Embarrassed to say only  ONE FISH!

    HELP

The best time to fish there is in the middle of September when the 70% of water from the reservoir is gonna be drained into Grand river. You do not even need a boat at that time. SM basses and pikes will attack your lures like crazy. You can see that on the lureme’s pictures (2nd and 3rd).

  2. For a last couple of months have you given your key and clicker to someone? If yes. Do you really trust him? That's the easiest way to make a duplicate of your key, chip and clicker and use them or to sell them to requester.  I mean some mechanics including Canadian Tire, Act Green & Ross etc,

  3. other spot than the dam?

I fish from the railway embankment in the bigger portion of the lake. However, it’s prohibited. I think now, when Mountsberg is drained, you cannot find some deep enough spots for casting spoons or minnows. Unless you use heavy silicon baits on the offset hooks without waits.

  4. In Port Dalhousie I had god luck with medium or large size hammered Little Cleos - chrome with blue or green stripes. In windy days I use chrome Kastmasters or their clones.
Using spoons is not easy way to get a brown there but it more professional way of fishing.

All novice anglers there use bottom row-bag or strimmer bottom bouncing techniques.

  5. Not so many walleyes there; however, pike fishing is good on the opener.

The best place – close to Percy Boom Haven, just around a Heron Island (big willow tree with heron nests) .

For Walleyes you would rather go to lake St. John (Casino Rama)

  6. I consider myself fairly literate and I have no idea what you meant in both statements.

If you detach the hook(s) from the lure you perform blank fishing. Means no damage to fish at all, but if you use very thin braded fishing line you will feel when the fish attacking your lure.

  7. I was there on Easter. I removed an anchor from the spoon and cast for 3 hrs. I had only one hit. There was a huge winter kill in the bough lakes. The small Bird Lake was full of dead fish (mostly bass like) and smelled like sewage.
Last Saturday I visited Puslinch Lake; I saw dead fish along the shore line. If the same happened with Little Lake in Orangeville we got a huge pike and bass loss in the closest to Toronto the most productive lakes/ponds.

  8. I use Frenwick spinning rod and Pflueger 6925 reel with 6lb Cajun mono line.

Do not be cheap on Ultralight. You can save money on muskie/pike rod but not on this one.

Using that rod I got a carp in 11lb; it got my jig when I was fishing for bass. I also got a pickerel around 4.5lb and 5lb pike. Basses in 2 – 3.4lb are very common as well when you are targeting some smaller species.

  9. Very much the same observation as you did, oates.

I usually fish between Caledonia and York using jigs with lightest heads and cranks. The beginning of the year (Walleye opener) was OK, after that just ugly pigs (cats) and nothing else. In the middle of the summer when the heat came there was nothing just may be a couple of rock basses. However, 3 weeks ago the situation was changed - almost the same as in 2008, but without walleyes. I always took a limit releasing the smallest one from the chain when a small mouth got my jig. Eventually, the smallest one on the chain was about 700g (almost 2lb) and the biggest 1.5kg. 2 weeks ago a rainbow around 4-5lb hit the crank, but I couldn’t manage it with my U-light rod and 4lb line. When the cold came, everything has gone. I am not counting on steelheads because for crank and meps they are not common at all there. Fishing using roe is not sporty for me at all.

Today I saw a Chinese guy who always fishing at Dunnville dump. He got pickerels as usual. I have never seen he got none. However, nobody got something to put on the chain – just him. I looked at his wrist – really nice work jigging for walleyes.

  10. I think salmon fishing is not even fishing at all – snagging in all situations. Salmon is not feeding when it goes into home rivers for spawning. I hope MNR will stop that! Even in Ontario, during the summer time, on the big boat is not a challenge to take out of the water a huge pig using heavy equipment. Drink and watch – girls can do that! The real challenge is to take out on the shore a 8–10 pound pike or muskie using ultra light road with 4 lb line without any boat and landing net.

  11. Uh no you can't chief.

At least we found one person here that targets out of season fish.

Good job, you should be banned.

I don't target any specific kind of fish. Sometimes I take a fishing rod and come to the pond, take a worm and put it in the water and look at the floater. How can I determine that bass or trout or pike is taking my worm (usually sunfish)?

    Can you explain that?
