  1. Gorgeous dog. Probably smart enough to hold a rod too, since he's part collie.
  2. Since we're on the topic of Port Dover, any idea how the fishing is right off the coast? The in-laws have a cottage on Blue Water Parkway (just south of Selkirk). I have a 16ft boat that I could take out, but I wouldn't want to go too far.
  3. Father in law works for the MNR. I can't comment on the public heads we see in the papers, but the guys behind the scenes are fishery encyclopedias. As for me, I work in the mining industry, where we work to destroy the environment and ensure there is nothing left for future generations.
  4. There is a complex science behind fisheries that few people understand. We can pretend that we understand spawning and fish populations, but at the end of the day the MNR has competent people behind these decisions. Yeah, they make stupid decisions once in a while, but they're also being critiqued for everything they do, all day every day.
  5. Whatever you do, don't say yes to any of these trick questions; Is your pin easy to remember? Have you written down your pin or CC number anywhere? Have you shared your CC with a significant other? Answer yes to any of these questions and they will deny you the refund.
  6. So, anyone have any luck? Haven't been out yet unfortunately, hoping to get out there tomorrow, weather permitting.
  7. Long shot, but does the name of this river end with an O?
  8. Not sure if you've done this, but register at anglersatlas.com, they have a lot of free maps of lakes with depth charts and everything. Might help you avoid the 10ft lake trout spots... Otherwise, checking yourself is sometimes the only way to know what's in there. My brother and I fished Dymond Lake for years and brought home monster walleye almost every outing. Strange because this is a small lake. The MNR stopped us one day, and asked where we'd caught the fish. They accused us of lying when we told them the walleye had come out of Dymond. "There's no walleye in Dymond", they said. "We've been stocking that lake with specks for years". We eventually managed to convince them they were wrong. Moral of the story, no source can be considered 100% correct unless you go there yourself and fish the lake.
  9. I can't, for the life of me, find the link to the actual list of boats. Is it just me?
  10. Nipfisher: any idea whereabouts they're fishing? I figure it can't be rocket surgery - find a deepish spot and put riggers at 25-40ft? Rod Caster: I read through the report. Very interesting. The population was introduced in the early 1900s, decimated in 1967, and once again introduced in the late 80s. The population was struggling in the early 90s but I presume it's healthier now. Atlantic Salmon were in lake Ontario but we managed to extirpate them from even that lake. From what I read only Trout Lake has a self-sustained population of landlocked salmon in Ontario. Neat stuff.
  11. Are you sure there are salmon in the lake? I figured the MNR had just used a blanket limit.
  12. I'm pretty new to downrigging but I figure gang trolls and a threaded minnow?
  13. Anybody here have experience fishing for Trout in Trout Lake, North Bay? It's open for 1 week starting Saturday. I can't imagine the trout population is pressured much... so the fishing must be good while it's allowed. I'll probably find a deep spot and fish the thermocline, otherwise I'm at a loss. Any tips?
  14. What's a trip like that run you?
