  1. As much as it makes me have internal convulsions, I have to agree with biguli on this... unfortunately that would mean that we are destined to repeat ills of the past...

Anyone remember why/how the Lake’s Blue Pickeral became close to extinct?

    HH

On a side note, I am thinking about booking a trip to Europe to discuss with the folks who live there, how the land they are on is actually part of my heritage and therefore not theirs! Only REAL difference being I don't have a stained, torn and faded agreement in my back pocket! LOL

But you do, Canada after world war 2 signed Many treatys with Germany , Italy , Japan , etc. lets just go and tell them we didnt really mean it AND NOW WE WANT WHAT IS OURS !!!!!!!!!!

  2. You would think that they had , for better than worse at least an editor that can spell . When speaking on matters of such importance to many you could at least take the time to SPELL CHECK ... But I guess when you print a thing that is pointed towards elected people , what does it matter most members of our goverment probaby cant read anyway ...

  3. I wanna see someone strip 50-75 boots in a single sitting, lol. Where do some of you guys come up with these figures?

Bill I was not stripping eggs , BUT i would clean and fillet all kept fish on my charters . Was not more than 30 - 40 minutes to clean 40-50 fish , 2 times a day 5-7 days a week . I'm not bragging its what it is .. After 2 years when me and a very few found the blue zone in 1979 , I would (people on my charters ) , kill 40-50 steels in a 4 hour charter (5 fish limit and my boat could fish 10 people easy 12 no problem + myself and 2 deckhands ) and do that twice a day , 1981 when running 3 boats 32 . 40 , 47 ,between march 10th to oct 10 we did 240 charters . Was I proud "NOT A CHANCE " but it payed for a 47 foot boat ( I had night mares about the amount of blood on my pants on the deck etc.).. Would I do it now ""NEVER"" .I only take long time customers that know I only allow catch and release out there now So do not think this can not be done .. EASY

  4. Another guess - there is less concern about people snagging Chinooks than other species because Chinooks are stocked as part of a put, grow and take fishery and reproduction isn't a goal?

Guess # 2 , perhaps NOONE IN THIER right mind, would think that any ANGLER (or one that would call himself so), would ever want to catch a black, white fungus laden half dead fish ???? Dont have laws about pokeing your self in the eye with a stick ????? You just assume that people DONT do that ...

  5. The Atlantic program is an utter failure, and has little angler support from my unscientific polling. I've yet to meet an angler who thinks the money spent is worthwhile. I believe it is propped up solely by the MNR and a couple of associations. I am not sure why, but it's a lot of money wasted on someone's pet project.

Believe it or not...there is a growing number of dedicated and very interested groups of us that support the Alantic program and volunteer to work on it...and truly enjoy a dime bright muscle bound Alantic salmon that has just yanked your arm out of place , is into your backing way faster than that BLACK , WHITE FUZZ LADEN CHINY's.....and you find yourself looking up in the trees at a fish that has Tarpon air capabilities....Alantics can get to eight feet above the water line , doing a double twist two somersault with a half gainer back to the H2o.... Chiny's in the lake are fun but in the rivers !!!!!!! Also I miss the 80's when 4 or 5 rods would go off at the same time with COHOS flying out of the water , crossed lines you go there I'm over you , had some great charters than .. This love of chinys over all else ??? Alantics when they get the stocking problems fixed (Dont believe about Alantics , St . Marys dude , go up there when the Alantics are running , you will never feel the same about Steel ever again and will feel ashamed about hooking a river Chiny ) and more Coho stocking will give us the best of all worlds . AND ALANTICS LIKE STEEL DONT DIE AFTER SPAWNING , THEY ARE LIKE THE BATTERY BUNNY THEY COME BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN , once you get them established , maybe if you put your negative energy that you spend on dissing people that are trying to help, into postive energy helping out , these problems with return numbers may be worked out ????

    That's Why.

  7. Birch... i have a few but nothing big... lol.. im hardly organized enogh to tackle one species.. lol

Dont know about that (being organamized ) the pics of the shack that your dad built is better than any I have ever seen . You dont know untill ya try .. Pickereyes wrapped in bacon with birch syrup ....

  8. Hey T.J. did you tap some BIRCH trees ? If you have access to trees give it a go , just remember dont heat over 93 C , or you will scorch the sugars and it takes a load of sap to get syrup , at least twice as much as maple sap , BUT ITS WORTH IT , My grand Ma had a "SPRING TONIC" that was mostly raw birch sap , claimed it cured anything .." LOL " or Maybe it was the large amounts of rum she added ... ?????

  9. T.J. , my grand dad made the best Birch syrup , but birch trees do not have , guess I will call it sap /root pressure as maples do, so the sap does not flow as well , and it takes almost twice as much birch sap than maples sap for the same amount of syrup , less sugars ???, and this my granddad swore by , Birch sap has a different kind of sugar than maple , sucrose - fruitrose ??? one has more than the other cant remember which is which , but the sugars in birth sap burn at a lower temp than maple sap , so ya got to watch the temp or you will end up with your birch syrup tasting scorched ... Hope we have a better year for sap than last ...Food from the forest , the best kind of food ....

  10. Goes to show ya , you may be the uglest fish in the swim , but if you got a big dorsel ya goona get the chicks chaseing ya.Glad to see these fish getting respect , 20 + pound fish , fight like tanks , catch and release they withstand far better than most fish . And you dont need a high priced boat or high priced gear (but if you are so inclined there is lots of expencive carp gear out there , for the gear guys ) a can of corn , a hook ,a weight and allmost any river ,lake or pond and your good to go . I have taken lots of die hard steelies and salmon guys down to Assbridges bay in T.O. and you should see the looks on their faces when they are hooked up to a 20 pound Carp . Keep up the good work about getting fishing for these out there .

  11. Just one more and I dedicate this to JOEY and all the other CANADIAN GIRLS that frequent this site . We Canadian boys would not be what we are without a Canadian girl to bring our children into this world and take care of us ..

She loves the way it feels, driving snowmobiles
And laughing at her dates when they don't know how to skate
She knows her hockey games and the players of the world
She's an all Acandian, northern lady
    An Real Canadian Girl

She's from the Miramichi by the old Atlantic Sea
But like the rolling tides she travels far and wide
So fond of the great outdoors with a glowing heart a twirl
She's an all Acandian, northern lady
    An Real Canadian Girl

She's a real Canadian Girl, a real Canadian Girl
She's an all Acandian, northern lady
    An real Canadian Girl

She'll brave the Yukon nights and dance to the northern lights
Then she's off to ski in the mountains of BC
In the summer she'll play ball
In the winter time she'll curl
She's an all Acandian, northern lady
    An Real Canadian Girl

From the river of Saint John to the old Saskatchewan
Up along the Caribou she'll paddle her canoe
She loves the bears and birds and every little squirrel
She's an all Acandian, northern lady
    An Real Canadian Girl

She's a Real Canadian Girl, a real Canadian Girl
She's an all Acandian, northern lady
    An a Real Canadian Girl

Now when you see her play she'll take yer breath away
Bathing in the sun or swimming just for fun
And if some lucky guy should land this presious pearl

  12. And this one is for Brian and all the other b'ys that come here ...

You might think it's goofy, but the Man in the Moon is a Newfie
And he's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory
He's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory

Cod Fish Dan from Newfoundland, he dreamt he three wishes
And he took Mars and all the stars, and he turned them into big fishes
He said they sky was much to dry, and he made a wavey motion
And the Moon like a boat began to float upon the starry ocean

And You might think it's goofy, but the Man in the Moon is a Newfie
And he's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory
He's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory

One night he strayed to the Milky Way, to cast his nets upon it
He spied the tail of a great big whale, and he harpooned Haley's Comit
He never had a pot for the fish that he cought, so he had to use the Big Dipper
And the sun by Jove was a very good stove, for cooking up Smelts and Kippers

And You might think it's goofy, but the Man in the Moon is a Newfie
And he's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory
He's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory

Now the Northern Lights that seemed to bright like nothing could be grander
Well they're just waves of the moon boat made by the Newfoundland Commander
And don't you sigh and say "Oh my, what gross exaderation"
Cause he'll tell you the dream was true when Cod Fish Dan awakens

And You might think it's goofy, but the Man in the Moon is a Newfie
And he's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory
He's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory

You might think it's goofy, but the Man in the Moon is a Newfie
And he's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory
He's sailin' on to glory, away in the golden dory

  13. Goodbye Jim & Jackie, goodbye John & May
We hate to see you leaving, bound for the USA
But if you don't believe your country should come before yourself
Ya can better serve your country, by living somewhere else

I know the times are changing, factories closing down
But if you stay and help us, we can turn these things around
But if you don't believe your country should come before yourself
Ya can better serve your country, by living somewhere else

And while our politicians, divde our presious land
We speak in French & English, but they still don't understand
If you don't believe your country should come before yourself
Ya can better serve your country, by living somewhere else

In a land that's short on heros, they trade our jobs away
And we don't need no zeros to come and help us save the day
So if you don't believe your country should come before yourself
Ya can better serve your country, by living somewhere else

And if you should find your heaven, where stars & stripes are flown
You'll learn to stand more proudly, than you ever stood back home
And they'll tell you that your country, must come before yourself
Or you'll have to serve your country by living somewhere else

So goodbye Jim & Jackie, goodbye John & May
We hope that you'll be happy, living in the USA
Cause if you don't believe your country should come before yourself
Ya can better serve your country, by living somewhere else

If you don't believe your country should come before yourself
Ya can better serve your country, by living somewhere else

A better Canadian was never born , spent many nights at the horse shoe watching him stomp thu boards singing songs of CANADA ,

    RIP TOM ,

  14. When I was growing up , NO MEAT ON FRI. , so salt cod , smelts , fresh cod when my mother could get it , halibut , kippers , even pickled herring , were on the menu Fri. As I got older and when fresh fish and all kinds of seafood , with the new fast transport methods came available from all over , fish (seafood),the ones I catch and the ones I can buy at St lawerance market or Kensinton , became more and more the go to food in my house , All 4 of my children love fish . We still eat our share of vension , moose , duck , and geese , with wild turkey on the menu if me or one of my sons gets lucky . And like I said a great big beef T-bone now and than but red meat bought from the gocery store I find just does not do it for me anymore . Char up some thick tuna steaks (agressively cook ) on the barbe keeping them red in the middle , doesn't get any better ..
