  1. I am lucky to live 500 meters from Al Flahertys As mentioned in the post, their plastics selection is very very very (can i say very again) limited. Seems they are a bit more salmon/pike/musky etc etc oriented. They only have about 6 type of spinnersbaits in the entire place. However their selection of inline spinners, spoons and crankbaits is very extensive. Basically, they have the necessities without going overboard, while only carrying higher quality products. Dont expect to purchase a bunch of rapala knockoffs, or crappy daredevil copycats. Its the real deal or its not carried. For the salmon and trout trollers out there, they have a decent selection of dreamweaver flashers and flies. When it comes to Hooks, weights, trebles, leaders and swivels, their selection is on point and well priced. The place still has a mom and pop shop feel so any time you ask a question, I am pretty sure you are speaking with the owner/manager and he knows exactly whats in stock.
  2. ive followed a moose on the snowmobile trail..they dont seem to want to jump back into the deep snow... As far as trying to intimidate them to go back into the bush...my dad will tell you a story about a moose that decided it wanted to fight his car. So forget that!
  3. well considering the fact that I cant even use a baitcaster, i wouldnt worry about it ahhaa. ive used one of those trigger spinning reels just totally forgot they existed....that would be perfect! thanks for the tips
  4. do you guys find that the little guys have a bit of a hard time operating the bail on a spinning set up? he definitely gets the idea of jigging, but his timing isnt the best yet...more practice will help. I still would like to teach him to actually operate the bail, let out line etc etc.
  5. send some this way!
  6. we actually remove the trolling motor entirely every time we stop fishing as we lock it up while we are gone for weeks at a time. So we definitely have attempted to unplug and plug in the motor as the plug is easily available. No dice.... We actually dont have a foot pedal as we are in a 16 foot glass tron. There really isn't anywhere to put a foot pedal, hence the i-pilot. I read in some other forums that people were claiming that the card can get scrambled if it gets bumped? Im not sure how thats possible, but maybe? are these things really that breakable? That a small bump causes the entire thing to fail? What is supposed to happen if you are driving through chop?
  7. I am slightly worried we wouldnt have an invoice...we might also just barely exceed two years...yes its 2 years old, but we didnt use the thing for almost a year while we attempted to rig a good mount for it on our fibreglass boat. I would say the motor has been used less than 20 times.
  8. good to see you have a good guide to control to trolling motor to make sure you actually fish the good spots
  9. Hey guys, My dad and I are fairly new to the world of trolling motors, but our new new minnkota powerdrive V2 with i-pilot that we got last year decided to start acting wonky this weekend. The unit appears to have awareness of the controller, reads as charged, beeps when started and even will turn...however no matter what we try we cant get the propeller to engage. At first we considered if it was a shear pin, but from what we can see there is no shear pin in this model, we also haven't used the troller for any shallow fishing recently so it definitely hasn't hit anything. The thing is still mint, yet for some reason you can set the speed and hit the propeller button, and nothing... Anyone have any ideas or similar experience? Ive read some stuff about the brains in these things are garbage? I was wondering if this is a common problem and maybe have some insight before we go out and spend another 100 bucks trying to fix it. Thanks,
  10. saw my first gar pike on the weekend living in the weeds infront of my cottage...grow baby grow!

  11. ahaha wow, that fish is as wide as him! Can i ask, what type of set up do you have him using? It would be good to get my nephew something that he can actually learn to fish on now. He can cast and reel etc, he just doesnt have anything that is easy for him to handle for his size.
  12. guys with the seafoam suggestion... ive seafoamed a car, never an outboard...where are you dumping the stuff? my old 15 gunked up this weekend and left me stranded out on the lake this weekend. Weve taken the carburetor apart and cleaned it out. Where are you dumping it while its running?
  13. Success! A small piece of worm covering the hook worked the best, ditched the bobber and jigged away...caught 12 fish, mixture of sunfish, rock bass, perch and blue gills. Now ive got him asking me to go fishing! He is still nervous about touching and holding them so i spent the time taking a lot of fish off. we collected them in a big tupperware container full of lake water and he was mesmerized! His small rod wasnt the best due to the crappy mono with crazy memory on it. Was having a hard time keeping the line tight for hook sets. Now with a little practice on his jigging we will have to get him going for the fall pickerel run!
  14. nothing like being able to go for a run at 2 in the afternoon and be totally comfortable. Even better is sleeping at night and riding my bike to and from work in the mornings without being a sweaty pig by the time i get to work or home.
  15. Pointe au baril for the weekend, Largies tomorrow morning (hehehe start the weekend off early)...pike during the day...and either back to largies for the evening or out for some walleye in the shawanaga river with my dad if hes up for it. Dock fishing for pike and largies saturday morning and then I will probably take my nephews out in the tinner for largemouth and pike in the evening. Next weekend though is what I am really excited for, my dad and I are heading to parry sound harbour to run the sunset lakers...staying the night in the boat and trying again at dawn.
  16. hahah that photo of him at 4 holding the bass...just looking like an old pro. Awesome
  17. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2011/03/22/bald_eagles_return_to_lake_ontario_shore.html Does anyone know what came of this?
  18. that cat was massive...I hope its real...and this all makes sense. Just because we dont have a photo of one of them doesnt mean that they are around. There have been so many sightings that you know that it had to come true eventually. I love hearing stories about previously "area extinct" animals now reclaiming habitat e.i. bald eagles in the GTA, cougars etc. Hopefully we continue our efforts on reducing our impact on our environment.
  19. Sounds like a good plan when you now have an excuse for your wife to be fishing all the time "honey i'm doing it for the kids!"
  20. This is super encouraging to hear, im amazed that the 5 year old can already bait a hook and take fish off, thats bloody awesome. My nephew is a little high strung yet to bait a hook that's for sure. He is a super well behaved kid and always listens etc. He just really gets pumped up when cool things happen, I.E. if he catches a fish hes going to lose his mind ahahhaa I am actually really looking forward to trying this. @imperial angler: Its easy to have 24 year old girlfriends when you are 26 lol I hope his tiny mickey mouse rod can handle a sunfish!
  21. hmmm the idea of the blue gills and sunfish in a bucket sounds very cool.
  22. Hey guys, I have a nephew who is 5 years old, he loves to come out on the dock (lifejacket always on of course) with me while I am fishing. he brings his little Mickey Mouse special rod with a jig weight with the hook removed and will spend a fair amount of time with me out on the dock casting away. Typically, his imagination is so vivid that it keeps him entertained, however I am wondering what techniques and tips you guys might have for keeping the young guy calm but interested. There are tonnes of panfish around for him to definitely reel in on a bobber or the like. The biggest challenge is that he is a pretty intense little guy so swinging hooks around isn't necessarily the safest thing for him to be engaging in... (you should see him cast, he outcasts my 24 year old girlfriend)
  23. Pumped, just got added to the OFC tourny...time to do damage

  24. i need to start teaching my nephew to fish. So far we have only allowed him to use a weight with no hook because he is a total madman...I wonder if I got him to catch a sun fish on a bobber if it would calm him down enough....
  25. stunningly huge and beautiful fish. Unbelievable the sheer quantity of 40+ inch fish...great report.
