Try out Falls Reserve Cons. Area in Benmiller near Goderich. Great swimming in the river (all flat bedrock) several ponds stocked with bass, panfish and trout and the fishing on the Maitland is great for bass. If the fishing slows down you can wade in the river forever looking for minnows, crayfish, bugs, etc It's a very kid friendly area. Some time around bass opener they have a kids bass derby in the ponds with lots of great prizes for them. My son is also 7 and he loves the place jjcanoe

I've had 2 rapala rods for about 3 years now, one broke the first season I got it when I was pike fishing and didn't notice the swivel attached to the leader got wrapped around the tip of the rod when a pike was in the net. The other has been a great rod for the last 3 years. I got them both at Walmart in a clearance bin and had never heard of them before but the price was better than right so I got 2 of them. I also have a Rapala trolling rod which I got at Lebarons and haven't used it a lot yet but it has caught me a few rainbows out on lake Erie last year. jjcanoe

Getting back to your post Kickingfrog, any kind of jig imitating a leech in Black is also the #1 colour for myself when I've made the trip to Algonquin, as far as other lures go, Gold Minnowbaits (rapalas etc) work great for trolling and don't give you the hassle of line twist like a spinner or spoon. If you're going in the spring don't worry about fishing deep water since most of the fish will be in the cool upper part of the lake. What part of the park are you going to? jjcanoe

The RFID chip has a range of about 4 feet so it's not like a they cantrack you via satellite, they need to be standing right beside you with a reader to get any information from your chip.

I went to Florida when I was 15 with my family and came home with a Snake lure. It had a hard hollow head with a hook built into it and you could add just about any type of larger sized plastic worm to it. Pretty good design but not practical for the north with our "smaller" bass. Last time I remember using it was when I cut the hook off and played with the cat in the backyard casting and reeling slowly and watching it stalk and pounce on the snake head. I was also gifted a box of "flying lures" when I was a bit older. They sat around unopened for about 7 years before I finally figured out that they were great for Pike fishing. The "flying "action looked real yummy to the pike around here and they would just smack them on the drop when everything else including minnows didn't seem to work. They are probably one of the first tube jigs I ever used. jjcanoe

Here's my story... Springtime fishing In Algonquin Park with a 5' browning ultralight rod and fenwick ul reel spooled with 4lb line, We were casting out of the canoe towards the shore and catching a few unremarkable smallmouths. I hear a splash behind me out in the open lake and cast towards the ripples. AW CR@P! I'm snagged. Rick and I start paddleing in the direction of my "snag" which starts to move. Cool, fish on! I've fished in Algonquin park for years before this and caught some large trout but this was giant. It did what it wanted, when it wanted, we didn't see it for a good 20 minutes. When I caught my first look at it all I could see were white spots on a green background. WOW GIANT LAKER! or so we thought. A few minutes later we got a real good look at it and the Lake trout had sprouted fangs. Holy Cr@p It's a pike. This kind of threw me for a loop since I had never caught a pike in the park before and totaly wasn't expecting to catch one on this lake (remember the 4lb line ultralight rod and reel and of course you don't need a steel leader for trout fishing!). Finally the pike has tired itself out and sitting at the side of the canoe I measured it against my 53" paddle and it comes up 3" short. We decide that the fish is NOT coming into the canoe. Rick paddles us over to the nearest accesible shoreline with me holding my fishing rod in one hand and the pike (still in the water) with my other hand under the gill plates. Not sure of the best way to get out of the canoe and onto the shore with a large pike attached to me I jump out of the canoe into thigh deep water and get a good grip on him for a picture. This was the first time ( and also the only time) I had brought a disposable camera on one of my canoe trips. By the time The camera was set up ( wound and flash charged up since it was getting dark out) the fish had been revived, when we paddled it to the shore, enough to chomp down on my thumb and struggle enough to make me lose my grip and plop itself back into the water before the pic was snapped. 5 more seconds is all I want back! but at least I have one witness!

I have a 2005 ram 5.7L hemi I get about 16MPG with a tonneau cover installed. about 14MPg without. Mine is older and doesn't have the MDS (shutting down 4cyl when city driving) so you could expect better mileage than I get. As long as your not heavy on the pedal from start up you should be fine. jjcanoe
