11. I don't ice fish so I am sooooo looking forward to the spring to finally get back to fishing. A few good stories from the heartier of this bunch who do ice fish or go elswhere to fish. The thing that I really enjoy at this time of year is all the awesome tips and help that is put on this board. I think I might have to jot a few down so I don't miss any tips........hats off to those who share there tips and some secrets and I wish you all the best for the upcoming season ( it can't come fast enough for me) :)

  12. welcome aboard!!! its a great board and you will get tons of tips and interesting stories....we look forward to hearing anything you have to add.....me personally am looking soooo forward to this fishing season.....this has been a longgggg winter ( I don't ice fish) :)

  13. The only way to reduce the price is to reduce the overall demand. People can decide to use gas or not. No one is forced to buy it (previous quote) ????

In this day and age, this is soooo not true....I am one of the unfortunate ones that commutes to work and regardless what you say...I AM forced to buy it.. my family likes to eat and live just like everyone else, we all do our best, but to say we are not forced to buy it is silly. I think its talk like that which makes the oil companies use that excuse to raise prices. Even when stocks are low for whatever reasons, raising the prices stops no one from buying it,(did anyone drive hwy400 or 11 last year when gas was $150/l?? it was still packed) and the end result is bigger profits for the oil companies. In any other commodity whenever there is a shortage there are laws that prevent companies from gouging the consumer, except it seems for oil companies. I have yet to see if Wendy's has a problem with there beef production for whatever reason..does MacDonalds raise the price of there hamburgers?? NO.... Do I have the answer....no :( our only hope and recourse unfortunately is for the govt to step in.....as if :(
