  1. I was doing some research and I found this info here... https://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/threads/tranx-300-400-301-401.646690/ Tranx 300/400 The Tranx family is now much larger and more diverse. Shimano created the large low profile reel market with the Tranx 500 model. The addition of the 300 and 400 sizes provides heavy duty low profile reels for multiple applications. We took several steps to improve durability for the saltwater market as well as the demanding freshwater anglers. Available in both right and left hand models in two gear ratios. The compact body design allows for increased comfort and ergonomics. The physical size of the 300 is smaller than the current Curado 300E. We made the spool slightly taller to improve casting performance. It also aids in line pick up when using a slower gear ratio. Coreprotect is a feature that we have been using in our spinning reel models for a few years. This is a water resistance design to prevent water entry in susceptible areas of the reel. We have now added this feature to the Tranx 300/400 model reels. Worm shaft seal: The first area where water can enter the reel, when sitting in the rod holder taking ocean spray, or while fishing with the reel. Anti-Reverse bearing seal: This is a common area for water to enter the reel from heavy spray on those rough days. Seals are used on both sides of the bearing to eliminate water from getting into the bearing. Frame Seal 1: The pinion support bearing is a common area for corrosion when used in saltwater. We have made design changes to the spool and frame to eliminate water from entering this area. A special seal was also added to further reduce the possibility of water getting into the bearing and gear box. Clutch Button Seal: Another common area for water to enter the reel from both spray and use. A seal has been added to the inside to keep water out. Frame Seal 2: Special grease has been used between the side plate and frame to prevent entry through this area. A special clutch retention mechanism was developed to prevent the clutch from tripping on a hard cast. We further reduced the chances for the clutch to trip by use of a new carbon handle knob (HG only). This greatly reduces the weight of the handle knob and inertia when casting. The drag range has been adjusted for use with heavier lines. The drag curve is very steep and is appreciated when fishing with heavy braided line and leaders. Gear strength and durability has been increased greatly over Curado 300E model. 6. You can exchange for a ice transducer for free http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/FAQ/TransducerExchange/

  8. How big are the minnows?
  9. Thanks http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/FAQ/TransducerExchange/
  10. Thanks guys. I'll go with the Sonar unit
  11. I found these 2 units at my local CT. Humminbird Helix 5 Sonar Fish Finder $159.93 http://www.humminbird.com/Products/HELIX-5-SONAR/ Humminbird Helix 5 DI Fish Finder $194.93 http://www.humminbird.com/Products/HELIX-5-DI/ I was looking to convert one of them for ice fishing. Anyone have any experience with these units? Which one would you recommend? I'm a complete noob when it comes to fish finders.
  12. I did the old days when I was in HS. Our science class did a 2 day trip to Lake Simcoe. They provided us with wooden tip ups and a bucket of minnows. I remember them telling us to drop our bait to the bottom and lift your bait a foot or 2 off the bottom. This trip was so much fun, I only went so I can get out of school.
  13. Feels like -53
  14. I thought most people keep fish when caught through the ice. Yea, I agree that one is a bit on the small side. The pike I catch are from Lake Ontario and I release 99% unless it was fatally wounded. Also I don't eat fish much and not from Lake Ontario, I'm sure they're safe to eat but I don't think I can do it. If I were to try ice fishing this year in Lake Simcoe, I would like to keep some jumbo perch and a pike for the table.
  15. ^^^ I was thinking of those rods and I was thinking of buying a tip up. If I were to go ice fishing it would have to be with someone who has all the gear or rent a hut. Buying a flasher would be sweet but I don't think that's in my budget just yet.
  16. Sweet outing. Is their a reason why the pike was released? That looks like to be a nice size white perch, I never caught one before.
  17. For a person that's looking into ice fishing for the first time. What's a good rate for a hut that supplies the gear and bait?
  18. Do these lures ever go on sale?
  19. Wow, that's so unprofessional of them.
  20. Haha.... I have so many items on my watch list. If my items do go on sale, I have to find $35 worth to get free shipping
  21. Thanks David for the recommendation. As for the Calcutta Conquest, it went over what I wanted to pay. I'm actually thinking of pulling the trigger on a Shimano Curado 301E for $340 tax in. Anyone here own this reel? If so what do you like to throw with it? I was also thinking of buying another setup down the road that can handle bigger baits with a one piece st.croix rod. But for now I think the curado 301E and a 2 pc st.croixpremier might be it at the moment.
