Unfortunately I don't think pym or Canada camp on the attawapiskat are open anymore, all lease agreements north of the Albany river are with the local first nation's band whom I think canceled the lease with hearst air.

In my opinion most northern lakes have trophy potential but if you are wanting to target big eyes solely I'd suggest a lake not known for numbers. For example I have two camps on the Albany river which is known for big eyes, one is a insane numbers factory but big fish are caught at a lower rate then my other camp which doesn't have the hundred a day capability but constantly produces 28 to 30 inch fish. I determined it's the smaller fishes aggression is the difference and knowing how to target bigger fish is key especially in a prolific water body known for sheer numbers.
  4. Check Mike Borgers site for a trip report I believe by fishquest. It's a good report on this lake and dozens of others out of nakina by fish quest. I'm sure the walleye fishing is fantastic with the added bonus of brook trout in the cat tail river within walking distance from camp
  5. I think you will do fine there, keep in mind a lot of those lakes in that area are gin clear and may need a different approach than kapikotongwa which has a heavy tea stain. That whole kapikotongwa system from Marshall to Percy is very good, hope it didn't spoil you too bad
  6. Not within 3 hours of Toronto but the best provincial Park with those species is easily quetico.
  7. Maybe 6 hours won't cut it but you could try little abitibi lodge in cochrane. Good area and they seem to get some good catches.
  8. Surprisingly not much, it's not uncommon to be out there for days without seeing a boat. Nipigon is probably the best drive to fishery on the world, I think it's low traffic is due to the intimidating nature of the lake. It can go from glass to 6ft rollers quite fast. As Chuck noted above onamans is a great launching point. You can fish ombatika Bay and have some shelter around islands, the bay has extraordinary pike with fantastic walleye up by the jackfish River. Lake and brook trout not far from the onaman River outlet to the main lake
  9. I bought two 9.9 suzukis in 2018 for my camp. Initially I thought they were the lightest 9.9 on the market which it was prior to these new efi's which are now the heaviest. Motors work fine, great on fuel but the bottom ends are as fragile as fine China. They certainly haven't served me well at all.
  10. I don't recommend driving the caramat road from manitouwadge to caramat at night. The road can get very rough from logging trucks, it's very curvey with lots of ups and downs. I just take white river though hornepayne then west on 11. Safest bet
  11. Water is extremely high right now, they have opened the waboose and summit dams currently. Everything including the spawn is two weeks behind so in 3 weeks it should still fish like early June. The reservoir is full of lumber so if I were you I would focus on mojikit. Check out Mike Borgers site for his trip report on mojikit or contact Chris Brock on here he was there with Mike. Great fishery
  12. You can get a new tohatsu 9.8 for under 3k. Everything is four stroke except evinrude which still has a oil injection style 2 stroke. If your looking at no frills but tough I really like my tohatsu. They make the engines for mercury. I have a few Mercury's at my camp and they are fine except guests can't seem to figure out the tilt. I have 2 suzukis 9.9 efi, bottom ends are built with junk light cast even though the unit itself is 40 lbs heavier than a mercury. Don't recommend. The Yamaha I have is fine but I get complaints about the idle on a troll. Imo buy a tohatsu, you can even buy it on online outbards.com and save a bit more.
  13. If musky is a must try the Ottawa River region, not sure about lake trout though
  14. Unorganized townships are just areas with no local government or services, land in Unorganized townships are in demand because of low taxes and no permits required but tread carefully because anything built still needs to be done to code and if the area falls under a waterway or conservation authority they can make you take it down. The taxes are paid directly to the province but if you need police, fire or ambulance service that comes from a organized township then you may be billed directly. Municipalities have been in the courts with the province for years over costs incurred by servicing Unorganized areas. Highways through these areas are generally provincial /federal or maintained by logging or mining companies.
  15. If your a trout fisherman you probably chose Aubrey for the specks in the bad river, eastern ontario is in far better shape for water levels then the west so you should do good for brook trout. As far as pike and walleye go those cochrane lakes are usually tea stained and not terribly deep so finding them shouldn't be hard, troll until you get hits then jig or cast.
  16. St Joe's would be hard to beat, never fished the otoskwin river but always wanted too. The menako chain of lakes are good, Pipestone river west to horseshoe and winidgo are good as well.
  17. Miminiska lodge has a air strip for wheeled planes, contact wilderness north and ask if you can provide your own charter. Most remote first nations have air strips too, you could look into that as well
  18. Great to hear that the camps from muskoka to temagami are booking up and it sounds like your after good accomadations with easily accessible water. I would look at the lodges between sudbury and the sault like waterfalls, birch or laurentian. This stretch is usually more dominated by American guests so openings shouldn't be a issue.
  19. Four cancellations today alone, the news of the border closing was tipping point where the gravity of the situation set in. Today the US government stated it's looking at a 18 month fight.... hope it doesn't take that long, china seems to be winning their battle 80 days in. I hope every other country suffering can duplicate those results. Ultimately let's all do what needs to be done to stay healthy, let's not trade a 2020 trip for many more trips in the future over next multiple years. Wishing everyone a healthy 2020
  20. Like bunk said it's just advertisements, it's the top 5 walleye lakes fishin canada has done a promo on this season. Theres so many great walleye destinations I'd hate to pick 5 and defend it.
  21. Lady Evelyn or ramsey lake north of sudbury would be my choices.
  22. Depends which body of water your on, some nakina lakes produce better numbers then size and some produce big fish. I find the lakes with major inflows have bigger eyes. The Albany river produces big walleye, it has a lot of camps to choose from. Theres no shortage of 24plus fish in percy or stone either. Hope Chris Brock chimes back in hes been to a ton of awesome spots from Cochrane to red lake
  23. Great write up, I remember when miminiska was practically a unknown with a couple decapitated camps on it. The secret got out and now look at that operation!
  24. Try a.m.s or nakina north out of nakina, stone lake or percy. For a thousand a head those are great bangs for the buck and luenbergers also have some in that price range.
  25. Advantages I hear are they are clean, slightly quieter and better economy if not run full bore often. I'm surprised merc hasn't brought this to the table earlier considering tohatsu builds all their motors under 10hp and tohatsu has had them on the market for about 3 years now. I might try one of these for next year, I think it would work great for portaging being light and a small propane bottle would make things easier. Lehr makes nothing but propane outboards from 2- 9.9hp but mixed reviews.
