  1. Hahaha that would be funny in a bad way! That is why I picked that name cus I figured it was only a matter of time!!
  2. Ya I'm real leary of big water. With the 30 on it I top out at 25 mph loaded with two guys. I'm planning on sticking close to shore either way. This is going to be more of an exploration trip in preparation for towing up my 20 foot whaler with all the down riggers and stuff for big lakers.
  3. We may head to the islands just to fish but I only have a 14 tin deep and wide with a 30 hp two stroke on it so we will see what the lake looks like first.
  4. Crown land would work for me as long as I can get the boat in the water. Been looking at a pile of google maps and other info and it sure looks like a tough lake to get onto. No matter which way we go about it it's going to be allot of driving around and looking.
  5. I'm trying to nail down a location for good size Brook Trout up near Lake Nipigon. I've been reading that the Nipigon River also has some good sized fish. Does anyone know of campground or cabin rentals along the Nipigon River? I've googled and only found a couple of possible places.
  6. Thanks Freshtrax. I was wondering about the bears in the area. If Nipigon is not a go we may try and rent a cabin in the area and just trailer the boat around to different lakes.
  7. I read the brochure from Poplar Lodge and it said the Marina is 5 km down the road. I don't want to leave my boat overnight anywhere so I don't have to unload it and load it every day. Getting old.
  8. I'm starting to plan for an upcoming trip to Lake Nipigon. I've been looking for campsites and boat launches. I see Poplar Lodge Park up there and i'd like to know if anyone knows if they have a boat launch? There is also an un-serviced Ontario Park there but they also have no info on boat launches. I read some where that they also opened a Marina called High Hill Harbor Marina but can't find any info on it. Any info would be great thanks.
  9. I have an 04 CRV and I tow my 14 deep and wide with a 30 hp two stroke and three batteries on board with all the gear. No idea how much it weighs but I've never had an issue on the road or highway. Launching sometimes I get wet if the ramp is very shallow. It's a 5 speed standard and i'm still passing everyone in sight! Just make sure your tongue weight is below what that car calls for.
  10. We've used Reeds on Nippising for about 6 years now. Great set up with the two huts. One for fishing and cooking and other just for sleeping in a nice dry, not smelling of fish or cooking!, sleeping hut. We bring a buddy heater for the outhouse! Great service. Have also tried most outfitters on Temagami. Nice and remote feeling up there in the winter.
  11. Fantastic trip. How long was that first flight from Air Base to the Main Camp?
  12. I'm getting a gica box soon with an atcs receiver built in that will allow me to attach my Over the Air Antenna. From what i've researched this Gica box 'should' handle it's own upgrades as needed. Costs about 230 buck with that atcs part. I will post back when I get it.
  13. I have an older Sylvan Sport Troller 14 footer. It has the open floor and a 2 stroke 30 hp Yamaha on it. With two guys and all the gear I go 27 mph. With only me I can go to 29 mph. It was a beater when I got it and after replacing about 200 rivets it now doesn't leak. Only cost 3500 for the whole package
  14. I was there in August for three days. Launched and stayed at a campground right in the town of Kipawa. I got nothing the first two days but on the third I got 9 nice pickerel in three hours. Drifting with the wind along the side of an island in 30 fow. Green propeller jig with a worm did the trick. Your areas all look promising though. I tried the worm harness for awhile but it was too windy and I kept losing contact with the bottom. Good luck
  15. Sounds like a great experience. We were up that way along the James Bay Highway last summer and the fishing was great at all the drive in spots we hit. Not even one bug bite! The Cree we met at the Village of Chisasibi (?) were all very friendly and happy to see tourists coming to their town. A case of water there was 27 bucks! And they didn't sell Ice anywhere!!
  16. There is a battery rebuilder at Victoria Park and Gerrard in Toronto. This guy takes your battery and guts it and puts in heavier plates and refills it for around 100 bucks. You should be able to find another guy closer to you.
  17. I wouldn't be shooting an out of season bear. I figure if I got me a tag and brought the gun with me camping if an opportunity presented itself during the shooting hours I could possibly get one. I have never bear hunted so have no idea where to go and how to bait them. Just getting lazy I guess and hoping for a suicidal bear.
  18. I've been thinking of getting a tag this year. Lets say I was out on an island camping outside of the Massassauga Park and I shot a bear that came to camp during the daylight. Would I be able to tag that one and keep it? Never bear hunted but I'm just curious.
  19. I camped at the Moon River area for two days last week. Two nights in a row I heard a loud tearing and ripping noise. Turns out it was a bear ripping into a chicken coop. On the second night the owner went out and shot this bear. I checked out a bunch of camp sites in the area and there are now big green steel boxes where campers are supposed to put their food into. I talked to Park staff and they said not too many campers are hanging their food properly and the bears are coming into the sites and scaring them off so they added the food boxes. Fishing was good for bass and pike but no walleyes or musky this time out. Great area up there with loads of fishing structure.
  20. Thanks guys. Great info.
  21. Fantastic catch! You are never going to forget that one!
  22. Great tips guys. Heading back the second week of august for another try.
  23. I got tired of losing salmon tackle so decided to head up to the Moon River area. I hit the usual spots in Arnolds and Woods Bay as well as Blackstone l with no luck. Water was 76 degrees everywhere. I tried fishing the deeper drops around 25 to 30 feet down and no luck. I trolled deep diving baits as well as jigged and cast to shore. Is there anything else I can try to get some Pike to bite in such warm water?
  24. Is this Etec a long or extra long shaft?
  25. Great tips and info. I'm not sure I can wait till next year though! On further looking at maps of the area I see there is a Gorge Rd off of Hwy 11 north of Nipigon. Has anyone camped along this road and launched a 14 foot boat? I remember fishing Lake Jean up there along time ago but can't remember how to get to it but would like to try some of the other lakes along this road in case Nipigon is too windy.
