"What do you call someone that came dead last in their medical class? Doctor" I love this. And it's true for all disciplines. Turns out I was dead last in my engineering class (after the other 50% got weeded out). But I like to think I'm an okay engineer. A good student doesn't always make a good employee. And vice-versa. But there is some major validity behind your statement. Be doubly careful with your pain meds folks. You can get addicted to oxys within a week of normal use.

nf Government coming after me for taxes that I've already paid

License plate stickers are yet another example. Why are they even needed on a yearly basis? Why not autobill my credit card or something? -
Word of advice, it might be time to "hang up the gloves" on any intense sport. Not sure if you even partake... but knee ligament injuries seem to re-occur in many people, especially if the injury was the result of wear and tear. If it was a freak accident, then maybe not.

A Sutton River & Trout Fishing Specktacle.

Nice one Bunk. I'm about half way through. "the only real thing missing were soft, beautiful and horny women." This and the picture of the log got me in stitches! You sir, will be on your deathbed with no regrets! -
Or worse? The maximum penalty for copyright infringement is $5000 and only applies if you've financially benefited from pirating. Some do, some don't. As of this year, Cogeco and Bell don't. Those are the two largest ISPs in Canada. It may vary regionally. Absolutely false, unless they launch a lawsuit, which never happens. The average user will end up using a free VPN that is packed with malware. Here's a study that found 75% of free VPNs are tracking you; https://research.csiro.au/ng/wp-content/uploads/sites/106/2016/08/paper-1.pdf

My guess is he fell into the water and the boat got away due to the trolling motor.

Absolute tragedy. I hope videos of the event are found, even if kept private, because his family will need the closure.

nf Government coming after me for taxes that I've already paid
Sterling replied to Sterling's topic in General Discussion
I feel your pain. As Canadians we pay some of the highest taxes in the world, and they just keep coming for more and more. Allow me to join the venting party... Nastiest story I heard was from the sister in law, she worked as a teacher at one school for 2 months, and another school for 10 under the same employer. She received her T4 in the mail and sent it to her accountant who filed her taxes. Turns out she should have received TWO T4s; one for each school. The first didn't come in and she didn't know. CRA mails her stating she didn't declare both her T4s and she owed $6000. $2800 in unpaid taxes, $2800 FINE and the rest in interest. She was young a the time, maybe 24, and had just bought a house. Talk about brutally punishing middle class people. Just ruthless. What really gets me is that if the CRA has a record of your T4s, why not just mail you a tax bill after assessing them??? And any adjustments to that you can file yourself? So dumb. And then there's out outdoor card & fishing license website. Forces you to log in and create an account but keeps NOTHING on record. You can't even reprint your license online or check whether yours is active (at least, last I checked). I once paid twice due to their buggy website and was unable to get reimbursed after endless running around. Reprinting has to be done in store and costs $10, what the hell? I did a "leadership" course for work that costs $10,000 over 3 days (Niagara Leadership Institute). There were leaders from all sorts of private companies there, and you guessed it, a dozen government employees from questionable backgrounds. One that I can remember was a cantine lady. Seriously? A crazy coincidence is that one of my teammates (sitting at my table) was the lady running the entire government outdoors website / program. I told her I had a bone to pick with her and described all my issues. She couldn't offer up any solutions of course. Later she describes her workplace as totally dysfunctional and borderline corrupt. Sorry for rant folks, now I'm worked up. -

.... Debit card at the government institution. Hadn't thought of this option. The transaction will be on record. THANK YOU. -
It's a generalization, but it's true that African Americans and Asian folk aren't as strong swimmers as Caucasians. African American children are 3.1 times more likely to drown. There are some interesting studies on the subject. Probably has to do with cultural upbringing etc and doesn't apply to Kevin. I'll leave it at that because I don't want to derail this thread. Again, I do NOT believe this is a relevant fact regarding this tragedy.

nf Government coming after me for taxes that I've already paid

Bought the boat privately, taxes were settled from me to the government directly. -
I just got a letter in the mail from the Ontario provincial government asking whether I paid taxes on my boat. I bought it in 2015, sold it in 2018. And YES, I paid taxes at the local government office in 2015 right after buying the boat. Did everything to the book. And now they want proof that I paid the taxes and I can't find the receipt. I'm quite diligent with all my boating paperwork but this one seems to have slipped through the cracks. Does this mean I have to pay the taxes again? If so, what a crock that is. Does the local office keep a record of transactions maybe? I know the exact date the taxes were paid.

Kinda besides the point, no?
-
That's a good idea guys. The next step would be a unit that comes to get you, somehow. Any ideas there?
-
This part was the most terrifying to me. I've seen a downrigger cable pull a guy overboard once. Nobody hurt, but it could have resulted in death.
-
I'm not sure when the price went bananas on the ion series. But I paid $400 at Crappy tire a couple years ago. Agreed that $800 is excessive, hope that's just temporary. There are some hidden benefits of battery augers; no fuel, oil, stuff on your hands, carb kits, etc.
-
Check out electric augers, they're awesome. Though if you can't charge the batteries you're SOL, unless you buy spares.

If the lake is near other waterbodies, just purge it. No sense risking ruining other lakes. I remember gramps telling stories of buying a dozen goldfish from the pet store to use as pike /muskie bait. Times have changed.

Love me some crocs. Saw my dad snowblowing the driveway in -10 weather in crocs once. He loves them too.

29,000 year old fishing equipment found
Sterling replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
Article states they dated organic remains within the rocks. The counter-argument to that is always "but how do you date the rock itself?" and "what if the sample was contaminated?". Answer being they will use a combination of other methods to validate the carbon dating. These scientists aren't dummies, it's unlikely they scraped dirt from the rock and called it a day. They've dedicated an entire lifetime to this type of work, so this sample was carefully and precariously assessed for valid, organic remains. -

Got another? This article describes a variation of 3500 years on a 20,000 year old sample, or 17%. -
I didn't mean physically running the boat into a shoal, rather, inadvertently driving over a sunken island or a shoal that is a few feet above your trolling depth. Saves some grief with cannonballs or lures snagging when trolling just over bottom. We could probably go round and round all day with this... most people who's used these electronics will agree that they bring tremendous value and put more fish in the boat.
-
What I'm saying is that you get to spend more time actually fishing and not driving and setting anchors etc. Same could be said about depthfinders... Buy a Garmin
-
I have to disagree good sir! All of the "auto" features help you catch more fish. Auto-anchor (aka spot-lock) keeps you locked in place without fighting waves, wind, and of course the anchor. It saves you the grief of even carrying an anchor, untangling the rope, etc. That's more time spent fishing and less work. Follow the contour keeps you at the depth you know fish are at. It helps you dodge shoals which you'd otherwise run into. This translates into more fish, and more fishing. Fewer snags, etc. Auto heading keeps you in a straighter line than any driver ever will. While the trolling motor drives for you, you're at the rear checking lines, re-baiting, casting, setting riggers, netting, tidying the boat, scenting plastics, etc etc etc. By the way, my grandfather had the same opinion on the FIRST generation of fish finders.

+1 for Nip... you may be disappointed in Nosbonsing to be honest.
